Located in a beautiful historic house in the heart of the Jewish Quarter, the restaurant is full of character. Whitewashed walls, charming dining rooms, Andalusian details everywhere, and a rooftop terrace that makes you want to linger a little longer over lunch. The menu celebrates Córdoba's culinary traditions while adding a few contemporary touches. But the real gem is actually next door. The same owners and the same kitchen run a beautiful, light-filled patio where you can order many of the restaurant's dishes in tapa format. For me, that's the move. Instead of committing to one or two larger plates, you get to explore much more of the menu while sitting among flowers, sunshine, and the kind of atmosphere that makes Andalucía so easy to fall in love with. If you visit Córdoba, don't miss the salmorejo. Casa Pepe prepares an exceptional version: thick, velvety, and intensely flavorful, made with tomato, bread, garlic, and excellent olive oil, then topped with jamón serrano. Unlike gazpacho, which is lighter and more diluted, salmorejo is rich, creamy, and concentrated, with tomato and olive oil taking center stage. Simple food, perfectly executed. I also fell in love with the mazamorra cordobesa. Often considered the ancestor of salmorejo, this ancient almond-based cold soup dates back to the culinary traditions of Al-Andalus, before tomatoes even arrived in Europe. Creamy, refreshing, slightly nutty, and completely unique, it's one of those dishes that instantly connects you to the history of the place. The crispy pig's ear was delightfully rich and rabo de toro was nice - nothing special but a good slow-cooked, tender meat. If you're visiting Córdoba, Casa Pepe is absolutely worth the stop. But if you can grab a table at the restaurant for a nice formal dinner or a place in the patio next door and work your way through the menu tapas-style, you'll probably have an even better experience.

My friend had a beer and then we shared small bags of breadsticks. We shared the oxtail paella which was the best and the only one I have ever had, and basically, it was almost tempting me to order another dish of it. I chose to skip it and go to dessert, having a brownie with vanilla ice cream and another vodka tonic. My friend took a shot at this flat pumpkin pie with an actual top on it. Everything was perfect there and I will definitely come back if I ever get the chance to return to Cordoba. I highly recommend stopping here and letting the kitchen staff take good care of you.

It was light, crispy on the outside and soft and moist on the inside and it was a bit hot too, having come immediately from the fryer to our table and bitten into immediately. (English majors - go!!) It's coated with a light batter and they drizzled some sweet balsamic vinegar on top with sesame seeds. I suppose I should have had some dry vino to pair with this appetizer but it was a bit too early for me. The non-complimentary bread (they unilaterally decide to serve it) was a little dry but I ate most of it, dipping it in some olive oil with more of that balsamic vinegar. Once inside, the atmosphere was very pleasant, having been seated in a large, open atrium with ornate carved stone walls and doorways. We asked for a large bottle of sparkling water but were told that they only had small bottles at €2.50 a pop. Small bottles mean more profit for the business but are inconvenient and more expensive for customers. We started with a bottle of the Speak of Silence /Extremadura, a dark red wine made with Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Tempranillo grapes. At €22 it was a decent value (average price = €19) with a 4.1 / 5.0 rating on Vivino and rated one of the top 2% of wines in the world. It was good, but I am not sure about the top 2% claim. We ordered and shared several dishes, so I will elaborate here: - Mixed Salad with Tomato Vinaigrette (€6.10): Nothing special, just an overpriced salad - Cordoban Salmorejo (€5.10): A local cold tomato soup emulsified with olive oil, Iberian ham, and egg, it probably would have been better warm or hot. It was tasty, but different, not something I would order again. - Cordoban Flamenquin (€14.75): Another local dish, pork loin stuffed with ham, breaded, and fried. It was good but a bit dry so I dribbled some sauce from the oxtail on top. It would have been better with an accompanying sauce, but then it would not be Cordoban. - Cordoba-style Oxtail (€13.95): Two small knuckles with barely any meat and eight small french fries scattered on top. The sauce was good and what meat that was there tender, but €13.95 for four or five mouthfuls? Definitely NOT a TravelValue. - Solomillo Boletus (€19.25): Iberian pork tenderloin topped with a mushroom sauce, it was delicious, but €20 seems a tad high for a few pieces of pork and a smattering of fries.
