Soggy lettuce... what is this liquid?
Shandell M.

The staff are all super nice. The restaurant is clean and authentically Mexican. The food was terrible. I got 4 fish tacos and 4 chicken tacos and it was horrible. Chicken tacos had absolutely no flavor and fish tacos were extremely soggy. Again I ordered 8 tacos and only received a pinch of lettuce, pico and sour cream. The lettuce was soggy and wet and just gross.

Nothing to write home about... My wife and I just moved to the area and wanted to find a good Mexican restaurant that was more authentic versus a chain restaurant. We stumbled upon Los Aztecas and wanted to give it a shot, but that was a mistake. Location: The restaurant is located in a busy shopping center with ample parking. The inside is older and could use some updating, but very typical for a Mexican restaurant. Food: The food was just ok, nothing special. I got the tacos, which came out in less than 2 minutes after ordering. The chips and salsa were good with the perfect amount of salt. I'm assuming it's due to Covid, but I was given plastic silverware and my food was delivered in a metal pan - not really what I expected though. Other observations: the restaurant was completely empty, but a lot of the employees used the first couple of booths to hang out in, which to me doesn't seem like a great business model. There were also two kids running around the restaurant, which to me was extremely unprofessional as this place is very small. I wish we would have read the reviews prior to eating at this restaurant. We will not be returning or recommending this restaurant. I truly hope the owners read these reviews from all of their customers and take action - you have a gold mine if you can just fix a few issues.

Steak fajitas

Stopped in while we were out shopping for lunch. First thing you notice are the privacy booths. They make it quite comfortable to have a conversation. We ordered the Enchiladas Rancheros and the steak fajitas. Both were very good, probably the best I've had since I left Southern California. I would definitely recommend here for a more authentic fare.

The Vallarta Special- shrimp, fish, and mild rice. Served with a garden salad, along with ranch dressing.

Los Aztecas has to be one of Pottstown's secrets with regard to restaurant eating. Considering that it is surrounded my fast food locations & Walmart (as well as having current construction around it), this venue is almost one that you can pass right by it. The decor is fairly standard for a Hispanic restaurant, and very clean. You'll be served with homemade chips that are light to the touch, and mild salsa. Only one choice of salsa here, not several. No cervezas (beer) or other alchohol here, which is kind of a bummer. I ordered the Vallarta Special, which is an assortment of shrimp, fish, & rice. It is served with a side if garden salad and ranch dressing. If I had the choice to change dressing, it would be with anything but the ranch. The ranch just wasn't good on this night, which spoiled the garden salad. The remaining entree portion certainly made up for it, given that I couldn't finish it. Don't let the medium-sized portion fool you- the Vallarta Special is certainly filling! Its definitely worth the nourishment, of which I think is the best overall value that Los Aztecas has to offer. Customer service is really good here, so be sure to tip well. The food was so good that you'll more than likely skip breakfast.

Enchiladas aztecas!

Having been at the Hill school for 4 weeks, I thought the food chain started and ended with Dunkin Donuts, but thankfully I found Los Aztecas! Hidden next to a buffet in a strip mall with Walmart, this ray of sunshine will fill your soul with fresh guacamole and fresh made tortillas! As soon as we walked in, we knew this place was going to be great bc it was a small restaurant that was family owned...since the young man behind the counter looked 16. We were fortunate enough to sit by the kitchen where orders were being given in spanish and you could hear the oil popping. After spending a number of minutes trying to decide on the perfect entree and eating a full basket of tortilla chips smothered in salsa....I opted for the Enchiladas Aztecas. As they arrived pipping hot, topped with salsa verde, sliced avocados and sour cream drizzle....I knew they were the right choice. Right from the first bite, I knew this was one of the best Mexican meals I have had. The chicken inside the enchiladas was smothered in cheese and well seasoned. It was the perfect combination of savory and crunchy with the lettuce sliced on top. I sadly did not know it was BYOB, or else a few margaritas would've been the perfect ending to my meal. If ever in Pottstown, hit up the strip mall for some good grub!

You're not quite sure... but there's just something about this charming single room establishment that rings a bell ... Just something. Perhaps it's the colorful ornamentations that catch your eye... Perhaps. But even more to the point is the setup of the room itself - the cozy arrangement of booths and tables - that feels so warm, comfortable, pristine... special. Seldom have I been so taken with a restaurant... and even before being seated. Pleasant, knowledgeable service is another plus. However, it is ultimately the outstanding quality and preparation of authentic Mexican cuisine that truly sets this establishment apart. The menu here is quite extensive - including desserts and kids' meals - with all the usual South of the Border suspects present and accounted for. Your gastronomic journey begins with Sides & Starters and then moves on through such familiar rubrics as Tacos... Salads... Burgers, Tortas, Flautas... Burritos & Quesadillas, and House Plates. Trust me, plenty of choices to keep you happy. However, you would do well be bear in mind that portion sizes here are more than generous, occasionally bordering on the humongous... like the chimichanga, for instance (pictured). Since at the outset you will probably be ingesting a significant amount of complimentary house-made chips & salsa, and also, perhaps, planning to finish up with dessert, discretion may, indeed, be the better part of valor. In other words, skip the starters, saving yourself a few bucks in the process, and head straight for the main course. Trust me on this... Unless you just happen to possess the appetite of a starving yak, you will, undoubtedly, still end up toting home a doggie bag. One additional thought... As I noted above, the quality of the cuisine here is consistently first-rate. But any restaurant, no matter how excellent in scope and highly regarded it may be, is still - in contrast to all its culinary pluses - somehow capable of concocting a dish that is destined to become its singular point of weakness, its "Achilles heel" so to speak. In the case of Los Osorio, this turned out to be one of their highly-touted "House Plates": Grilled Salmon. There was certainly nothing amiss with the accompaniments, as the rather dashing combo of pico de gallo and freshly cut mango added its own unique exotic flavor to the festivities. As did the filet's irresistible orange zest glaze. Unfortunately, the problem was the salmon filet itself. Pale of color and tasteless, it had fallen victim to finny fare's most nefarious saboteur... overcooking. And not just a touch overdone either. No, the dense dry flesh told the story, and it was not a pretty one. A steak knife would have come in handy. Achilles heel notwithstanding, however, Los Osorio still has a great deal to offer and is, in my opinion, definitely worthy of a visit. And should you decide to pay a call, my piece of advice is relatively simple... Stick with the more traditional Mexican fare - tacos, burritos, quesadillas, tamales, fajitas, enchiladas, etc. - and you certainly can't go wrong. But I would also suggest that you leave room for dessert. The sweet endings here are quite diverse and run the gamut from South of the Border favorites - Trés Leches, Churros filled with strawberry, apple, or caramel; Sopapillas served with vanilla ice cream powdered sugar, strawberries and side of caramel or chocolate sauce - to more traditional options such as Cheesecake and Triple Chocolate Cake. My own personal recommendations represent a bit of both worlds... If you enjoy ice cream in all its various forms and permutations, for example, then I would go straight for the luscious Fried Ice Cream (pictured on left). Garnished with chocolate & caramel sauces, whipped cream, and cherry crown, this eminently shareable dessert is guaranteed to satisfy those creamy cravings. On the other hand, if you're a tad more adventurous of palate, the Cheesecake Taco (pictured on right) also has a great deal to offer. Homemade lemon cheesecake is nestled inside a cinnamon & sugar dusted flour tortilla, dotted with strawberries, blueberries, chocolate chips, sprinkled with powdered sugar, and drizzled with chocolate sauce. The result is simply not to be missed. If you enjoy authentic Mexican cuisine, as I mentioned above, Los Osorio is definitely worth a visit... Just don't forget to BYOB.

After a long day in the heat with outdoor chores, we knew we needed food but had little motivation for anything. We mustered up the energy to grab a quick early bite last Saturday. We arrived at El Guacamole at 5:30pm and were self sat, to the small two-seater in the back. This restaurant is teensy 8-10 tables. Our waitress was smiley and kind. And patient, because I was confusing her on my asking for just cups with ice. We had our bevy bag for their BYOB, so wanted to cool our seltzers down. Lots of guacs to their namesake- so we decided to try the trio. We sampled the tropical, cheese and habanero. They were all delicious. Clean, chunky, bright. Tropical was the fav. (As we go on- FRESH is the theme here.) My husband, again being adventurous ordered the Mojarra à la Diabla and I the Jarocho Shrimp Cocktail. The Diabla sauce was asked on the side. And we are sooooo happy for that. Not just because if it was all over the fish, it would've been too hot for my husband- No. This sauce was Incredible!!! For me- perfect spice level. Spicy, a bit smokey, had kick but a mellow onion base. I kid you not- I had this sauce on everything for 3 days later (on eggs, salmon and potatoes). I die for this sauce! The fish was crispy, a tad dry but tasty. The sides were good and rice was not sticky. My Jaroocho was incredible! Soooooo fresh. It was exactly what I wanted to eat. It tasted like a gazpacho and shrimp ceviche made a beautiful family but with chunkier cucumber, tomatoes and onions. The tomato sauce was light but rich. I took leftovers and it undoubtedly even tasted better the next day. Go to El Guacamole and get anything with their bright, beautiful avocados. Well anything at all, because I am sure every dish must be wonderful. We can't wait to come back and try more!! Bravo!
