Very well kept course. Practice putting greens are well kept. All fairways are very well kept. No dirt in fairway areas, all grass (except where players don't replace or seed divots) Tees are well kept. Very beautiful course. Pro shop has very cold beer in a freezer. Ice cold beer! Bar area is nice, a very relaxing place to have a beer after a crappy game. read more

The front nine is flat, straight and a little boring. The back nine is much more interesting with a few really challenging holes. The fairways are kind of chewed up and the greens are in so, so condition. The staff was really nice and accomodating. read more

It's my home course. Great price for twilight rates with cart. They've done so many upgrades to the course in the past 2 years. As for the course difficulty, I would say it's easier than Rio Hondo golf course down the street. read more

Played in a new Grand Opening shotgun tournament April 19, 2014. I was expecting the usual muni experience. This course is totally awesome. Greens were smooth - like new condition. Every hole was like this. #17 was totally awesome. Fairways were great. Rough was not too penal. Teeboxes were pretty good. There was good sand in the bunkers too. Even the practice putting green was great. Staff was super excellent. Bar area is great. 1st time I ever played this course. OK - it was a grand re-Opening. I will be back to play & see if the conditions remain as excellent as they were this past Sunday. If they are - this will become my new home course. It was that good. read more

Nice county course, well maintained, very good staff in the clubhouse, around the course, and in the restaurant and bar. I enjoyed the golf, the snacks, food and bar. It is a short challenging par 71. It has a couple fun par 3s that are a challenge with water or sand. The rough is challenging as it will grab your club. The greens are in great shape, and all are a challenge. It was a long day, but we were in a tournament, but I still feel like the course moves slowly when crowded. read more

I like this course because the pace is pretty good, the kitchen serves a yummy club sandwich and fries, the bartender has dilled eggs and pickles that are spicy. The course will wear you out with the 4's and 5's. The trees can be your enemy if your not careful. Good times read more

This last time I played Los Amigos I almost wanted to ask for my money back. This course was in the worse shape I have ever seen. It was like the grounds crew went on a weeks vacation. Greens were long and beat all to hell. Tee boxes weren't up kept and the fairways were dead. It's almost like they said F it and let the course go to hell!! read more

This is the worst golf course i have ever had the displeasure of playing. A buddy and me were looking forward to trying a new course so we drove down from LA to check this place out. It took us 50 minutes to reach the 3rd hole (we had a booked tee time). When we got to the 3rd hole there were 5 groups on the hole, some with 5 player groups. Feeling defeated we called the club house from the hole and asked if we could get a refund to which they responded with "you can not get a refund after you have teed off." We almost left anyway but decided to see what happened though 9 holes. Our tee time was 12:27 and we only finished 16 holes by 5:15. We were told by the lovely gentleman we were teamed up with that this course is always like this. Clearly this is a money grab course. There were 3 or more groups on each hole the entire day. Seriously over booked and no fucks given. Do not waste your day here. There are many more options in the area. Choose ANY other course. I am not unaccustomed to waiting on a course but this was unacceptable. Greens are pitted out but it is a open course. The holes are also dangerously close meaning that due to the amount of groups waiting to tee off per hole, you are sometimes waiting in the direct line of people hitting the fairway on the prior hole. The course is in the worst condition this year. All greens but #17 were in terrible shape. 17 was great since it is rarely hit from the tee. Fairways were fair at best. Practice greens still closed. I was looking for a venue to have my upcoming wedding I was told by many references that Los Amigos Golf Course had one of the best customer service and beautiful venue. I called to schedule an appointment to view the venue and a woman by the name of Stephanie answered. From the beginning of the call she had the worst attitude, sounded annoyed by my questions not pleasant at all, and very unprofessional!!! You would think your looking for a place where you and your guest will feel welcome but after speaking with her i would prefer having my wedding elsewhere. Played a round with my buddies because we couldn't get tee times anywhere else. Never played here before and neither did the person in our foursome that made the tee time. This course is a par-70 and isn't that bad except for the brown grass that covers the majority of the course and the dried up lake. Maybe because it's summer or, maybe because it is a city owned course and they are trying to conserve water. This course is visually non-aesthetic, the pro shop basically is good for tees, the snack bar service is so-so. The green fees are definitely on the higher side for what they offer. I would recommend this course to anyone that can't get tee times anywhere else and you are just dying to get on the course. Personally, I will not go back to this course. read more

Had my wedding here on 9/29/17. I booked this venue with Brenda because they had a pretty outdoor setting and were 20% less expensive than some other competiting venues. She also offered me a better deal on the ceremony if i paid and booked by the end of the month. Unfortunately the day of, they were very unorganized and didnt really hold up their end of the bargin. For Example....We cut the cake at 8:15pm (per our timeline), the cake wasnt served until after 9:30pm (We had 85 people max which wasnt huge). In fact it wasnt served.....It was left out on open tables in the middle of the walk way for people to grab a piece themselves. The bridal suite also wasn't prepared the day of as planned. We were told there would be water, champagne and a light snack when we arrived to get dressed as we'd probably be starving, however when we arrived, the bridal suite was empty. Not to mention they said we couldn't use the bridal suite all day as they said they arent/werent responsible if anything gets lost of stolen in the bridal room as its open to the golfers using the facility during the day. The bridal suite also only has a small portable AC unit....Meaning if its summer and gets warm, any more than 5 people in the room will get warm. Also, they allowed me to bring in a fruit tray (bionicos) for our late taco night snack at 9pm which was cool, but then they failed to put it out with the tacos because the wait staff thought it was for the wedding the following day. Yolanda and Frank dropped the ball on that. That was disappointing....$75 down the drain on wasted/non eaten fruit. Also, When we were taking portraits with the photographers they said we couldnt use the entire golf course as there was a tournament going on and we would interrupt there play time. So we got limited to taking photos in 2 spots. We spent $9,000 total on this venue (90 adults paid for) and can only take pre ceremony photos in 2 spots the day of?? WTF? PROS: Pretty outside Venue - Garden Site and Lakeside Site Affordable (for the most part, about $60 a person plus tax & 19% service charge) Food- Decent, but not the best, not the worst. Steak was way dry and hard to chew. They allowed outside/ Non Insured Vendors for use. (good and bad i guess since they dont care if they are insured or not) or if your uncle himself sets up the wedding for you lol Ceremony started on time Security guys were nice and helpful. I dont know if they were actually security as they acted almost like wait staff and drove us around on the golf cart for photos. Cake was really yummy (i took the extra 2 tiers home, since hardly anyone got any as it wasnt served on time) - Rossmoor Pastries is the vendor who supplied it Late night taco bar had Good Tacos. We paid, the venue supplied them, but couldnt take home left overs due to health code reasons. CONS: Not Organized Wait staff put other vendors items into my boxed belongings. Brenda the event director mentioned they get items stolen all the time. I dont know if people actually steal the items or their wait staff doesn't care and puts other peoples items into other people boxes that dont belong to them. Like they arent paying attention to what they are doing. They just clear everything off the tables to be done with it. Our night, Frank was the banquet lead and he admitted to forgetting about our bionicos tray. Was told bar drinks would be $6-8 each, but our guests were charged $6 for beers and $11-12 for cocktails instead. I got multiple complaints They kept saying they weren't responsible for lost or stolen items that belong to us. They told us this like 10 times. Didn't have free range and use of the entire golf course for pictures/photos because of the golf tournament going on. Multi use facility (they will have up to 4 events going on at any one time, so please know your not their sole focus) Ordered coconut shrimp as one of my appetizers during cocktail hr, but instead got spinach spanakopitas instead. Yolanda was in charge that night. Not sure what happened. Bar was very unorganized and not fully ready to go by cocktail hr start time. Had multiple complaints. Huge mix up with our signature drinks and paid bar tab. Not to mention Brenda said she would put cute chalkboards out specifying our drinks, but never did. Not to mention, our drinks were mules and watermelon margaritas. I SUPPLIED the ginger beer and watermelon syrup myself!!! Did i get any left overs back? NO Did i receive a watermelon margarita..NO. They dont provide a day of coordinator (very important, and usually much needed) Dont provide a cake stand for your cake. They said there last one was stolen. They said i could rent one elsewhere for $50 if i really wanted it. Chivarly chairs they have can only be used inside their ballroom. They dont allow them outside. Recommended their DJ Johnny Torres, but he didnt deliver fully the day of. He lost our playlist and had to leave 30 mins early. Not the venues fault, but they sure did recommend him highly read more

This County operated course lacks maintenance! There are 2 courses in downey. This place and Rio Hondo. The difference... this place is operated by the county of LA where Rio Hondo is operated by the city of Downey. The difference is night and day. Los Amigos (The Friends) is located next to a juvenile facility. So while you are playing golf you will here the delinquents exercising and being visited. But in seriousness, the course is in bad shape. Fairways are full of divots, roughs are bare and greens are full of divots and bumps. To play this course is pretty easy. Very good for beginners but on weekends it can get pricey. As a downey resident, I would rather play at Rio Hondo and get a resident discount. read more

Had my daughter's quinceañera in June 2019. Customer service was great! Food was really good! Only bad thing was, we were planing to get a live band they recommended us not to due to ppl complaining so we didn't. We got a DJ, during dinner time we had really low music we were dealing with the security guards they wanted us to lower the music like at 7pm lol. We were dealing with the police back and forth, very uncomfortable not to be able to enjoy your daughters party when you paid over 10k. If you decide to use any of the outside venues keep this in mind. Other than that great place. read more

I love seniors but the course is about 90% of them and majority of them walk it w a hand cart. On one occasion, a group of seniors tried to cut in front of us at the tee box. The starter had to come out and reorder ppl (Possible bad apple). Both times, waited 15 min at the 16th hole for 3 groups in front of us. Ruined the entire rest of play. Result- i'd like to play early morning and jam thru in 4 hrs if possible. But never playing here past 9 am. read more

Los Amigos is a great local course. It's a little bit on the short side, but it still has a couple of challenging holes. It is well maintained and they put fresh, light sand a couple of years ago in the bunkers. Recently, they have continued their improvements on greens and tee boxes as a few holes are under construction. After your round, the food is well priced and better than average. The bartender Roberto is a champ and if Arnie is in the bar, ask to hear the Arnie song! All around a great place. read more

Went to get a quote the person who helped us was really nice and tried to help but Brenda did not let her give us a more affordable price. I have heard r ally bad reviews about the food but still wanted to give them a chance. The prices are astronomical $14,000 for 200 people chicken option. This is about the Mother's Day Brunch: for the cost of this brunch $35, I would have expected more than one glass of "bottomless" mimosas. During our brunch, we had to ask 3 times in the span of about an hour for a second glass of mimosas. Every time we asked, the reply was either "we already brought them out" or "oh, did you want more?" Why would we ask if we didn't want more? The kick in the butt was when an employees family was sat next to us and the service for them was off the chain! They got served 3 separate times in the span of an hour. The food was mediocre at best. The service was horrible. The waitresses were rude and unprofessional. This was a "slap in the face" service. I wish I'd have taken mom somewhere else read more

I just had my sons baptism this Saturday 06/08/2019 and it was amazing. Stephanie was so nice, very helpful, and very attentive. It was such a pleasure working with stephanie she made the whole process go by smoothly. The food was amazing all my guest loved it. The staff was so helpful and made sure all our guests were served at the same time. They were also so quick to clean up the tables so there was no mess. I ended up talking to the cops on my wedding day! Do not get married there! All the negative reviews are true on this golf course!! They promise you the world and end up giving you the minimal. Yolanda and Brenda blamed each other for not having my linen. They kept telling me that they had lost their vendor and as soon as they got a new one they will let me know. Needless to say I had to purchase my own! -Outside guest from another party ended up at the bar drinking off our tab! -My husband had to find silverware to cut our cake! -They never served the toast! -pointless to have an itinerary they won't follow it -Security is a joke -Yolanda promised to be during a good portion of the reception. FAIL! -ONLY TIME I SAW YOLANDA WAS TO TELL ME THEY NEEDED TO CHARGE ME FOR EXTRA PLATES. -Yolanda talks shit about the General Manager behind his back. Nice team work. -General manager can careless about the thousands you spent. He didn't rectify anything after we told him about the wedding issues. -My bridesmaids had to remove the serving trays from the dance floor because the servers are lazy and all they want is the service charges on their paychecks -the cops came up to me ( I guess because I was in my wedding g dress) and questioned me if I had a permit for my party. I would NOT recommend Los Amigos Golf Course for a wedding ceremony. I hate to say this because I had a good experience up until the wedding rehearsal. Below I have detailed the good and bad experience I had while working with Los Amigos Golf Course for my wedding. Good: The Lakeside site is gorgeous. Not many floral arrangements are needed as the greenery speaks for itself. They also provide chairs, a table, and a runner for the ceremony which also made the ceremony decor easier on our end. Parking is also decent. Bad: The "coordinator" they provided for our ceremony was not even present on the day we scheduled our rehearsal. In addition, the sprinklers were on at the time we were supposed to be rehearsing. We could not even rehearse in the area we reserved! Bad: On the day of the wedding, we gave the coordinator simple instructions on when to play the music. She may have played the music, but the audio system barely worked! I spent months trying to come up with the perfect music for our wedding ceremony and no one could hear it! Also, the microphone didn't even work, so some people in the back of the audience barely heard any of our vows. Bad: The coordinator was no where to be found at the end of the ceremony. Bad: The agreement we signed said we could use the course for an hour after the ceremony to take pictures. However, when we started to roam the coarse to take pictures, some manager told us we could only use the wedding site because they didn't want to be liable if one of us was hit by a golf ball. I understand his concern, however, we were told in our contract that we could use the course for pictures. For that reason, we were not able to use the bridge, actually lake, some of the trees, and other beautiful photo opps this course has to offer. The guests said the reception was beautiful. However, when you invest a few thousand dollars into a wedding and the people you pay do not deliver what was expected, it becomes personal. I am sorry Los Amigos Golf Course, but I will not be using your services again. I am glad we held our reception elsewhere. read more

Los Amigos is clawing it's way back. The last time I played there was over a year ago, and my rating then, would have been 1 star. Only for the reason of the condition of the golf course. Not for some stupid reason, like gnats. It is a golf course, with grass and water. There will be bugs. Ara C. (who posted 2 stars on 12/6/12). You need to stay indoors, and never leave the safety of your own home. Anyhow, moving on to more important matters... A year ago, the greens were in horrible shape. Aside from 5 greens being close to sickness, but back then, all the "greens" were a shorter version of the fairway. Not anymore. The condition of Los Amigos is on the way of completing a 180 degree turn in terms of golf course condition. The greens are in great shape, compared to a year ago. The fairways are coming back and the bunkers are in decent condition. Aside from the course, the pro shop has been completely remodeled and looks like an actual pro shop now instead of a 99 cent store. The fencing on the driving range has been repaired and there is still the option of choosing between grass or mat on the range. I normally walk, and I noticed the carts are new instead of the previous death traps they used to rent to patrons. And the fresh grill at the turn was a nice touch and a great change of pace. Most places only offer pre-made sandwiches or hot dogs, but with a fresh food stand, I had a tasty cheese burger with all the fixings made right there on the spot. When I played there (2/17/13), there was still some renovations still in process. Which tells me that whoever is investing in the property, is serious in improving the course. I'm very glad to see that. Keep up the good work! I remember saying a year ago to my friends, the one thing Los Amigos has going for it, is potential. It has the potential to be a great course, like Rio Hondo, which is down the street. I belong to the Men's Club at Rio and while Rio is my home course, I am now willing to call Los Amigos my alternative home course. My suggestions for further improvements: A beverage cart on course would be nice. Cut the greens a little shorter and firm them up a bit. Make 9 a short par 4. Let the rough grow a little longer. I will not disclose any information on the type of event I held here, since I am an event planner/designer and some of my clients love this location regardless of some unfortunate factors. My family along with some of my clients have had events and weddings here which I have coordinated. Withput a doubt, this place has a beautiful outdoor scenery for outdoor events. However, my reason for giving them a one star are not because of the food, the waiters/waitresses/ bar-tender or the rest of the crew that were assigned to help my personal event. Which I must say they were all friendly and amazing people. Unfortunately I cannot say the same about their absolutely tacky, lacking professionalism, and excuse for a manager named Brenda. She is without a doubt an unprofessional and horrible individual with a condescending attitude towards vendors, their own employees, and their clients. I like to treat all of my vendors, florists, entertainers, as well as other people working for my events to be respected equally disregarding their labor position. Furthermore, on the day of my event which took place 2 years ago now, their were multiple factors I did not like. Brenda closing the office door in my face when I came along with family to pay fully for the venue was for sure one of the ones I still remember to this day. Another was one of their horrible security guards that took pride in being rude to my guests that day. Had I been told by my guests about this the day of the event and not months later, I would most definitely have had him removed. I do not remember his name, but please make sure to always ask about who will be guarding the entrance of your event, since they are indeed rude and unprofessional. Having that said, if hosting an event here, feel free to ask for anyone but Brenda to be part of the booking process of your event. She will make you question how people become so bitter and without class. read more

Should never take 5 hrs and 20 mins to get through a round of golf as a threesome. Especially on that easy of a course. Course was ok and it actually wasn't all that busy. Clubhouse just jammed tee times with fivesomes and did not stick to a schedule. Just threw random golfers together in massive groups to nonexistent tee times. The second hole had 5 groups on at once (par 4 - one on green, one on fairway and three waiting to tee off). Not going back there. read more

New ownership. Course is really looking good. Spent time and money to groom it, trimming trees, new cement cart paths, new fairway bunkers with real sand. They are even turning 9 into a par 4. Rate of play is about average, although there was one 5 1/2+ hr. round, but most of the time its about 4 1/2 - 5 hrs. read more

Tons of upgrades going on here lately. This a great place to practice at, since it has a putting green, chipping green, and driving range. It is becoming a better value daily as the improvements come in. The only change lately that is a negative is that they only let you hit off mats now at the range, whereas last year you could hit off mats or grass. read more

I had my wedding reception at Los Amigos Golf Course in November of 2014. The coordinator Yolanda was very friendly and accommodating during the planning process. On the day of the reception, besides some minor hiccups with the servers, everything went well. I love the atmosphere and all my guests had a blast. EFFFFF THIS PLACE! NEGATIVE STARS. DON'T GET MARRIED HERE! I recently got married here. I trusted Yolanda to be my "wedding coordinator", as she said she would be, and it was a horrible awful mistake. She was nowhere to be found most of the time and when I confronted her about it later, she said she was there the whole time, until 10pm, LIAR! I paid for security that were nowhere to be found, the indoor wedding next door (I was in the garden) ran out of alcohol and their guest were stealing mine. I found out much later in the night. Turns out the bartender KNEW they weren't from my wedding and still served them. The dinner was served much later than it should have been, I was promised extension cords that were never delivered, the staff destroyed my cake after I asked them to "save the top", wine I bought was never re-filled (I ended up taking most of it home), my guests nor I were taken care of. I also got late night tacos that were scheduled for 10:30 and not served until 11 and stopped at 11:45. The staff also tried to throw away some of my centerpieces, and no one was around when we wanted to set up a card table, oh, and Yolanda thought it was okay to bring my cake out for display WRAPPED IN SERAN WRAP! How embarrassing! Yolanda AND Brenda denied being late, not around and accepted no responsibility for any of those things, they were supposed to "check cameras" and were going to refund me money for services they did not provide or breach of contract, which was NEVER DONE. All I heard was excuses. I paid $13,500 to get married here, but apparently it wasn't enough for me to have their attention. They also "didn't have time" to set up details, like the FREAKING FOOD with me until the Saturday before, and apparently I was supposed to be sent a formal invitation to the food tasting. The only reason I went was because I had written the date down in my planner 4 months prior. Moral of the story, the wedding coordinators here are effing awful. read more
