Finally an affordable and delicious spot to grab some authentic food! We tried the carne asada tacos, burrito, quesadilla, and birria. Everything was phenomenal!

I prefer the al pastor to the carne asada, it was just so much more tender and flavorful. It's great they offer outdoor seating so more people can fit, but the indoor table near the back door was so cold from the wind. The atmosphere felt like a lot of locals bringing around their tourist friends (but tbh that was me too!)

Legendary - oh that quesadilla!!…read more If you are looking for an authentic late-night bite in San Francisco, El Farolito is an absolute must-visit institution. The fresh food here hits the spot every single time, serving up massive portions that never skimp on flavor, and honestly, it is so much better than La Taqueria down the street. While most people rave about the burritos, the absolute star of the show for me is their amazing quesadilla--perfectly cheesy, packed with high-quality meats, and grilled to absolute perfection. The only real downside to this gritty, no-frills spot is the deplorable bathroom situation, which is definitely best avoided if you can help it. But if you can look past the sketchy restroom, the incredible, affordable food easily beats out the competition nearby and makes it entirely worth the trip. * Tip: This place gets very busy and can have very long lines, especially during the late-night rush, so try to go during off-peak hours or just be prepared to wait a bit for your food! Thanks

The food is good, and it's clear that people will fall in line for it. I don't mind going back. Chips: It's free, and it's chips w/ salsa. Enjoy it. Birria Taco: I think a lot of restaurants are starting to understand how birria is made, so I'm noticing that the average quality is going up. While the taste profile of the meat and the consommé are above average for this place, I feel that the birria that I eat is beginning to taste the same. Kudos on the size; some spots skimp on the size. Lengua Super Burrito: I think this is priced very well for a large burrito. I am a fan of their lengua, and I'm also happy to report that I didn't feel cheated with the lengua portion size inside the burrito. I tried their asasda, and it was bad, so I'm very happy that the lengua was very good. Service: You order, you pay, you wait for the food to arrive. Nothing crazy. Ambiance: It's a smaller corner spot, so you really gotta get lucky with the seating. The line can get crazy at certain hours of the day, so it's gonna be hard to sit and stay a while. I'd just eat here and move on.

No. Can I explain it after eating one? Also no. Whatever was happening inside that tortilla was incredible. Juicy, packed with flavor, and immediately more important than anything else we had planned. My wife could've said "the bridge is gone" and I would've needed to finish chewing before asking which one. I'd been living in the South for a few years and hadn't had Mexican food this good in a while. First bite had me looking around the room for someone to hold accountable for the last several years. Please excuse the picture. A partially eaten burrito is difficult to photograph with dignity. Great atmosphere, line out the door, and the staff were nice while working their butts off. Meanwhile, I'm standing there holding my burrito with both hands. Double gripping that beautiful mf. Highly recommend. Still couldn't define a Mission burrito under oath, but I'd happily eat another one.

The inside is pretty bare bones with bench style seating. It gives cafeteria vibes. The cashier will write down orders on paper tickets, so listen out for when they call your number out loud throughout the restaurant. It's old school at its finest. I ordered the burrito, and it was a solid and filling meal. It had flavor, and was perfectly toasty and warm. I will say the chips are nothing to write home about, but they were super cheap!

The orange salsa is probably a mango habanero: spicy with this lovely fruitiness. The green is your classic, done well. And the enchilada sauce is great. The chicken tinga itself was incredible and not overly salty, which so many places get wrong. Rice and beans cooked perfectly, lettuce chopped nice and fine. But the thing that won me over happened before I even ordered: the server brought out a little plate of samples: their mole, some chicken tinga, some birria; just so I could taste around the menu. Who does that??! Simple interior, clean, super friendly people. All of it for about $15! In SF that's like a pricing error in my favor. I'll be back.

Cocina Mamá Cholita is such a find, it's a total WOW!…read more It's totally worth three times around the block for street parking (really). On a scrubby block of the outer Mission, I used to be here weekly for social skills therapy with my son at KidSpace. So, I was familiar with the parking challenges. Ten minutes later we headed in. Clean, welcoming warm, they invited us to try anything before ordering. We were ready to order the enchiladas divorciadas ($18.49) and breakfast burrito with guacamole ($16.99). We were kindly fussed over by a woman I think was the young owners' mom. She wiped down our table, brought chips and three kinds of salsa and my coffee plus cream and sugar. My son wolfed down the enchiladas with green and red sauces and I saved half of my breakfast burrito for dinner later. My burrito was deliciously filling - and I was super hungry - that's how satisfying it was! The owner told me they make the chorizo sausage in house. The burrito had a wonderful smoky flavor, almost like bacon. Check out this wonderful, newer spot on the 3400 block of Mission. Lovely owners, great food!
