Lori's cakes are GREAT! I found her here on yelp and I am so glad I did. I have used her now for two of my events. Lori has responded quickly to my emails. I understand, in this industry talented bakers are extremely busy. With that being said she has never disappointed me. She has delivered each time, which is always a major plus! Not only are these cakes detailed in design they taste amazing! Many of my guests have asked me, "where did you get this awesome cake?" From my experience, Lori's Custom Cakes is the way to go. I cant wait for any future events I may have and see what Lori will do next! Thank you Lori! read more

We used Lori for our wedding cake and were unfortunately very disappointed. Her photos online looked great and she said she had experience with our preferred style so perhaps it was outsourced. The cake we received did not match our expectations at all. We asked for a pallet knife design on a chocolate raspberry cake. Her quote for a two tier was ~20% more expensive than other bakers but because she said she had experience we went with her. I had sent two emails a week before the event asking for confirmation she was still okay to make it, provided lists of flowers we were using for the wedding, color scheme and multiple reference photos. The cake itself was just fine, though the buttermilk was extremely thick. I wish I could ask for a refund, but the main takeaway would be that ask for examples of her previous work before confirming because what we received was fine, but not what we had asked for read more

My experience with Lori was more like something from the TV show "Nailed it". I ordered a cake from her own Instagram account which I am posting the photo with this review, I asked her to make it PASTEL colors and specifically said, lavender, white, pink, gray with small hints of aquamarine. The final product was a sloppy decorated orange color cake with green and yellow accents. The girl on the cake looked so weird and the balloons and arrangements looked horrible. Not only the cake looked nothing like what I ordered, the colors were way off, the worst was the actual cake that tasted and smelled like raw eggs. My whole clubhouse kitchen , my daughter's clothes and our hands smelled so bad we to cleaned up with Lysol and bleach. We ended up putting the whole cake in the trash because no one could eat it. I ordered hazelnut and almond flavors and the cake was raw egg flavor. Lori was also non-responsive and had poor communication throughout. In the day of delivery I asked her for a photo and she refused to send me one, now I understand why, because she knew I wouldn't accept it. She dropped off the cake at our party room without waiting 5 minutes for me to arrive. Also she changed my delivery time a couple of times. She ended up giving me a partial refund but she definitely lost my business because she ruined my daughter's birthday and her photos. I'm so bummed I ordered from her and trusted her Instagram account. read more

So I have been dealing with this lady since my brothers death over 8 years ago excellent until today today my Grandson 2nd birthday she delivers but don't call I called her over 20 times after she messaged my son on facebook she never answered said she has a auto answer but she's out doing deliveries ( but she can't Andre her phone) She said she had a delivery in Oceanside I said I can meet u somewhere she said I'm not pulling over and being late for a wedding ugh excuse me it's 9:30 am who's weeding is this early but anyways she goes on to get disrespectful and says the F word to a paying customer she's the Devil in disguise read more

Imagine ordering a cake for a big huge event and getting the writing on the cake completely wrong. Yes we were celebrating a promotion party and she ended up writing on the cake "fair winds and following seas" . Not the message we wanted on the cake at all! There was no way to even hide that from our guests. Then to top it off the top layer of the cake started tilting over in a matter of 30 minutes we had to put bbq sticks up just to hold the cake. I will never use her again and I recommend that you don't either. The cake was not even good in taste. I could get a vons cake that would taste much better than hers . Than waste 500 dollars on the wrong cake. This cake was suppose to be the centerpiece of our entire party . read more

Brides, do NOT use this "business". We payed for 4 tiers to my wedding cake and the day of the wedding she arrived with only 3. Despite countless attempts to reach Lori, she has failed to return emails, phone calls and texts. This lack of communication is unacceptable for someone who claims to be "professional". She owes money back on cake that we payed for and never received. She is not trustworthy or someone who you can depend on especially when it comes to your big day or any occasion for that matter. What is really off putting is the fact that she posts on social media instead of getting back to you. read more

Seriously go elsewhere. Never again will I be coming to her. We all for the blue one on the left and got the one on the right. It look like she got tired and just left it as that, I'm not one to complain but we paid almost 200 and got something we didn't ask for. read more

the communication was great - she was super responsive and kind. the design of the cake was pretty close to what I asked for minus the name on the cake. However, the taste of the cake has an opportunity. It was very dry and didn't have a lot of flavor. the cookies looked somewhat of what I asked for, but again - the name on the cookies wasnt what I asked for and we didn't get the balloon cookies I asked for either. read more

Just want to agree with everyone else here that gave her some low reviews. I have emailed her 10/16 to provide the info for the custom cake that I'll be ordering for 11/8, she responded 3 days after and we have talked about the design and how much the cost is, she even confirmed the date and that she'll be able to do it. After that I did not get a reply until 11/2, she then confirmed again even the delivery time. Guess what?! She ignored me up to this date. Very unprofessional, I could've gotten the cake elsewhere if she did not confirm it. We ended up buying at whole foods while she's posting almost everyday in instagram. Order 1 year ahead. Maybe then she'll do it. read more

I ordered my wedding cake from here, because my theme was Nightmare Before Christmas and I knew I wanted a very detailed, extravagant cake. Her website seemed like the perfect match and price really wasn't a concern for me, so long as I got the cake of my dreams. However, the cake I got was nothing like the cake we discussed. I've posted 2 photos of what she said i was going to get and a photo of the actual cake. I showed her a few sample cakes that I really liked, she cut and pasted some pictures of those sample cakes together, saying that is what my cake would look like, but in my wedding colors. To give you an idea of what I wanted, if you Google Nightmare Before Christmas wedding cakes, you'll see some amazing cakes. Even on her website, she had one that was for a birthday (she sent it to me as a sample of what to expect - I added that photo to this review), so I didn't think what I was asking for would be any issues. Unfortunately, when I saw it, I couldn't have been more disappointed. The colors were... bland and boring. The decorations were worse. Instead of painting the scene from the movie, with the landscape curling mountain, they drew maybe 4 swirls that didn't look like anything. No scene at all, no characters. One of the layers was supposed to be like a corset (that's what my dress was), but you couldn't tell what it was. The decorations were sad, ABSOLUTELY NOTHING like her website, and definitely NOT worth what I paid for that cake, $1200!!!!! Not to mention the flavors, gross!!!!!! Every layer was supposed to be different, with 2 of the layers being a couple of her "special wedding flavors" (you can find them on her website, with a type of alcohol rubbed on the cake, a layer of caramel or chocolate along with the frosting). Not for me. Every single layer tasted the same: dense sugar flavor. There was no caramel layer, no alcohol flavor in the cake. None of them tasted like the tastings we received. I don't know about the chocolate layer cuz that's the top tier that we're saving for our 1 year anniversary but we're only doing that for traditional, I thought about skipping it so I'm not reminded in a year how terrible the cake was. DO NOT LET HER WEBSITE FOOL YOU! Her cakes look NOTHING like those cakes on her site, nothing like those pieces of art. It looked like a child decorated it. And trust me when I say, you can find someplace with much better flavors. I should have gone to Flour Power. At least they offer fruit flavors. read more

If I were you, steer clear from here. I was so excited at first, believing I would receive the cake exactly how I wanted. Not only did she do such a horrible job, the cake tasted disgusting. I gave her an exact picture of what I wanted. Due to her work on instagram & her high following base, I didn't expect to be scammed like this. When I told her I wanted at least a 50% refund of the cake due to her not meeting my expectations & giving us a cake that was 100% different then the picture we sent her, she only gave us a 40$ refund. We paid 178$ for a cake that wasn't even used(yes it was that bad). The blue cake is what we wanted, the white cake is what we received. I will never order from her again and anyone else that sees this, don't get scammed. Def not worth the hype at all. Btw I only write bad reviews when I feel like its needed, and this one was definitely needed. I honestly wish I could give 0 stars. This cake was supposed to be so special for my niece who had just recently lost her mom. We wanted to make sure her first birthday party without her mom was perfect. This is a long overdue rating :/ Ordered a a custom cake and cupcake for my daughters first birthday as well as a naked style smash cake The cake was tasty and looked perfect ! ( I was very specific in how I wanted Sophie giraffe to appear) I used Twiggs (albeit last minute) for my other daughters first birthday and the cake color was way off and the cake had been burned/overcooked and customization was very limited(I'll say they were kind enough to refund me) My point? Spring for a little extra and go with Lori! Get EXACTLY what you want AND have it taste great! You won't regret it read more

It actually pains me to write this review because I have no doubt that Lori's cakes are amazing, based solely on the photos. I love the cakes that Lori posts to social media and reached out to her to make our custom wedding cake. Initially she was pretty prompt in responding to the facebook message I sent her and we had a good conversation about the design of the cake I wanted and she said she was excited to make it for us and would have a sketch to us on Monday. Monday came and went, I followed up towards the end of the week and she was radio silent. After another few days she finally responded saying she was having computer issues and asked for my email so she could email the sketch. I provided my email and she didn't respond to the message and she also didn't send an email. I waited a few more days before I came to yelp and saw another similar post and her response was to call. So I called and left voicemails on two separate days. No response. I finally texted her and got a response from her saying that she was having computer and email issues and that was why I hadn't received any responses and that she couldn't answer my calls because of teaching classes. OK. So I asked if she could provide my quote via text. She said yes and she would get to me as soon as she finished her deliveries. That was last Tuesday. I have sent her multiple texts since then and have not gotten any response. My wedding is in less than two weeks and at two points in this process I offered her an out that if she wasn't able to and or not interested in making the cake to let me know so I could find a different baker. She either said she did and would send the sketch or went silent. I don't know about other brides, but being ghosted by a baker is super stressful and a headache I absolutely didn't need at this point. I understand she is running a small business and managing business and baking can be difficult, but the lack of communication blaming tech issues while she continued to post photos of her cakes to social media actually really put me off. Lucky for me another independent baker has stepped up and graciously fit us into her calendar to take care of the cake on short notice in a professional and prompt manner. If you can get her to communicate I'm sure she's great, but for me, attempting to coordinate a cake with Lori was time consuming on my end and what I was hoping would be an amazing one of a kind cake experience from a talented baker has ended in disappointment. read more

I'm only giving this review because she had forgot that I had a smash cake photo shoot, she said she was waiting for my confirmation but in the end apologized after thoroughly checking her notes reading that I was waiting for her confirmation, she did have an emergency but I didn't understand how she could forget and not have an alternative person receiving calls. She made me an amazing cake for my sons first birthday and included the smash cake for free. I wouldn't say she is the most reliable. read more

The cake was nice and was delivered on time. I was disappointed that the filling flavor was incorrect, and when I informed the shop I didn't get a response. A $200 cake should be made as agreed upon. At least an apology? Some incentive to go back? Bizarre. read more

Lori is amazing and her cake was delicious, beautiful and perfectly made. She made a beautiful unicorn cake for my daughter's birthday. Everyone commented on how tasty it was and how amazing it looked. My daughter is a big fan of shows like Nailed IT!, Cake wars, Halloween cake wars and many of the other baking shows. We surprised by having an award winning artist like Lori make her cake and she was stunned. She had no words when Lori showed up with her cake. And when she saw it, she was blown away! This review is long overdue, but I can't thank Lori enough! She volunteered through a nonprofit organization to make my medically complex son's first birthday cake free of charge. We told her the theme (space), color scheme, and flavors, and she took care of the rest. She created a beautiful, fun, custom tall cake and even delivered it to the party for free (which was not expected of her at all). It was delicious! I'm not even a person who likes to eat cake, but I enjoyed it a LOT, as did everyone else. Communication with her was easy, and she was a delight to work with. Lori made my law school graduation cake. I knew I requested a lot from her and she delivered 1000%! I can't be happier! Lori is your go to for any custom cake, wedding/graduation/birthday! The detail she put into making my cake was amazing! I asked for pigs and cows all over the place and a courthouse with a blind lady cow holding the scales of justice. I can't praise her work enough! I hate to write this but I think it's important that people know the potential with hiring this person. I inquired two weeks ago about a quote for two birthday cakes. I sent Lori a picture of one of the cakes and she said she'd provide a quote the following day. Despite follow up emails on my part (at least two of them) she never replied. I am now scrambling trying to find a place that will do the cake for my son's party. Wasting other people's time is disrespectful and if Lori was too busy to take on the task she should have said that from the get go. Her cakes look beautiful but there is something to be said for common courtesy and professionalism. read more

Lori is amazing! I procrastinated on getting a baker for my wedding cake until maybe 2 weeks before the date (also had to move the date up) so I was panicking. I found Lori on yelp and was a little worried with the reviews. However, I can't believe she had issues communicating! I sent out inquiries to three bakers and she was the only one that replied- and within 24 hours! She asked how many people I was expecting, what flavor cake, and if I had any ideas as to what I'd like (and she sent a couple pictures to choose from based on the vague design I described). She clarified the timing and everything was settled 3 days before the wedding. She even delivered the cake (for free) to our reception in Liberty Station. It was one of the few things that went smoothly that day... and I got to eat amazing funfetti cake for a week after!!! Thank you Lori!!! read more

She deserves a "10"...but can only give five stars here. Her cake was the showstopper!!! I had partnered with Lori to make a cake for my son's wedding rehearsal dinner and she delivered --and then some. I asked her to make a tophat cake with a picture on it and she was fearless. Further, I asked her to "surprise" us with the cake flavors (as she is the professional here, not me) and she did not disappoint. In the end, the cake looked so amazing at the rehearsal dinner that the bride made her first marital executive decision and asked the restaurant to not cut it and it was saved as THE wedding cake for the next day so the rest of her guests could see Lori's masterpiece. Not oily did the cake look great but everyone loved the way it tasted as well.....usually one gets one or the other but Lori nailed both --the way it looked & the way it tasted. Even the most cynical New Yorkers at the wedding were impressed and there were even a few tears. Best of all maybe was that Lori was so easy to work with as I had to do all of this via email from the East Coast. Yet, she made it quite easy, was very enthusiastic and her prices were way more than fair. If you ever need a very creative yet delicious baked treat for a special occasion, you would be crazy to use anyone except her....which is a lot coming from me as I tend to be one of those cynical New Yorkers! read more
