The Lord Dudley is a proper English pub. From its relaxed yet buzzing atmosphere, the quaint English decor and styling, friendly staff, and good range of comfort food are what bring me back. This is a great pub to visit an enjoy a few drinks with mates, especially if you can snare a comfy armchair to sit on. I love nabbing a table in the garden restaurant and enjoying the hearty fare. My picks are the Vined Ripened Tomatoes & Buffalo Mozzerella Basil Olive Oil 9, the Warm Goats Cheese Beetroot Sicilian Olive Toasts 9, or the House Cured Ocean Trout & Horseradish Crème Fraiche Capers 15.50 to start. For Mains, my picks are the Pork Belly & Braised Cabbage Mash Gravy 27.50, the Black Angus Sirloin & Shoestring Fries & Red Wine Butter 37.50, or the Tasty Beef Sausages & Mash Peas Gravy & Relish 19.50. Deserts include Rhuburb & Blackberry Crumble with Ice Cream (mmm!), , Warm Flourless Chocolate & Almond Pudding, Almond Parmacotta with Cherry Sauce and of course, what English style fare would be complete without Bread & Butter Pudding (all 12.50).

As everyone will mention, this definitely has an old-school English pub feel to it and the old school pint glasses with the handles don't do anything to dispel that similarity! They also have some good English beers on tap, which is always pleasing for a Pommy immigrant such as myself! It's a very chilled out place for a drink, although it can get pretty busy at times, which creates a pretty good atmosphere throughout the place. I've not eaten in the restaurant downstairs, but from what I've heard the food is very good although it is quite expensive if you consider you're eating in a pub, but this isn't your usual pub grub! If you are doing a bit of a tour of the local establishments in Paddington, then this is definitely one for your list!

Okay, I'm not sure if you can say that this pub is actually in the backstreets of Paddington, but it seemed to be far enough away from the main shopping and entertainment strip that is Oxford Street to warrant it as such (Jersey Road simply to be a reasonably busy road, and there were a number of other places around here as well to suggest it wasn't actually a back street pub). Anyway, if there is one word to describe this place and that is gorgeous - the pub is beautful with this really authentic old English charm. There are numerous pubs that try to capture the English pub theme and simply turn out to be plastic wash ups, yet this pub seems to do it really well. Oh, and the staff are really friendly as well. It was a shame that the beer garden wasn't open when I came here (I like beer gardens).

    Awesome chill space !

It's a little piece of England ...... a little piece of history. It's got character, above average food and a great variety of Local & English beers. The Lord Dudley is a great escape ...... not to the country but rather to a place where you can relax and enjoy the day or evening ......... and suck in all that Cosy atmosphere.

This is a proper, pubby-pub where they sell beer by the pint and packets of pork scratchings. It could have been lifted directly from a quaint English village - the slightly faded but richly coloured carpets, dark mahogany tables and shady corners. It is immensely popular amongst the locals, and on most nights there are people chatting outside as well as in. Think twice about going to watch the rugby or football there - it gets completely packed. Downstairs there's a hidden gem of a restaurant. It has its own bar, high ceilings and garden theme. Pot plants droop down from the ceiling and brighten up the corners, adding freshness to an otherwise simple room. The food is delicious - the beef sausages are hearty and comforting, but so large it proved difficult to finish. The side of steamed green vegetables were wonderfully green and crunchy, unlike so many of the swamp-like, soggy offerings in other pubs. Weekly-changing specials and desserts are displayed on thick blackboards around the restaurant. The desserts look particularly delicious - homemade and traditional, such as vanilla rice pudding and chocolate tart. The best part of the meal was the warm, freshly baked bread roll and butter that each of us had to start. It's rare nowadays for restaurants to provide free bread, and I loved this nod to tradition, comfort and Englishness. The staff are charming and attentive, the ambience is relaxed and the service quick. I'll definitely be going back for another dose of Englishness.

The Aussie and British flags hanging outside hint at this place's caper - a traditional English-style pub for expats, tourists and of course the Paddo locals. It's the kind of cosy venue that makes you wish you were sitting somewhere in a little town in England with snow falling outside. (Or have I just watched 'The Holiday' too many times?) In true English style, there are almost 20 beers on tap and a hearty food menu featuring good pub grub. Spread over a few different levels, you can choose from the rustic-style pub to a sleeker bar upstairs and a lush garden bar. There's also a function room available. Close to the Paddington Lawn Bowls Club, you could always roll a few on the green, then retire here for a liquid reward.

Whenever I visit the beautiful inner city suburb of Woollahra, I can't help but drop by the quaint but absolutely fantastic Lord Dudley - an English styled pub with multilevel bars. They have the Public Bar, the Lounge Bar and the Saloon Bar on the lower level plus the Upstairs Bar that is booked for private functions most of the time. Each level has its own charming vibe but for me, the best spot would be their gorgeous main public bar where grand selection of beers and wines are displayed. I love how the crowd flows on to the footpath in summer. Guinness beer on tap? You bet! Last time I was there, I saw the well-respected journalist George Negus! Wonder who will I meet next? If you want to drop by, the Lord Dudley is open every day from 11am to 11pm on Mondays to Wednesdays, 11am til midnight on Thursdays to Saturdays, and noon til 10pm on Sundays.

Great atmosphere and they serve pints which in Sydney bars is for the most part unavailable. Early Saturday afternoon from 2pm until around 4:30pm has been for me an excellent quite time. I choose a spot in the rear and have a couple whilst reading or waiting for a friend to turn up. This 'quite' period is great for a game of darts in a room all to itself. Now the dichotomy between the quite time and the post quite time is the sudden intake of drinkers who begin to flow into the pub after 4pm. The atmosphere changes and not for the worse by any means. It takes on a new persona and that of a friendly, noisy and vibrant pub. The clientele covers a vast range of drinkers from extremely good looking nicely dressed girls to aged blokes like me enjoying an afternoon away from the family home. The food is great in the Dudley's bistro and I highly recommend their meat dishes. It's an upstairs downstairs situation which adds to the overall economy of space and lighting. I do enjoy the wasabi peas you can buy over the counter, a couple of bucks for a heaped serving that will keep you and your drinking partner going for a while. This pub is an excellent place to be alone to enjoy your own company but it's also a really electric drinking barn where you feel part of the Dudley's furniture. Careful walking down the stairs to the toilets particularly when you're pissed, and I wish they would fix the $1.00 aftershave machine or at least display a not operating note. A great drinking spot!

"It's the best bar in Bondi!" they claimed, "It's a proper bar." We weren't enjoying ourselves at Ravesis so I gave in and followed them down to the end of Glenayr Avenue where the fun runs out - the end that there's no point going to unless there's sports on at the Beach Road Hotel. Outside this dull grey newly-built building there were groups of people sat and talking, and inside there were tunes pumping, cold beer and eclectic furniture crowded with beautiful people. I realised I would have to raise my game and wiped the sooky grimace off my face and we ordered a few beers at the bar. The beers were cold and we gathered some mis-matched chairs into a corner and ended up lost in conversation, only momentarily distracted when super-hot six-foot blondes walked up to the bar. And this is the good thing about Bad Mama, it's not the super-hot six-foot blondes, or the great food. It's the fact that you forget you're there - you're enveloped by the bar, not left perched in the middle of some massive empty bar which is so typical of the Bondi bar scene. On the face of it you know that this is a brand new constructed space, but when you're inside you're sucked in by the interior design and the lighting such that you forget and you could be in a bar in Hoxton Square or Hackney. I stopped into Speakeasy around 5:30 on a Thursday afternoon and found the place empty. With velvet covered couches, dark wooden desks, and oldtime decor including a vase of peacock feathers and a rotary phone, I was filled with instant ease. That and the ocean breeze blew in and out so freely you'd think you were on Campbell Parade (minus the crowds). I ordered a glass of their first listed Pinot Noir, Six Foot Six. The menu described the wine as "light and a little fruity." I won't beg to differ. It was drinkable to the point of slurpable and went down effortlessly for a red on a warm afternoon. I ordered a dish of mixed olives to accompany which was a good choice. As the late afternoon grew later, the place filled up a bit, but the energy stayed easy and carefree. The waitress might have played a part in this as well. She breezed around with great comfort, occasionally sitting with the guests and making informed wine recommendations. We got sat down and had to wait almost 25m for the first course of dumplings to be served, and the place only had 2 tables at that time, us and another table for 3. At one point the waitress brought a portion of steamed dumplings and we thought "finally" but no, she gave it to the other table while they still had unfinished dumplings on their table. For almost an hour it seemed like there was only 1 waitress and she was doing all the work so we didn't mind waiting for her. But the annoying thing was even when they started to have more waiters, nobody was looking after us. We had to wait roughly 10-15m to get a portion of dumplings every time, while the next table, had 5 plates of unfinished dumplings (and keep in mind, they only serve 2 at a time), so we were quite unhappy with the mistreatment. No diversity in dumplings, 2 small portions of steamed and 1 fried on repeat the entire night. I get it, it's all you can eat so options can be limited but at least if the dumplings were good, we wouldn't be complaining. They were absolutely mediocre, and the last plate of fried dumplings we got was cold, not even warm. It was only 90m sitting down but i'm not exaggerating, the amount of time we ate was only 20m, the 70m rest was waiting for the food. Total bill was $117/ 3 people. With a bad start and terrible ending, ordinary dumplings, long waiting time and poor customer service. The whole experience felt like a ripped off! The only 1 star there is for the band, they played good jazz music. Definitely would not recommend.
