Yesterday, myself and some friends came for a roast dinner. I was told if I signed up, it would be 10% off. So I did. I was then told when I asked, that doesn't apply to 'specials' despite being told I could apply it to any food. The person behind the bar also tried to tell me that there was 10% off the bill when I ordered - which was wrong as anyone can take 10% off in their head without much mental agility. Anyway. So after all that and her walking off to find out if a drink was included, something she said to me, and then coming back to say no sorry - no discount and no drink. She took the order. We then got 3 roast dinners that were stone cold. We returned them to a 'oh sorry i guess' kind of attitude. We then had them brought back to us - the same food on the same plates - supposedly reheated. First of all we should have been given fresh plates and new food... but worst of all they were still cold?!?! What had been done to them? What chef in their right mind sends the same plates out again- and still cold?? This is potentially the worst dining experience experience I've had in my life in Sydney ... and it was a special occasion for us. Well done for ruining it. read more

services is crap, food is gross, the only reason I give it 2 starts is because the patio is half decent. But I guess no where in Sydney really has great service. The beer could be colder! Its our go to spot for after work drinks. so im sure ill be spending a lot more money there to my shagrin. read more

This heritage listed venue boasts space, open areas and excellent lamb shanks. Since the bar's renovations, The Firehouse has enjoyed increasing popularity with the locals and professionals who work in the area. The staff are very friendly and only too happy to strike up a conversation over the bar. Try the chocolate fireman cocktail, their signature drink consisting of butterscotch, Baileys, chocolate and cream. Lunch specials during the week attract the professionals, but the venue is at its busiest on Friday and Saturdays. The Firehouse is spread across two levels, with plenty of space for events and work functions. Book a function room for free at the Firehouse and save money! Drink prices are also quite reasonable. Be careful what you order- the Firehouse is not renowned for its quality food. Outdoor heaters will keep you warm in Winter. read more

Have you ever accidentally drank sour milk? It only takes once but after that you will always smell your milk before you drink it. Sure, that's a pretty shit analogy, I guess my point is, one bad experience will make you reconsider all future experiences. So sadly, Firehouse, one person really put a bad taste in my mouth and I will not be heading back to you on purpose anytime soon. Let's quickly recap lessons learned from Thursday night: 1. One person (even not a regular employee) can damage a company's reputation. 2. Queues are actually really helpful - who knew?! 3. I may never know what my future holds - devastated. I had been waiting a lifetime (okay 3 weeks) to go to Firehouse on a Thursday night to get my tarot cards read - honestly how else would one find out if their love life was on track?! So last Thursday my girlfriend and I adventured to the bar (walked half a block), ordered a drink (vodka soda - might as well give you the full visual). When we ordered, the bartender told us to just have a seat near the tarot reader and when she was free we could jump in. After waiting patiently and excitedly mind you, she finished her reading and we popped up to go over. She then scolded us and told us that others were waiting (well a queue or waiting list would have been helpful then, because unlike her - we can't read minds!) So after she yelled at the table next to us to get them all to commit to whether they were getting readings done - she informed us that it would be a half hour wait. As we had dinner reservations, we replied, okay, no worries I guess we'll have to come back another time. She then proceeded to bad mouth us (talk shit) to the two gentlemen getting their cards read, telling them, 'They can't just look at me and expect me to read their cards' Wait a minute, are you serious? Needless to say, we were extremely offended so we did what any sane person would do, went upstairs and had a sulking drink - because well these situations require a second vodka soda and then we left. But most disappointing part of my night was that now my future is completely unknown, thanks a lot tarot lady. So sorry Firehouse, it's really not your fault but I certainly won't be coming back any time soon. read more

A great pub for a function, we held a cyber function the other night and it was well catered, friendly staff, seamless bar tab for guests and a good selection of beers and wines. Good amenities, a great ambience and an adequate private area for 40 guests. Centrally located close to transport and cabs. A must-see if you are in search of a great venue for a function. read more

Nice interior (being the inside of an old fire station - hence the name). Main bar area is comfortably lit, with good ambiance. They also have a number of booths running down the right hand side of the room! Booths are awesome and I'm glad to see their resurgence in pubs/cafes/diners in AU. Hit up some Fat Yak pale ale and the $10 Chicken Schnitty special, which came with chips and a small amount of side salad. Chicken was good, decent thickness (not the waver thin you might expect from a 'special), and served with a choice of sauces at $2 extra. Could have done with more sauce though. Food service is the 'order at the bar and collect when your beeper goes nuts' style. About 10-12 beers on tap, although I didn't spot any dark beers unfortunately. The yak got us through though. The Firehouse always falls off our radar as a pub lunch option Fridays. I think it's because you typically need to book for a bigger group and we sometimes fail at planning ahead. We've gone early a few times and rocked up without a reservation though. The food is okay -- I've enjoyed the salmon with sweet potato mash and the ceaer salad most recently. We always end up sitting around a short table, on these goofy seats that are just big cushions without a back. So I'd say that part is not that nice. Food is usually pretty quick in my experience. Not sure about the service. We usually just order it at the bar and then they bring it to the table. read more

This place has corporate crowd written all over it. Located in the hub that is North Sydney - kind of like a secondary central business district on the north side - it's easily one of the nicest bars in the area. Once a fire station, this historical building has retained it original charm with slick interiors dominated by an earthy colour palette and sculptural chandeliers that accent its high ceilings. Downstairs, it tends to be a standing affair with plasma screen televisions and a row of high bar tables and stools along one wall, while upstairs they serve a solid cocktail list that usually attracts a more female crowd - the Chocolate Fireman is the bomb, a new and improved take on the classic Mudslide with Frangelico, butterscotch schnapps, Baileys and Kahlua. The busiest night is easily Friday, when local workers rush to the bar for after work drinks, and every night of the week they offer a $12 meal deal with a drink purchase from 5.30pm - including steaks! They are open on Saturdays, but it seems this is mainly so people can hire out spaces upstairs for functions. read more

I suspect that this place used to be an old firestation, if only because of it's name (why else would you call a place the Firehouse Hotel unless it was a fire station that closed down and was turned into a pub - they'll turn anything into a pub if they have the chance). Anyway, this place is cool. In fact I am tempted to say that this is one of the best pubs in North Sydney (which isn't saying much considering most of the other pubs that I have visited around here are pretty average). In fact I even had a chance to chat with the owner, who was a really friendly and laid back kind of guy who, not surprisingly, kept on telling me that this place really starts pumping at night. Okay, I was only here during the day, and it was fairly quiet, but that is what I like about some places - hip, trendy, and pretty laid back. They have a pretty cool rooftop bar, and some rather awesome lounges. If I was a Sydney Sider then I'd definitely look for excuses to come back here. read more

Waiting for the other half to finish work I visit the Firehouse and confused with the interior which contrasts with the heritage of its fire station. It has bamboo print wallpaper, plasma screens throughout and mirrors. Its close of business but there is hardly any business as yet in the Firestation I dont mind a bit and try one of their passionfruit cocktails, its lovely and for me to say that means there is hardly any alcohol in it and like a slurpee or milkshake. I wonder upstairs with my exotic cocktail and enjoy the massive balcony, stay here for awhile until my partner joins me and we decide to try a gourmet pizza that being a Margritta. No living life on the edge here at this standard bar with reasonable cocktails and food. read more

This converted Fire Station in North Sydney is a pretty happening venue. It is great for after work drinks on a Friday night and offers sporting bar facilities too, so with the Melbourne Cup coming up - could come in handy. I came here for a Christmas function and the catering was really tops. There was a variety of anti pasto and miniture burgers and quiches, meatballs and satay it was really delicious and well presented. The bar is dark and there are a number of differently designed rooms in which to hang out in depending on your group. Downstairs it's bright and more quiet so you can sit and talk. There is no dancing but this venue is really good for functions and groups. There is also an outdoor area to sit across tables and take the night away. read more
