Well, we entered here at about 5pm. They weren't particularly busy, a few people at the bar, maybe 3-4 tables occupied in the restaurant area.
The waiter was pretty quick to seat us, was friendly, gave us menus and went away.
We noticed that one of the menus was different, so got him over to ask. One was the lunch menu and wasn't available, shouldn't have given us that, so took it away. Ok!
So, we ordered drinks first, I wanted a beer and my wife a glass of wine. No probs there.
The kids wanted lemonade with a shot of raspberry in it. The waiter turned, looked at the bar, then said they don't have raspberry. What bar (that serves cocktails, by the way) does not have raspberry? So, they settled for lemonade. Whatever.
Anyway, the drinks come out pretty quick and we never see that waiter again, except to see him talking amongst his colleagues around the bar area.
A waitress, very nice and friendly, comes over to take our orders. The kids had their hearts set on pizza but we were told that there were no pizzas or burgers left. Pretty disappointed, they had the crumbed chicken and chips each.
I ordered the Southern chicken and my wife had chicken Tacos. Now, it's important to remember here that they don't actually take orders as you'd expect. It's more of a "Things To Do" list, and they'll get around to it when they feel like it, so it seems, because it takes forever!
The kitchen staff didn't look very busy, mostly chatting over the counter to the waitress or just standing there staring into space.
Eventually, the food turns up and we are starving! What a let down. The kids meals came out later than ours, which never impresses me.
Tacos, in my opinion, normally have a bit of taste and maybe spice? My wife's were bland and tasteless. We make better ones at home. The Southern chicken was the same, so were the included potatoes and gravy. The kids' chicken were exactly the same pieces as my Southern chicken and were really nothing special either. Might aswell be eating cardboard. They said the chips were OK though!
I ate mine begrudgingly because I knew what it was costing. Ordered another beer and my wife a cocktail.
The beer came out quick but we waited and waited for the cocktail. Looked over at the bar, no people waiting and no bar staff. The girl supposedly serving was off chatting to a tattooed guy sitting at a table with another girl. I'm assuming he's the manager, I don't know. When she'd finished, she casually walked back but didn't seem to be doing much. Our waitress came back and said she'd find out what the wait was on our cocktail. It came in a couple of minutes.
The cocktail was actually the best thing we'd ordered. Fantastic. Coffee beans in it, can't remember the name off the top of my head.
Next, ice cream for the kids, which took an extraordinary amount of time. Who'd have thought ice cream was such a time consuming effort to serve? Hmm, anyway, it was very nice too.
If I'd have known from the start, I'd have only ordered the cocktail and the ice cream.
They were the only things worth having.
To top it all off, my kids were pretty disappointed to see pizza coming out from the kitchen, taken past us, and served to a table near the front, after being told there was none. Oh, but this, we found out was for the band who were performing there that evening! Way to treat your customers, guys! Look after the band though!
So, the bill came to $133, but managed to find it's way to over $135 after a surcharge which we weren't told about. Oh well, you live and learn.
Basically, this place trades solely on it's location, which is great. But, they lack service and decent food. Perhaps, if they treat their customers like less of an inconvenience, spent less time standing around chatting and laughing and actually bothered to produce something worthwhile, this review would have been a lot better.
A place like this, in a location like this, could be and SHOULD be, offering so much more.
