We found this tapas restaurants, and decided to give it a try. Without a reservation, we were seated outside. Very quickly, the entire inside and outside filled up. The service was good and friendly, although we did have to flag someone down to get the check and to get water refills. Overall, the weight staff works really hard and does their best. The food was pretty good. Some things were way better than others. For example, the tuna on potato was cold tin tuna over a cold, soggy potato, but the chicken skewer, special, the potatoes, and the prawns were delicious. The ambience is very festive and bustling. Lots of good energy and it can get a bit loud. Overall, a good experience and I would go back. read more

This place started as a Sherry bar and has evolved to a Tapas wine bar. Quality/Quantity - Slider - Good size (for a tapa), cooked well. Roasted Chicken Thighs - Just enough for two people, good flavors. Green Beans - Again, just enough for two people. Cooked well, nice and crispy. 1906 Red Beer - Good start. Good beer. Spanish beer. Well, we are having tapas. Wine is also available, I like the wine chart, see picture. Actually, they had a fairly good selection of wines; I should have gone in that direction. See menu and decor. Atmosphere - Got here late with no reservations. 2 floor restaurant, bathrooms upstairs. Ground floor is for walk-ins, upstairs is for reservations. Got seating in the corner next to the steps. After realizing that was a really bad location due to the traffic, I had the waiter move us. Indoor/outdoor seating available, too cold tonight to sit outside. Bar seating is also available. Open 6 days a week from noon to 11:30pm; Saturdays from 5 to 11:30pm and closed Sunday. Service - Hit and miss, overall good. Server was NOT very helpful but the good news is that the manager started helping him and service improved. Price - $70AUD, $47US expensive for what we felt we got. Overall, the quality of food was good but the service could have been better. The manager was better than the server. Owner Comment - Congrats on your success since 2012 and your 4 businesses. Happened upon this place this afternoon. It was fantastic. Made us feel like we were back in Madrid. The charcuterie with jamon, buratta and pickled onion was so tasty. The braised beef was out of this world. Huge portion and so tender. Our waiter was the best. This wine was outstanding. Great atmosphere. Enjoyed talking to other patrons. Every so often you find a place and think 'how did I not know about this before?' Tapavino was one of those - hitting the holy trifecta of great food, impressive service and a lovely ambience. The food ... wow! The mushroom truffle tart was a highlight, closely followed by the piquillo peppers, roasted cauliflower, brussel sprouts and patatas bravas. The wine was great too. Due to a show starting, we didn't have time for dessert ... but no worries - we'll be back! read more

Overall, it was a fun experience. The downsides were that it was really dark inside, so impossible to see the menu without using your phone's flashlight, menu was printed in light colors and small print, it was warm and very loud in the restaurant, lots of people packed in, the servers were super busy so service was pretty slow. We asked for tap water, but she only gave us one small bottle of it at a time for 5 people. When we got the bill, we were charged for some bottled still water which we'd never asked for. Now for the good parts... We ordered the deluxe set menu, so we got to try many different dishes. Some of them were really good, others not so much, but it was an adventure to have such a variety. They brought little plates of the items and we all split them onto our own plates. We definitely didn't leave hungry at all! I'm not sure we'd ever go back, but it was a fun thing to try. read more

We were seated immediately upstairs in a cozy dining room. Our server Lisa was friendly and knowledgeable. We both started with a glass of wine which Lisa had suggested and they were excellent choices. I had the tiny scallops which were simply delicious and I was glad I'd ordered country bread to sop up the wonderful sauce. My husband had empanadas, the croquette of the day and chicken wings that he couldn't stop raving about. This place was located across the street from the Marriott where we were staying so couldn't have been closer. We stopped by here before heading to the Opera. It's not super close but still walkable. Situated in a back alley, it's easy to miss but it adds to the character of this place. They have outdoor seating and We ordered 3 things and all of them were delicious - avocado tostada (not really on a tostada, the bread was more like crisp), baked scallops (small but delicious) with chorizo and broiled cauliflower steak with a red pepper spot. We liked all the dishes and they paired well with wine and beer. Note that they only serve Spanish wines and are rather proud of the fact. This is not the place to go if you need a quick meal or a bite. The service is rather slow. But overall, definitely try for the food and the vibe. read more

We were delightfully surprised with our visit to Tapavino! At first we were concerned with the level of noise, but soon fell into the spirit of dozens of young people having fun. The menu, more than just Tapas options, was delightfully varied and the food was wonderful. OK, I'm in love. All the previous reviewers are not lying - this place is amazing. A new absolute favourite. The food is incredible. We had "jamon" in all varieties (Espanol for ham, mate). I had a mushroom tart topped with jamon & truffle oil... I mean, it was sex on a plate. I also had the scallops with morcilla... this was me being open-minded about morcilla (morcilla is blood sausage). I can say I don't like morcilla. It just tastes like plain, gross animal fat to me. But honestly, the scallops were exquisite in taste and presentation. My friends got this epic potato dish I was super jealous of, I had a bite and I am definitely getting one to myself next time and also the witlof dish, which was different and interesting, but really really good (witlof, blue cheese and roasted hazelnuts). THEN THERE WAS DESSERT! We got 3 and shared. The chocolate terrine with salt and olive oil (dense and rich, but perfection), the dulce de leche tart and the prune and brandy cheesecake.... seriously all luscious and delicious. I had very little time for a quick snack, so I sat at the bar and wolfed my food down. Nevertheless the wine advice was on point - the recommended Oloroso (a Parker 92!) exploded with flavour once introduced to the fat in the jamon iberico (cebo unfortunately - if I had one criticism, it'd be that I'd rather a few small slices of bellota than 100g of cebo...), the pan was just right with flavourful tomatoes, and service prompt and enjoyable. My only regret is not having another hour to try a few more, both of the food and the sherries. Two Americans plopped down next to me and, oblivious to the theme of the place, ordered long island ice tea and champagne, and then asked about burgers. He reminded us that the kitchen is going to close. The selection is also very limited to be called a true tapas bar. Mind = blown to pieces. Walked in here accidentally trying to find Bulletin Place a month or so ago. Was struck by how packed and happy it was. Then saw a Yelper add a picture of their razor clams here a fortnight ago, and the deal was sealed. We started with a pinot grigio in a 500ml carafe - looks like a test tube with a smallish bulb at the end but a helluva lotta wine comes out of that guy let me tell ya. The food: - Razor clams with split peas, long and sumptuos, a real standout. - Braised chorizo with Spanish olives, rich, saucy, a real standout. - Jamon with ashy goats cheese and roast beetroot, a real standout. - Cucumber and seared watermelon salad, interesting but not a real standout. Everything was just. No, I can't. This is killing me. I want to be back there. Never write reviews when you're hungry, it's not healthy. To finish we went inside, sat at the bar and ordered a couple of sherries. And found out that while we don't particularly like sherries, it was fun to try new things. read more

I ordered the milk's cheese in leaves & the roasted cauliflower dishes. The milk cheese was alright, you're supposed to eat the leaves but they were a little burnt in flavor. The cauliflower was delicious and I would order again! It was served with chorizo. Very nice flavor profile. The reviews say the staff is amazing but I found them to be normal, nothing special. I walk past this place every other day and it smells like they are dissolving bodies in barrels. Snowtown style! That olfactory observation aside (it only exists early in the morning. It was a project lunch. It actually stands for something else but it escapes me at this minute ;) We had: - crab, avacado & chili tostado (good) - lentils, peas, goats curd & caramelised walnuts (good) - braised chorizo, black olives, romesco de tapavino (good) - pork, veal, almond, jamon meatballs (good) - braised chicken, tomato salsa and paprika mayo (good) The place was busy but the wait was too long. We went for lunch and it was a tick over an hour and a half to get every dish. Too long. If it's busy enough to warrant then hire more cooks/waitstaff. Get that right and you've got a 5. Believe all the reviewers: this place is absolutely outstanding. I was in charge of picking a place for a colleague's farewell and having heard good things about Tapavino, decided to make a booking. It's probably a great thing I did, because the place was packed when we got there and it appears to be that way most days of the week - they're definitely popular! The setting outside is super cute and it doesn't even feel like you're in Sydney - it's sort of like you just stepped into a little Italian or Spanish village. Inside, the place is bustling with that good fun Spanish atmosphere and you can tell everyone is having a good time. We were a table of 8 so we ordered several tapas to share. I'd definitely recommend going as a group rather than as a couple, because you won't really get value for money and won't get to try most of the amazing tapas they have...you should aim to try a few! The food was amazing, I can't fault one single dish. Highly recommend the lamb with yogurt and the potatoes, they were my favourite. One afternoon at work a crowd came back from lunch going absolutely batshit over something called a 'Tapavino' -- like Jesus was spotted in town but in his new life had taken a sexy Spanish name. Turns out it's a mind-blowing little tapas place in an alley -- totes Melbourne style. In the afternoons people swarm around the door like ants to a crumb of food, practically begging the poor host for a table in the tiny venue. I've been several times, with lofty aspirations of eating the whole menu at some point in the near future. No shame. The only thing I can't be bothered with again is the crab and avocado toast, which seems to indicate some major crab shortage for the price... Otherwise, expect a dazzling wine menu, and all the typical meat and cheese platters, seafood, and cold and hot shares you could dream of. Portions are fairly massive - they recommend 4 plates per 2 people but I end up feeling like a fat lard with that many. It usually comes to $50pp with 4 plates, a dessert, and 375ml of wine between the two of us. read more

This cute wine bar is INCREDIBLE. I visited for the first time 2 months ago, and have been back 5 times already! It is on a charming ally way in the CBD, but can get quite crowded if you don't get there early enough. You can make a booking and sit upstairs, otherwise they reserve the bottom bar area for walk ins. Sit outside if it is a nice day! It is a great place to go after work for a beautiful glass of wine or their delicious sangria. The food is on another level. Go with a small group so you can order many of the amazing tapas. We managed to get someone to mind the kids and had our first night out alone in 13 years to celebrate our wedding anniversary (18 years thanks for asking). We had finished dinner and were walking slowly back to the train trying to avoid returning to normality. We wanted something a little different to finish off the night and I had heard of this place online. We both like sherry and we were walking right past it so we dropped in for a nightcap and... wow. I have never seen so many sheries to choose from. We found a spot at the bar and relied on the bartenders recommendations. Spot on. We each had 2 (or 3 or 4). Nice atmosphere. Great buzz to the place. A fantastic way to round out the evening. The food looked amazing (even though we had just finished an amazing meal elsewhere and were frankly stuffed). The chicken was just as good though. hmm would say the cheese in vine leaves was another fantastic dish. I wasn't a fan of the yellow fin tuna unfortunately. The dessert dulce le leche was seriously good. The service was excellent with the a recommendation of red wine from the waitress. I visited this bar/wine bar/restaurant twice on a recent trip to Sydney. Let's start with the most important thing, the wine list. It's huge! And all Spanish wines, by the glass, carafe or bottle. I sampled a fee different Syrah's and Albariño's on this visit and was satisfied with both. It's seems there is a wine for everyone on this wine list and reasonably priced for Sydney as well. Moving into the menu, it is small but amazing. It is broken up into a couple of different sections depending on whether your looking for a full blown 3 courses or just some sharing plates amongst friends. On my visit I had a great jarmon with pickled beet root and goats curd dish with countless other small sharing plates. I recommend the pate, it was soooo smooth and served at room temperature with warm crusty bread, a complete winner. Finally the service. On both visits it was great. On the first night our waiter was personable and knee the menu well to make some great suggestions. On the second night we were looked after by two different waiters each of which we're great. Overall a great couple of nights out with good food and great wine. Highly recommend read more

What the actual F Sydney, here I am boasting to everyone in the US about how Sydney siders are some of the worlds most discerning and demanding eaters out there and that we know what's good. Well I'm totally shocked I was led astray by these other reviews cause what I had here today was a total shit show. We tried an array of dishes but I'll mention a few that stood out as being the most offensive: Oysters on the half shell: mmmm how can you F this up? Drown it in tomato purée and sprinkle some parsley on it so you can't taste the oyster at all. Mind. Blown. #fail Scallops: let's blast it so it's nice and well done oh and then a little dollop of something that taste like duck on the side cause you know, why would you want to taste the scallop? Yellowtail: the waiter recommended this one to us after I asked him what is a 'must try' dish. Again, it seems the theme of their treatment of seafood in general is "why the f would you want to taste any of it, let's see what crazy spices we can use to cover up the integrity and nuances of the main ingredient so it is completely obscured and camouflaged". This dish actually made me angry. It looked like some quality slices of fish covered in roasted nuts spiced with cumin. You heard me- CUMIN IN AN F'n sashimi-esque fish dish!! I mean, I don't care what type of cuisine you're trying to do the bipolar madness going on in these dishes are a cardinal sin to all cooking. Respect the ingredients and make their intrinsic qualities sing. This felt like a rookie chef's demented science experiment. Only good thing about the meal was the glass of wine I had and the attentive service. We came in excited and really hoping to enjoy a fine meal and left just disgusted, dazed and confused and headed around the corner to Cafe Sydney for a second dinner to make up for this one. read more

So I came here for a mate's birthday, and walked out beyond content! This place is amazing. But be prepared, this place is always crowded, so make sure you book - especially if you are coming for dinner. We ordered and shared all our dishes together. The watermelon salad was brilliant, and the cod salad was to die for. Every dish that came out was better than the last - the only disappointing dish was the lamb with feta. It wasn't bad, just ordinary. Also, Tapavino has an extensive amount of Cherry on the menu - personally, I think cherry is too sweat, and so was extremely pleased that they also a vast amount of dry cherry on the list. Brilliant lunch in my final Sydney days. I was on my own, but they're happy to have single diners at the bar. Works for me. Food was delicious, and bigger portions than I expected. The crab, avocado, & chilli tostado was fresh and very tasty. Followed by the spiced lamb shoulder with pomegranate & yogurt and I couldn't eat another bite. Washed these down with a few glasses of wine, with recommendations by the lovely server, and it was a perfect lazy lunch. Shot of Pacharán? Yep. Chocolate dessert with sherry? Of course. I was excited to try this place out after reading some great reviews. Unfortunately, I disagree with the hype and felt like this place was mediocre and stuffy. Despite the line outside, we were able to be seated right away for dinner. It was, however, very crowded inside. I felt like I was having dinner with the couple sitting next to us, because the tables were so close together. More than once, the waiters/waitresses bumped into our table trying to serve the other tables. It was very loud here, so it was hard to ask questions to our waiter and hear his answers (not that his answers were any good). The wine we ended up with was not great, nor was the food. All of the food descriptions sounded good, but when we finally tasted it, we said 'We're paying how much money for this??'. Bland, boring food. Everything is good. Really good. Worth the wait for a table (check out Bulletin Place bar next door) Tapavino is definitely one of my favorite spots. Perhaps to excess. Great to go with a group of a few people so you can share the tapas but also a great spot to go solo and enjoy sitting at their bar. Some of my fave dishes: - Crab, avocado and chilli tostado (super refreshing!) - Lamb shoulder (so so soft and juicy) - Warm potato, caramelised onion and salt coca (amazing pizza, great carb addition to the meal) - Yellow fin tuna cruda (the spiced almonds and dressing on top are to die for!) - For dessert, chocolate terrine with olive oil and salt flake (quite salty and rich but with every mouthful you can muster, you go to heaven) My only grievance is if you go late at night (say past 9pm) they run out of certain popular menu items. Which is a shame but it's really my fault for not prioritising Tapavino's beautiful food any earlier in the evening. First there was Whiskey, then there was Tequila...now, there is Sherry?!... Bar Tapavino is a bar much like those you would expect to find in Barcelona or Madrid. Celebrating all things Spanish, their point of difference revolves around Sherry. But, never fear if Sherry is not your thing, they have plenty of Spanish wines on the menu to tempt you with. Located smack in the middle of banker territory, be prepared to rub shoulders with a suit or two on your visit. But, this is not a stuffy institution, there's a relaxed, casual, welcoming vibe and the staff will instantly make you feel at home. The downstairs bar is small and noisy and you'll be sitting elbow to elbow with fellow patrons. If you are lucky enough to score a table that is, otherwise you'll be sitting at the bar. Note: probably not the best first date restaurant, if you're looking for quiet and secluded, best look elsewhere. If you're looking for a good time, great service and authentic Spanish food and wine however, this is your place. The downstairs bar does not take bookings, it's a walk in only policy. But, upstairs, in their dining room, you are free to make a booking. The wine list is extensive and is mainly Spanish in origin. If your Spanish wine knowledge is not up to scratch however, the wait staff are more than happy to help you with your choices - simply tell them the type of wine you like, and they'll recommend one for you. I start the evening with Cava, Spains sparkling wine. The waiter recommends a dry one for me, and it's not bad at all! I find out Cava is actually the worlds most popular sparkling wine! Who knew? The food menu, is designed to be enjoyed with a glass of wine. With chefs ex Buzo and Wine Library, they've got the credentials. It's a one pager, filled with a huge selection of tapas options. In fact, everything sounds delightful and it's hard to make a choice. This is my new favorite place to go in the CBD near the Circular Quay in Sydney, Australia. A group of four of us went to Tapavino to sample the tapas and enjoy their happy hour. We ordered the Warm Marinated Olives - 'variedades españolas'; the Galician Eggplant Empanada with Rojo Picante; Chorizo Sliders with Date, Cornichon & Watercress on a Brioche Bun; the Shaved Cabbage, Manchego with Pan Rallado, Currants & Crema Dressing; the Fried Spiced Cauliflower with Avocado, Jalapeno & Ricotta; and finished with a Dulce de leche tart with Pedro ximenez cream. We all remarked that the ingredients used and the flavors created with each dish were amazing! The atmosphere was cozy and the service was friendly and attentive. Fantastic! read more
