My experience with Dr. Loos was exceptional. I came to him with one of the worst ear infections I've ever experienced and was in excruciating pain. From the moment I arrived, he recognized the severity of my condition and provided prompt, compassionate care. Dr. Loos treated me with both expertise and genuine kindness. He thoroughly explained what to expect during the healing process, and although it was hard to believe at the time because of how intense the pain was, everything unfolded exactly as he said it would. Thanks to his treatment plan and the medications he prescribed, I recovered just as he predicted. I'm incredibly grateful for the compassionate care I received. Dr. Loos is knowledgeable, caring, and truly takes the time to educate and reassure his patients. I highly recommend him to anyone in need of an outstanding ENT physician. read more

I would not recommend this place and will never return. I was overcharged for services I did not request or need. I went in specifically because my primary care doctor referred me due to frequent nosebleeds. Instead of focusing on that issue, the doctor moved me from room to room, checked unrelated areas like my ears, and then charged me for those exams without explanation or consent. The entire visit lasted less than 10 minutes, and I left with nothing more than a cream for my nose, which has not worked at all. Somehow, that brief visit resulted in a $630.40 bill, which feels completely unjustified. I called several times to get it adjusted and they just gaveme the run around. I don't understand why unnecessary exams were performed or added to the bill. This experience felt rushed, disorganized, and extremely overpriced. If you're looking for honest care and transparent billing, I strongly suggest going elsewhere. read more

We had a fantastic experience with Dr. Loos. My teen needed to see an ENT and we were able to get in sooner than expected because of a cancellation. He is smart, thorough, approachable, and considerate. My teen also needed to see an audiologist and he was able to fit her in to the audiologist's schedule right then and there. Otherwise, it could have taken weeks or months. He thought it was important and didn't want my teen to have to miss more time off from high school. I highly recommend! read more

If you have the opportunity go to another practice, I'd suggest you do that. I had a blockage in one of my ears after traveling, and was referred to this practice by One Medical where I had seen a nurse practitioner. When I arrived for my appointment I saw Dr. Benjamin Loos. Clinically, he seems to be competent, but there are plenty of competent ENTs out there, so next time I'm going to go to one of them instead. The office staff was fine, but pretty much neutral. Not rude, but not overly pleasant or friendly. In the first part of our conversation, he asks me basically what the problem is. I referenced my visit to One Medical, and he seemed puzzled. I said, 'did you have a chance to look at the referral notes?' Then he went into a long monologue about how he can't SEE the referral notes. (WHAT? That was a first for me. Even I had the referral notes, attached to the referral email, so I have a hard time believing he truly didn't have access to them.) He went on to say how he wanted to do his own workup because he's the specialist and basically implying nothing in the notes would be useful at all. (And whenever he spoke of the NP who referred me, you could just hear the eye roll in his voice.) So maybe he could see the referral notes, maybe he couldn't, but the takeaway was clearly that he had no use for or interest in them. I think to most patients it would be a little disconcerting to find that the specialist you've been referred to has not reviewed and has no knowledge of the details of why you were referred to them. In this case, the referring provider had noted--in addition to my chief complaint--some possible scarring on my eardrum that she wanted to have him check out. I wasn't even aware of that, so again, I just wanted to know that he knew about that and would make a point of looking at it. And yeah, I get it. You're a specialist. I'm duly impressed. (So why do you act like you're compensating for something?). And yes, OF COURSE you're going to do your own workup, that's how referrals work. This was just the first time I've been to a specialist who didn't review notes/have details from the referrer and conveyed disrespect for the referrer. And all of the other specialists I've seen in my life have managed to ask questions and handle everything without being an a**, so I know it can be done!) Then, he diagnosed my issue as Eustachian tube dysfunction--annoying but not serious. Perfect, that was the point--to find out what was going on and what to do about it. So he recommended Flonase and saline flushes that would eventually clear it up. (Which was also the what the NP who had referred me said, so hey--it didn't even require his vaunted expertise to know what to do.) And he made a couple of other comments about how that's why he's the expert, scoffing at how the 'possible scar tissue' the NP had noted was just ear wax and making the point again that he's the expert. Got it, dude. And guess what--the NP did exactly what she was supposed to do. She's *not* an ENT, and wasn't trying to be one. She didn't attempt to diagnose, she referred me to him for expressly that reason--to examine and conclusively diagnose. So there really were no grounds to act like she was incompetent or unqualified. And then, just because I had questioned him about not having referral notes, he said 'you seem really nervous about this though, so if you aren't patient enough to wait for that to clear it up I can prescribe steroids.' This was said not in an empathetic way, but in a very patronizing way. (And I want to note that I was calm throughout, not acting anxious or stressed--simply had pressed him a bit and expressed concern that he hadn't reviewed call notes ahead of or during the appointment. (But then, certain types of men just can't resist the 'hysterical woman' trope.) I've worked in hospital administration, and I've worked with a lot of physician personalities over the years, but I rarely dealt with anyone (even neurosurgeons and similar specialists whom you'd expect to have a lot of attitude) who came off as so condescending. I generally don't write bad reviews about anything, but I decided to make an exception for this one because it was ridiculous and I prefer to see a physician who does not act like a petulant child. (Reading the other reviews here, it seems like this guy maybe has good and bad days... I definitely caught him on an off day!) read more

Avoid this ENT at all costs; rough, rude and painful. Saw him for constant pain high in my right nostril, where I could easily see a red bump in the bathroom mirror. He said I had a deviated septum. Then he shoved the endoscopy scope (long thin tube thingy) down into the affected nostril with no warning and without the local anesthesia that is customary. It was EXCRUCIATINGLY painful and I said "Stop! that's hurting me! Then "No, you really need to STOP!" Then, as he continued pushing it in more I cried "That's NOT OK, STOP!" but he still kept pushing it in roughly. I finally started to yell and instinctively tried to push his arm away (pain 10 on a scale of 10) crying out "STOP!" the whole time. (I later learned that it can be painful when they insert past a deviated septum, yet he gave me no warning, and no anesthetic, and did not stop when I said the pain was unbearable.) No apology, no acknowledgement; he just scoped the unaffected side next - it was fine - and said "I'm done. Looks fine. There's nothing wrong with you." I said "But I'm in pain, day and night for 6 weeks now, and I can see that bump." and he replied "Well what do you want me to do? Tell me and I'll do it." I said "Umm....find out what's wrong with me?" He answered "You want a CT scan? I can do that. You want an antibiotic? You want a second opinion?" I said that yeah, maybe a second opinion might be good. He said "I'Il set you up with another doctor in the practice." But at the front they told me they'd have to see if that doctor was even taking new patients and they'd call me. They never did, and when I called back they said "A second opinion is not needed because Dr. Loos did a thorough job" and basically cancelled me. I have excellent relationships with all my other doctors, and a high tolerance for pain. This guy is a loose cannon and the practice covers for him . Avoid at all costs. read more

Very disapponting! I have been a patient for more than 10 years. I have a hole in my ear caused by a procedure that dr Loos performed, which makes me prone to ear infection. I currently have an ear infection and called to ask for a refill of my med because the prescription expired. The receptionist said that Dr Loos will not refill it because he has not seen me for more than a year. That's understandable but when i asked for the ealiest possible date i can see him the receptionis said they are booked for 30 days. It's ear infection!!! The receptionist said to just consult my PCP. Unacceptable. Other clinics would try to sneak in a patient when it urgent. The receptionist was dismissive and not helpful at all. read more

I have seen Dr. Loos twice and have had an excellent experience both times. The first time, I went to an urgent care office with an ear problem and the doctor there stuck a wire in my ear that accidentally punctured my ear canal, causing excessive bleeding. The doctor was able to get me a same day appointment with Dr. Loos who was able to take care of my ear and saved my hearing. The second time, which was yesterday, Dr. Loos was able to clear out impacted wax which caused hearing impairment. My regular doctor's office had previously tried to take care of it but with only partial removal of the wax. They actually referred me to Dr. Loos, who solved the problem within minutes. read more

Dr. Loos's office wrote a note describing me as "intemperate" for writing this review, scolding me, instead of apologizing and making it right with better service. Luckily i found someone who in insanely well educated and empathic who promptly analyzed me using a low radiation CT scan, tried natural treatment, and subsequently performed a surgery with a amazing team within two months. I can rinse the sinus infection out, and he teases away the polyps to nonexistence. An amazing stanford affiliate, and has truly made a change in my quality of life. By the way "intemperate" stopped being widely used in the late 1800s. Perhaps practices should roll with the times and needs of patients too. No future letters, please, dr. Loos. You're in the public service sphere and the public has a right to know. read more

I absolutely adore Dr. Loos! I have a small nodule on my thyroid which has to be rechecked each year, and I never mind going in to see him. Dr Loos Benjamin... Read many reviews on ENT docs and Dr Benjamin seemed to be the best of the lot... However, he was terribly unimpressive and did indeed, as was indicated prior, stuff that lite up my nose for 10 seconds which was impressive indeed at $539... I had all my medical notes, meds and questions methodically written out prior... No answers were forthcoming for ANY of my questions other than referrals for diagnostic tests and other more 'specialized' doctors... What a waste of my time and an utter joke... read more

I would 100% recommend Dr. Loos to anyone looking for an ENT doctor. He is so personable and will answer all of your questions. What a rude staff. I called to make an appointment and the attitude was so awful that I thanked her (killing her with kindness) and I have NO intention of calling back. Having had nasal congestion for a long time, I sought a referral to an ENT and wound up with Dr. Loos. I'm proud to say that was such a beneficial decision. Not only have Dr. Loos' treatment methods been effective on alleviating my congestion but he fixed up a difficult ear ailment with ease. On top of that, he's about ensuring your financial burdens are reduced, goes over all necessary options at your disposal (plus weighs pros/cons of each in an understandable way) and extols an affable disposition. I'm only knocking the office down a star due to a staffer not calling me back on a culture result (although I appreciate Dr. Loos' apology). As for a prior comment criticizing his usage of the term "friend": get over yourself. It's called a bedside manner and illustrates a medical professional's pleasant demeanor. Dr. Loos was recommended by a friend when I needed an ENT. I found Dr. Loos to be a wonderful physician who really tried to understand my needs. When I go to a specialist, I am not seeking someone to be my friend; I want to benefit from their expertise. But expertise is not enough. If a physician is incurious as Dr. Loos is, he is likely to miss symptoms, and jump to a conclusion regarding the diagnosis that is not based upon facts. I feel like Dr. Loos is following a spreadsheet, seeing symptoms to his disorder of choice that are not there, ignoring the ones that are actually present. His need to jab me in the upper arm repeatedly seemed like a way to remember his "lines". This is not acting class, it is an examining room, and there should be no script. I have a feeling that Dr. Loos deals with a lot of geriatric patients from his behavior. He treated me like I was 85 years old and feeble-minded. I am not. read more

Went to him as a referral from another dr. What a mistake and waste of time. Ended up having surgery from my third opinion who was awesome. They not only didn't follow up with me but instead called me to, once again not follow up with me, but to tell me I owed them more money for whatever procedures they way overcharged me for. I paid and let them know how rude and incompetent I thought they were and that I would not be returning. Also, the conversation, while I was in the waiting room, that they insisted on trying to get me to join along in was absolutely inappropriate and I feel that politics, religion and race have no business being spoken about with patients, let alone a new patient. The nurse, who took me back, did apologize, but I already had a bad taste in my mouth. Also, as far as the Dr. goes, I do not like being called "friend". I am not your friend and I am not 5 years old. Do not insult me or patronize me. Seriously. read more

Let me start by saying that my 1 star review has nothing to do with the doctor but rather his rude incompetent staff. 1st visit: As I'm waiting to see the Dr. I hear the front desk receptionist yelling at this elderly gentlemen to sit down and not ask any questions (red flag/bad taste) Since then over the course of a year I have tried to get them to get me approved for surgery, I have spoken to "Barbara" 3 times and each time it's the same story. Give me a week and I'll call you back to schedule your surgery (mind you insurance has already approved this twice before) a year later and I'm still waiting for a call. Needless to say I won't be going back. read more

I cannot tell you how grateful we are to Dr. Loos. I took my teenage daughter to him when she suddenly lost hearing in one ear! Dr. Loos is one of the best doctors I've had the pleasure of going to. He was easy going and put a nervous patient like myself at ease. He will go out of his way to find a solution to persistent headaches, nodules, or congested sinuses. I was apprehensive because I didn't want to resort to surgery, but ultimately I decided with the help of Dr. Loos that this would be a good decision considering my sinus issues.
