There were plenty of washers and dryers. The employee also let me know that my cloths would fit into a smaller washer just fine. She also loaned me the key to a nearby bathroom for customers only. I went in the middle of the day and had no issues waiting for machines. Great little place right by Spencer Outlet so I shopped while I waited for the washing machine to be done. I really only come to dry and the value for that is $1 for 10 min. I find that most other places in the CBD are $2 for 10 min. The trade hours are everyday until 9pm. A man who looked like a regular told me confidently that you can get in even after 9pm. Quote him, not me. I want no parts of being here near or after that time. Not for safety reasons, I just hate folding.

The prices are so affordable, yet my clothes are washed and dried within an hour. For only $12 a pop this is exceptional. This price includes both washing and drying. To cut a long story short: the landlord of my fully furnished city apartment has still not fulfilled on her promise to buy me a new washing machine as the current one is not working despite repairs. I have given up, and within good reason. I mean why own a washing machine and/or dryer when you have Melbourne City Dry Cleaners come to the rescue? Point taken. My clothes feel smooth and great to wear after a great wash and dry using commercial grade washing machines and dryers, once again for a great price. Bring a book to read; call people you need to catch up with; play games on your mobile phone or get out there and go for walks while you are waiting for your clothes to wash and dry. Remember to bring your own detergent, otherwise there is a small additional fee involved if detergent is provided to you. Ten thumbs up if I could have this capacity to do so!

So this laundromat/dry cleaner is located east in the CBD. Not too near my first place but the tram is free round trip. The place is small, I counted maybe ten dryers and ten washers. I'm only interested in drying and you currently get ten minutes for $2. The layout is all wrong but that's due to space. A bench seat is located in front of the washers and if it's packed you'll have to musical chair it or stand. I'm not griping just giving the facts. There is also one high folding table. In all fairness I don't think this place is ever packed but in my visit they had steady foot traffic for dry cleaning. As long as I stay in the CBD this is my spot. Again, hang dry is for the birds.

Until I found Soap Bar, I had been going round…read moresupermarkets and bottle shops like a hobo begging for them to exchange notes for $1 coins and pretending not to notice 'DO NOT ASK FOR CHANGE FOR LAUNDROMAT AS REFUSAL MAY OFFEND'. Sometimes the manager at IGA would help out a brother with some coin because I regularly do the family shopping there. But he would tsk tsk and remark that the laundromat should get their own change machine. Once I got enough coins, I would try to negotiate the faulty coin collectors at the laundromat (some machines only took $1s, others only $2s -- but for some reason the lady who owned the place never put up any signs labeling which was which. I think she might have made a tidy side business in stuck coins.) Once my clothes were washed I'd sometimes be pulling them out of the machine only to find my hands coated in sticky soap paste -- yep, that's right, the machine washed so poorly it didn't even move the soap from its original point of deposit into the clothes. Words similar to 'sit' and 'puck' would be muttered under my breath. Of course there was nowhere to rinse your hands. Then I found Soap Bar. The machines are not only cheaper than the rubbish laundromat ($3 per load -- Though the smallest machines are double load, so $6 minimum investment), the equipment is all brand new. And the owners care about graphic design and ambience: the massive mirrored chrome '50s-style 'automatic' sign is a beauty to behold. AND THERE IS A FRICKING CHANGE MACHINE THAT WORKS!! And, even more amazingly, should you not have come even packing notes, there is an ATM. And EVEN more amazingly, if you are totes gen-Y or Z or whatever we're up to now, you can pay for the machines with Paypal. FRICKIN PAYPAL. The machines are all IP, baby. Oh. And there is an air hockey table. And Jenga blocks to play with if they are your thing. There is an 'honesty bar' of soap powder you can scoop out at will for a coin drop of $1 -- no fixed (or policed, anyway) quantity. AND THERE IS FREE WIFI SO YOU CAN NETFLIX AND CHILL* WHILE YOUR WASHING IS GOING WITHOUT BLOWING YOUR DATA PLAN. * Chill in yr he strictly platonic laundromatic plain English sense And there is a sign up indicating that a waffle and coffee cafe will be coming soon at the front of the laundromat. And there is a TAP and a HAND DRYER for those soap exposure moments. Never. Going. Anywhere. Else.
