There is also a small walking loop (I'd guess about a quarter of a mile loop) with some outdoor fitness equipment along the loop and a small grassy field on the interior of the loop. The bathrooms were clean and well-kept. The parking lot is small but so is the park. I'm glad we found this park, as my kids enjoyed the play structure, which I would say is the main feature of this park. And since it's a small park, it wasn't very crowded.

The park also has a playground, covered area, tennis courts, and a baseball field. I've seen people host a party under the covered area so it's perfect for outside events when the weather is nice. During the summer, City of Raleigh Parks & Rec will host a free Zumba class every week.

The first thing that made an impression on me about this park is the picturesque setting: tall trees pine and oak trees surround you in this quaintly located park right down the street from Cary Towne Center. The park is one unit, but is nicely sectioned into four segments: tennis courts (5 and lightened), basketball court (2 slabs), toddler playground (two bucket swings, 2 slides, 'spring animals' and play structures) and 5+ playground (two swings, modern merry-go-round, 3 slides, seesaw and play structure). The park is clean, has a bathroom on site and filtered water stations (even a bottle filler by the tennis courts). Picnic tables and benches make it the perfect spot for a picnic as well and there's plenty of parking. The only thing I'd point out is that the park is situated close to Walnut Street, although the park is located in a slope, so any kids getting close to the street would have to go up an incline. But be wary if your kid is a climber or quick on their feet. There are large trees that would block any potential car intruders. Overall, for the park scene in the triangle, Dunham's quiet and serene atmosphere mixed with all its amenities make it one of the winners in my book.

I brought kids I babysit to softball practice on the diamond at Annie Jones Park, and one was too young to play. We took him over to the playground, which has a lot of great features for small children! It is right across from the baseball diamond, and very convenient for families who need to multitask with many children. There are play houses, swings, a sandbox, stationary cars/planes-- a young kid's dream! I also liked how secluded the park is. Yes, it's in the middle of Cary/Morrisville area, but it seems to be under the radar. I was surprised that there were only about 4 other families there. Super great place to take kids if you're babysitting or just need to get your own up and moving!

Surprisingly, the equipment was not slippery in the rain. A lot of the slides were tube slides so we just wiped down the bottom of them. There is a .5 mike path around a pond adjacent to the park. There are also three picnic tables next to the playground. A small dedicated parking lot with about 25 spots is adjacent. At this time, there is no bathroom available. The playground itself is cute and well thought out. It is a Train theme and the rubbery ground has some printed train tracks and other related pictures. There are three structures -- one for younger children, one for older children, and one for climbing. There are also two kid swings (no infant swings) and one circle swing more than one child can play on. There is no accessible swing in this playground. There's a small fake pond with a crawling log and a stone to climb. Overall, it's a nice playground with good, new equipment. There's a spinning cage to play in for the sensory inclined. There's a "ticket window" for some imaginative play, as well as a small place to sit with a table inside the play area itself. The playground is not fenced but is adjacent to a fenced soccer field. Equipment was hot in the hot summer sun, but that is to be expected when it is 95+ degrees out. The playground is small but has a lot to do, and it would be easy to keep an eye on more than one child at the same time in the space. Lack of a bathroom is annoying, but another excuse to go grab a coffee at the Wake zone then come back to let the kids play more. I look forward to the future greenway connection to Davis Drive playground.

There is a small playground for the kids with slides, swings, and climbing equipment. You will also find a basketball court. This gorgeous park includes the Greenway which crosses over Route 1/64 and connects to Marla Dorrel Park. Both parks have playgrounds and the walk across the bridge is something the kids seem to really enjoy. How exhilarating it must be to stand over a busy 8-lane highway with traffic whizzing underneath you when you are only 3 feet tall! Especially if you can elicit truck honking with some hefty fist pumps! The water fountains offer filtered water and there is even one placed at ground level for thirsty pets. Overall, a great little park to get your play on and your creative juices flowing!

After visiting the current landfill earlier this month. I decided to visit a former landfill. Green…read moreHills County Park is on the land that was used as a landfill to 2008. In 2010 it was been transformed to a park and you can climb the hill to get to the top of the landfill to see view of Wake Forest and Downtown Raleigh. If you look closely you can see how much the landfill has shrunk from 2008 as there is a white line on a pipe. The gas produced from the landfill goes to a nearby pharmaceutical company and that company provides nitrogen for the park. Along the walk up the gravel trail to the top there are pictures of items and on the back it tells you how long it takes for them item to break down. A tin can will take about 50 years to break down and plastic jugs were a million years to break down. Plastic water bottles can take 450 years to break down. So many items in the landfill could have been recycled so learning those numbers makes me rethink how much trash I am producing. You can drive around the hill in one direction as one lane is for bicycles and pedestrians and the other for vehicles. There is a playground; a shelter and restrooms available. This is a nice park and I will return and walk more tails.
