I visited Laurel Hills today while attending the city's Wake County Genealogical Society Find Your Family History Event & Holistic Wellness Expo. I've visited years ago while bringing my daughter to the playground. The playground is very modern here. A lovely place for young children. They also have several basketball courts and a nice gazebo picnic area. The Genealogy event was very informative. Staff were very engaged and helpful. Very well organized. The playground equipment is well-maintained and suited for all ages, with plenty of swings, slides, and climbing structures that kept my kids entertained for hours. The area was clean, with lots of shaded spots and benches for parents to relax while keeping an eye on the little ones. There were also picnic tables and ample green space, which made it easy to enjoy a snack or quick lunch. Plus, the park had restrooms and drinking fountains nearby , which were a much-needed convenience on our long drive. My family came to this park to kill some time while we waited for my grandma's exercise class to be done. This place is HUGE and so cute for kids. They have a massive jungle gym, sandbox, swings, etc. They also have a baseball field, basketball field and a trail to walk. I'd say if you're kids are smaller, be prepared to follow them around everywhere because it's big enough to easily lose them. Usually in an enclosed space, I'm cool with letting my child loose and finding me but I have anxiety so i couldn't do it in this open area. They have a lot of cool areas for kids to climb and the swings were probably the highlight of my daughter's day. It's a great place to take your kids to run their energy out or just to have some family time. read more

Wow! I found this park by googling and had been excited to take my daughter here based off reviews. It is a park catered to kids age 5-12yrs old. It is very spacious and they have trails for walking and a pond. It's a great place to walk and or just relax on a bench while the kids play. There is a lot to do for kids at this park, so I can't imagine your child becoming easily bored. They even have a zip line that is very popular, but the line moves quickly. The park was busy but there is lot of space, so it didn't feel as though you were standing on top of each other. They have a few pavilions and plenty of picnic tables if you wanted to bring lunch to the park. I will definitely be coming back here. My daughter (9) and her friend (10) had the time of their life! read more

The play area is HUGE! It looks like I would have had a lot of fun as a kid. There's a large sand pit area with scoopers and shovels. This ride on swing and rope thing, the line was long and my daughter is too small for it. I saw several swings but didn't go near them the playground itself was enough. My only issue was I don't think it's a great park for toddlers. There's an area for 2-5 and it's a joke no one was near it. My daughter is 2 and she did have fun but was bumped into and knocked over several times by the other kids running. I'm not trying to sound like that parent mad that kids bumped over my child at a park, that's what they're supposed to do I just didn't like the area designated for the toddlers and think it could be better. read more

Northwest Raleigh, outside the 440 perimeter, this large park is highly wheelchair accessible. What? Yes. Great to see the parks system investing in that. The park has a very large community center, which includes a gym, meeting room, studio and even a warming kitchen if you're thinking of catering. Outside, two basketball fields (not lit), two baseball fields (300 feet to the fence!) and a large soccer/football field. My two daughters (3 and 6 years old) love coming to Laurel Hills Park because the playground is so huge and has lots of different things to play with. They especially like the "zip lines." On nice days, the playground can be pretty crowded, but because it is so large and there are plenty of different areas to play in, it doesn't feel overly packed. There are outdoor basketball courts near the parking lot, and some greenways to walk along as well. read more

What a great park in Raleigh! Not sure how this spot hadn't come across my radar before. The playground is currently closed! This was of course a huge disappointment to my two years old who didn't understand why he couldn't go beyond the fence. Not sure when the playground is opening back up, but my guess is soon since the resurfacing looked done. That playground looked pretty awesome, I can't wait to check it out!! The park has a great pond in the back for little ones to try and spot fish from the edge. My son also enjoyed the wooden walkway along the pond and through the back of the park. There is a stream you can follow as you walk. It's not huge, but plenty big for a toddler. Dogs are welcome on all the walking paths, just not on the playground. Quite a few basketball courts and a baseball field are part of this park too. read more

We love Laurel Hills Park! But what we love most is that it's wheelchair accessible and open to everyone. When I first heard about it I went to the grand opening and I was thoroughly impressed. I've heard people say they loved the old wood park but I didn't get a chance to see that one. The park is literally huge! Like so big. It's almost one of those things where you if you have one than 1 child it can be overwhelming especially if you are by yourself. There a play area, a basketball court; which we get a lot of use out of (my son loves basketball) you can let the goal down too for the littles. There is a swing and Some other cool things to play on. I feel like the park is geared towards bigger children, unless you are roaming around keeping up with your small child. The parking is great because the park is connected to a community center there is ample amounts of parking space. Overall we love Laurel Park it's the perfect place to get all of your child's energy out. read more

I'm here for predominantly the playground, but the ball fields, ball courts, small pond, and short walking trails are a bonus too. I haven't been in the community center, so no comment there. But back to the playground- great stuff! It's designed for all ages and capabilities from step free entry, to swaying couch swing, to the sand pit, to many types of swings and slides, and traditional monkeybar like structures. The ground under the main play area is lined with the slightly bouncy composite rubber material. I love going for our little one to watch older kids and play with the music maker items, swing, and sand. So far this is the best playground I've found around! read more

My toddler loves this park, which is also known as Sassafras Playground. We come here to get my toddler's energy out and then head to the mall which is 5 min away, so it's beautiful - as in, my toddler sits in the stroller for the mall afterwards. It does get crowded but because the playground is so large and there's a lot to do (with ample seating for parents), it usually goes pretty smoothly even when there's a birthday party going on. Unlike playgrounds where older kids tend to run amuck, there tends to be a lot of room to move around so my toddler doesn't get quite as distracted in trying to play with the older crowd. Families tend to be overall respectful and with the wind-y layout, you get the village vibe without being on top of each other :) read more

This isnt so much a review of the park per se as it is the NC election volunteers and the accessibility afforded at the park for folks with disabilities. I had been trying to vote early at Lake Lynn however I seriously hurt my knee and they didnt have an easy access. The lines were always super long so I couldnt stand long. I decided to choose another location and went to Laurel Hills. I asked one of the volunteers if there were a chance I could park close because of my injury. The wonderful volunteers went even further...they told me to pull in to curbside voting. I was so grateful I could have cried. I had planned on a painful wait but I was willing to because of how important this election is. The wonderful volunteer got my ballot and then submitted it all while I was able to stay in my car. She was my proxy and my angel. I am eternally grateful to them. The park itself seemed really cute. The parking was ample and there was a sort of playground for kids. I've heard that there are some trails and when my knee heals I wouldn't mind driving over and enjoying them. read more

This playground is AWESOME!!!! I brought my 18 month-old and 3 year-old here and they LOVED IT! Even at 8 months pregnant, I was able to climb around with them! There are so many areas to play and I appreciated the covered areas as well, as the sun was getting quite hot. I liked how the found cover was a rubberized mat (as opposed to those messy wood chips like many other play grounds have). Restrooms are in the community center. Can't wait to come back! read more

Our family loves this park! The playground is full of fun things to do, including a sand area, swings, slides of varying heights, and all sorts of things to climb (various ropes, steps, and even a sort of rock climbing-like wall). And through out the playground set, there are fun little activities to do - turning wheels and cogs, ringing bells, and even a wall that has braille for you to learn. I particularly like it because the playground equipment is big/roomy enough for the parents to follow the children around. Since my 18 month old isn't quite big enough to go around on his own without a major disaster happening, I don't feel so bad when accompanying him since there is plenty of room for everyone. Also, there are huge umbrellas above some of the playground equipment, so it protects from the heat and sun more than most playgrounds. I also like that there is a smaller playground area for the toddler kids. During the times that we have been, hardly anyone plays there for long so it is a great way for my kid to warm up to being around so many bigger kids. This is currently our go-to playground and I'm sure it will stay that way for the foreseeable future. read more

Love this place, it's colorful and offers slides of all sizes, swings, sandbox play as well as a cute Zipline for kids. There is an array of things to do here, basketball courts (for adults and children), baseball field, the park itself has many options for the children (sandbox, rocking boats, zip lines, swings, and much much more) this park did not disappoint. This park is huge! There really is something for everyone here. It's almost like a kiddie amusement park. They had ziplines, sand area, tons of climbing, rocking features and awesome sensory and textures. There was a bunch of people when we went but because of the layout and how big and spaced everything was it didn't feel "packed" like some other wake county Parks can get. Nice park, and people rave about it and how it's the best around. Gobs of fun if you're a kid. But the playground is hot hot hot in the sun - those dinky little sun shades don't help much. Not really a nice place to hang out if you're a grownup. Attractive plants and trees around, but no shade - so irksome. Also, I wish there was somewhere to sit at the mixed use field (past the baseball field). And why are there are always people handing out religious literature at the entrance? Overall, 4 or even 5 stars if you're a kid or need accessibility, otherwise I'm just going to have to give it a grumpy 3 stars, mostly due to lack of tree cover. read more

One of the best playgrounds in Raleigh although there is one very big inconvenience that could be easily fixed. When you have a toddler who is being potty trained and she gives you that urgent gesture that means she needs to pee, it's a Very Very long walk to the facilities. If a paved path was located where it needs to be, to make as quick a trip as possible, it would be a hugh improvement. People have made paths through the woods trying to find a more direct route. Also the addition of more water fountains would sure help too. read more

We've only explored the kids playground, but it is amazing. Like another person mentioned, this is what kid's playgrounds aspire to be. While there is an area for kids 0-2, if they can get up stairs, this area probably won't interest them too much. Thankfully most of the playground is navigable for adults chasing their climbers around. If you need a good place to wear your little one out before nap time, bring them to Laurel Hills park. read more

Elevated paths are interspersed with opening in the sides that are meant for entrance of climbing kids, including stairs and climbing grips--too steep for easy, safe kid exit for the very young toddler.
