The Community Center is very well kept and modern. It also features a Teen Zone for teens 13-17. They have activity rooms, a video game room, gym and indoor basketball court. We attended the Teen Hang Out event Friday night and the staff was excellent. Everyone was very welcoming and engaged very well with the teens. My daughter enjoys basketball so she spent a lot of time in the gym doing a small tournament and in the video game room. I appreciate how Raleigh Parks Dept invests in their parks and rec centers. I just wish they had Teen Zones in NorthWest Raleigh. We have to drive 25 minutes in traffic to visit teen zones like Saint Monica, Green Road and Tarboro. It would be fair if Brier Creek or Millbrook had a Teen Zone. Teenagers need a safe space where they can gather and feel supported and appreciated.

Other than that ball game going on, the park has a large picnic shelter located next to the volleyball and tennis courts. There is a concrete-surface basketball court, four lighted tennis courts and two lighted sand volleyball courts. There are two baseball fields (the larger one is 350 feet to the fence!) and a woodchip-surface playground for ages 5 to 12. The walking trail was fine, clean, and a little hilly. There were a lot of people and well-behaved pups on leashes enjoying the beautiful weather. However, the actual paths were covered in a thick carpet of pine needles, so people were slipping and sliding everywhere (in dry conditions). I would think there's a way for trees to be pruned so as to provide for a safer walking trail (see Lake Lynn's trail for an example). My primary issue was with the new playground. Whoever designed and selected it does not have children. And has never been around children. I think the only kids who would enjoy it are 8 year olds without their parents nearby to stop them from climbing to the top of the structures and jumping off. The floor is that rubberized mat, which is nice. There's a large swing for multiple kids to use, which is fine but often not super popular. No regular or baby swings, which is a bummer. The structure for little kids is barely adequate - basically just a couple of platforms and a spinning toy that seemed to contain trash and a couple of balls. No slides, covers, puzzles.... really anything interesting. I'm not sure if the play structure is more an abomination or an art piece not meant to be played with, but it's certainly bizarre. The only slide has NO sides to prevent one from falling - it's just a steep piece of metal designed to cause harm. The other thing that looks like a slide from behind is for climbing, and has a railing straight down the middle. Why not on the side? I cannot explain. There are lots of rope webs for climbing, which will prove fun for some kids. But the platforms are not practical for standing or climbing, and it's mostly simply an unusable hazard.

I love these because it is exciting for children and engaging while also encouraging literacy and movement during family time. There is so much to do here. Apparently it's the first rec center in Raleigh with an indoor playground and rock climbing wall. They offer a number of programs, camps, and rental options as well. They're closed on Sundays.

There is a .5 mike path around a pond adjacent to the park. There are also three picnic tables next to the playground. A small dedicated parking lot with about 25 spots is adjacent. At this time, there is no bathroom available. The playground itself is cute and well thought out. It is a Train theme and the rubbery ground has some printed train tracks and other related pictures. There are three structures -- one for younger children, one for older children, and one for climbing. There are also two kid swings (no infant swings) and one circle swing more than one child can play on. There is no accessible swing in this playground. There's a small fake pond with a crawling log and a stone to climb. Overall, it's a nice playground with good, new equipment. There's a spinning cage to play in for the sensory inclined. There's a "ticket window" for some imaginative play, as well as a small place to sit with a table inside the play area itself. The playground is not fenced but is adjacent to a fenced soccer field. Equipment was hot in the hot summer sun, but that is to be expected when it is 95+ degrees out. The playground is small but has a lot to do, and it would be easy to keep an eye on more than one child at the same time in the space. Lack of a bathroom is annoying, but another excuse to go grab a coffee at the Wake zone then come back to let the kids play more. I look forward to the future greenway connection to Davis Drive playground.

There is also a small walking loop (I'd guess about a quarter of a mile loop) with some outdoor fitness equipment along the loop and a small grassy field on the interior of the loop. The bathrooms were clean and well-kept. The parking lot is small but so is the park. I'm glad we found this park, as my kids enjoyed the play structure, which I would say is the main feature of this park. And since it's a small park, it wasn't very crowded.
