I was on a camping trip to the area and met up with some of my Gainesvillian cousins for breakfast here. The self serve - cafeteria style serving line brought back memories of places my parents would take us. There was a WIDE variety of choices on the serving line and many smiles along the way with the workers. The relaxed - hometown atmosphere along with the great food and engaging staff made for a wonderful morning. We've already started planning on another trip here camping next year and we WILL meet again here for another BIG family breakfast! read more

We arrived for breakfast at 10:15am. The sign outside says breakfast end at 10:45am. We went in they were removing the breakfast food before we get to them. We had to tell the lady who handles the driveway orders what we want. She was not friendly at all. The food was very poor. We should have noticed not many people eating there at this small Longstreet. We should walkout by then. We made a mistake trusting this small restaurant would be as good as other large Longstreet restaurant but it is not. People in the kitchen does not care and not friendly. I wish the owner would just show up and see for himself how this small restaurant is doing and the food. I would never come to this small restaurant ever again but go to the larger Longstreet restaurant because they have never failed me and my wife there every time. read more

Country cooking served alacart and individually priced. Amazing salad bar, I loved the homemade ranch dressing. Today I had coleslaw, fried chicken, steamed cabbage and the best cornbread I've had in a while. Will definitely be back. The line was long but moved very quickly. read more

On Tuesday I ate dinner at Longstreet I order bake fish salad and sweet potato while eating I felt a hard piece of what I thought was oat topping from sweet potato stuck to my braces..I brought food back immediately because I was far from location I was instructed to talk to owner Tim next day... Food was just barely edible. Floor was just washed so very wet, almost fell. Yet, floor was still sticky. Cafeteria style service.

Every time I've been to Longstreet Cafe, it's always been good food! Cafeteria style southern food. When you walk in, you grab the food you want and seat you yourself. Caution: you would expect the pricing to be cheaper because of the style of food, but it's not. It's not overly pricey in my opinion but it is on the high side by the time you choose all your food al la carte. It's worth the price to me but just don't expect it to be cheap. My last visit I dropped in on Saturday morning and ordered a chicken, egg and cheese biscuit with a side of hash browns to go. Chicken is well seasoned, fried egg was perfectly cooked and the hash browns!!! (Waffle House can't compete with them....except for all the optional toppings they have.) Love this place! I came here this morning not knowing why i couldn't find a menu a menu online... bc its a full blown breakfast bar in the morning! Everyone there is very nice and respectful and accommodating. The man working the register with black hair came around and helped me bag my items up bc my hands were full and then added silverware and napkins to my bag. As for the food, the scramble eggs are great the cheesy grits as well. I got the country fried steak with gravy on top and it is literally so tender im amazed. The apple compote is delicious as well. I cannot believe that ive known about them for almost 3 years and never ate here before. Also priced very reasonably i got all of that plus a chicken tender, hashbrowns, and a few cuts of ham in my platter with my husband's bacon egg and cheese on a biscuit and a large sweet tea for $18. This place is a hidden gem!!! If you want delicious, flavorful, good old southern cooking go here!! Service is cafeteria style, meats and vegetables, also a fresh salad bar. I had the country fried steak with brown gravy, fried chicken, green beans and macaroni and cheese. Clearly all the locals frequent here and the staff is so friendly. I met a friend for breakfast today and the food was very good. The staff was very friendly. My friend told me about their 'secret' catering honey mustard they store in the back. Its was delicious. The only reason why I gave it four stars is because the prices where a little high. read more

Cafeteria Style Breakfast. Southern food for sure. This is the first place I had for breakfast when I was Gainesville. Grits. Yum Eggs. A little runny. Bacon. Perfect Battered Bacon? Different. never had it before. a little salty. Potatoes. Alright could've been cooked longer. Hashbrowns. Could've been cooked slower so they weren't burnt on the outside and more cooked on this inside. I will return for lunch or dinner as I've heard good reviews Staff is always pleasant. Super polite and country. Surprised to see the 10 commandments on my coffee cup. Place is always full of cops and sheriff in the mornings it seems so don't visit if you're on the run!:) Would like to go back and try the biscuits they will make you a biscuit breakfast sandwhich if you request. read more

We must have come at the wrong time (7:00)because the food was nasty. The gravy looked like it had a crust on it from sitting so long. The chicken was very greasy. The candied sweet potatoes had WAY too much ginger in them! The green beans were over done. The macaroni and cheese was tasteless. And it cost almost $20! Not a good experience. In town for car service and wanted a bite to eat. I love cafe style food and tried Longstreet. It's an ala carte style buffet, grab your food as you walk in. I was warned about the price of food before going or I might have been in for a big surprise. The food seemed separated from from what actually goes together and the hash browns were soft and greasy. Upon eating what I did select, it wasn't very tasty not to mention it was cold. Lots of traffic here but food was subpar. read more

As of this trip, I can finally say I've finally been to both Longstreet Cafe locations. Puts Ryan's and OCB to big shame, and beats Golden Corral(don't hate you GC, and since you at least didn't plunge in quality unlike Ryan's/OCB). And of course, I'd pick them over Cracker Barrel too. Great meal, and I can't think of a single thing wrong here. Well actually, it'd be nice if they could serve biscuits and sausage also for lunch, besides during breakfast hours. And why I passed over something that looked like peach cobbler for dessert, I'll never know. Will let the biscuits and sausage factor slide, since I still love Longstreet as much as ever. read more

Some nice people from church brought me Longstreet's menu last Sunday because they were well aware that where good Southern cooking is, I want to be pronto. Since Ann and I were going to have "fun in court" at the Federal Building in Gainesville at 3PM, we decided to get there early and try out the vittles. The fried chicken tenders are amazing, the butter peas are little pearls of tongue-wagging goodness, the pole beans made my teeth whistle "Dixie", the turnips were mule-pullin' good, and the cawn breyad was made to sop pot likker with. Table wine of the South (iced tea) was a perfect belly washer. No room for deezert! This is the newer of two locations, and is kinda small, so you'd best come early or late. PS: The other parties didn't even show for court, so we won by default. I guess they heard we were gonna show up well fortified. Fried pork chops next go 'round! read more

This is a wonderful, locally owned and ran restaurant. All of the staff is friendly and the food is always delicious. I saw another review stating that the food was cold, and that blows me away. I can't recall there being a time when there wasn't a line and all of the trays being constantly refilled. Their breakfast, lunch, and dinner is always good. We dine in or take out at Longstreets, the drive is about 25 minutes one way, but not anymore. July 12, 2019, we ordered take out..$40.00 worth, 3 items were left out, at $2.00. each. The white gravy was like pouring milk and clumps of flour mixed in. The sweet potato casserole had an oat topping in clumps without proper seasoning, and the Mac & cheese was overcooked. I think the cooks, servers, and management need to be trained properly or cut loose. We won't recommend Longstreets or be back to eat. I can get far better food elsewhere and at a lower price. read more

I love home-cooked food. This restaurant serves great food daily. I love the fried chicken, mashed potatoes, and especially the black eye peas and cornbread on Thursdays. Longstreet has always been a Gainesville staple and there aren't many other restaurants around offering "home cooking". If only Loretta's or Rabbit town weren't on the opposite sides of town.. I would definitely start going there. Let's start with the prices.... I could order the same thing every day and every day I'll pay a different price. I guess what you pay depends on which employee rings you up and what mood they're in that day. Like the other reviews, the prices are almost shocking for what you're getting. But you can't expect anything else from a small town restaurant that assumes everyone will just take it and pay up. Let's end with the employees.. two word: smart as*es. I will never understand why people who don't like interacting with the public take up jobs where they deal with customers. While taking my order, the woman that was running the drive-thru couldn't help herself and had to make sneering comments regarding my order AND did the same with the order behind me. WE ORDERED WHAT WE ORDERED! We ordered how we wanted our order to be. DO YOUR JOB, and take the order! REFRAINING from your side comments! This experience definitely left a bad taste in my mouth. Very disappointing! Was told I should check this place out. Took my wife and 2 boys there today for breakfast. Not a good experience at all. Everything was borderline cold. Guess they were more focused on running through what was left from bfast at 10:05, so they could focus on lunch. A waste of $35 dollars. Can't say I'd try it again or recommend. read more

I think all the allure and positive reviews must be for the other location. Tried the Pearl Nix location (in between Zaxbys and Burger King) and was not impressed. For two people to eat lunch I did not expect it to be as expensive as it was. The food was mushy, possibly warmed for too long, but it was room temperature as we ate. I have been going to Longstreet Cafe for various meals over the past 15 years and today will be the last one. My wife and I purchased a booster card from a local high school to be used for a BOGO sausage biscuit. Today was the day we decided to visit the Longstreet Cafe on Pearl Nix Pkwy. My wife and I purchased not only the sausage biscuits, but added gravy, eggs, another side and beverages. When we got to the register the lady said we could not use the coupon because my wife put gravy on her biscuit. This was a very frustrating moment since a sausage biscuit costs 2.35 and biscuit and gravy costs 2.35 plus 1.25 for the sausage. I asked why they could just discount the cost of the 2.35 since that would be the normal discount and she said that they are very particular about things. Had we known the position of the food on her plate would dictate our ability to use a coupon we bought then we would have put the gravy in a separate dish. It's disappointing to think that Longstreet Cafe will loose years worth of revenue from me and my family over a coupon they issued and decided not to take. Going forward we will just visit Stan's or Chick-fil-a, both of those companies seem to appreciate their customers more. read more

Just had breakfast from their and it was awesome. It was like having home cooking. They had a variety of food out. My favorite was their grits. The staff is friendly and helpful. Their prices are very good as well. The building and the outside was clean and so where the restrooms. This is definitely a good place for breakfast. You know what you are getting going here instead of the other Longstreet of Riverside. The food is not nearly as good and service at the Riverside Longstreet is MUCH better. Thats ok because it is on my way to work so i stop and go in to get a to go plate. The cashier who is never at her station when i get there to pay comes over with her drink in her hands, as i am trying to wrestle some napkins out of the napkin holder that someone loaded wrong. She sits her drink down behind the napkin holder that i cant get a napkins out of. So the holder moves as im a fighting with it and knocks her drink off the counter. You'd have thought i spit in her face. She was just sitting there shaking her head like i had done something terrible. Got a smart ellicky tone to her voice and said i'll just get that. If you want to get the napkins dont put them in a spot in the line where it looks like i should get them. She then proceeds to charge me almost 2 more dollars than i usually have to pay for my meal. I go almost everyday and get the same thing every day. Its usually just over $5 but this time it was over $7. I apologized more than a couple times and even asked if i could help her clean it up but was made to feel like a jerk because i knocked her drink off that she shouldnt even have had to begin with. I dont want to be a regular and a place that will treat you that way on top of the food being subpar just out of convenience to me. I'll look for other places read more

This is based on a visit on Saturday 1/30. LSC is a staple in the Gainesville area. They've been open for years. This is a meat & vegetable place or country cooking may be what you call it. I think they thrive because there's only a few of this types of restaurants in town. The food is just okay. It's really not my issue with the place. My problem is that they are extremely pricey for what they do, and I'm talking about either of the locations. Pricing is never consistent. I could eat the same thing there 3 days in a row and it would most likely be a different price each time. Yesterday I went for breakfast. I had cheese eggs, bacon, grits, and a biscuit. The person with me shad the same only with a piece of tenderloin. We also got two large teas in to-go cups. My total bill was $22! I went through the receipt when I got home and almost lost it when I saw they charged $1.50 each for cheese as an extra topping on the eggs. I don't visit often because of the pricing, but it was crowded everywhere else yesterday so we gave it a shot, but I just don't see going back based on the cost. There are other options. read more
