Blanca and Janet are the best and have worked here for many years. The owners, Steven and Phillip, are also incredibly nice. Janet has been in the furniture biz her whole life and formerly owned Sussan Furniture. You also need to visit at Christmas. Steven custom decorates Christmas trees that you just have to see. Upon entering, I noticed a short Caucasian man near the Alabama Street entrance. At first, he looked like a regular shopper, but I quickly recognized him as the owner from previous store publications. What unsettled me immediately was seeing him peering into my Target bag, as if trying to assess what I had purchased. Perhaps he didn't realize I was watching him while he was watching me. As I walked through the store, the sense of being surveilled intensified. Every time I turned around, the owner was directly behind me. I also observed him on the phone, and shortly after, a man in a yellow shirt and khaki pants began following me as well. When I moved, he moved. When I paused, he pretended to rearrange items on the shelf. The behavior was blatantly obvious and deeply uncomfortable. To ensure I wasn't imagining things, I intentionally changed directions yet both men continued mirroring my movements. When I finally confronted one of them and asked, "Sir, are you following me?" he nervously replied, "No, no, no," even though the truth was painfully clear. This message is directed to the owner: Racial profiling your customers is unacceptable, demeaning, and profoundly unprofessional. I have patronized this store many times, and to be treated this way is not only insulting it is disappointing beyond words. PS: People of color spend money too.

The designers we have worked with have been extraordinarily helpful and kind. They have walked us through different possibilities with their neat design software. We ended up with pieces we cherish and the delivery fee was usually waived or low. We did have one hiccup with a smaller item not having all the required parts but one call to Ballard customer service and it was handled by a very genteel, sweet customer service rep. Really great store where we enjoy shopping! Ballard often has sales, so I recommend keeping an eye out and going in at strategic times of year. One of our visits was right before a seasonal change and our designer offered us a floor model at a discount! Also, the catalogs and website are great resources! Some items may be overpriced, but we have found the quality of our purchases to be fair for the prices we have paid so far. I suggest checking out their website first before coming in and letting the designers know your limits. We never felt looked down upon for being clear with the designers about our budget or tastes. Lastly, the staff at this location have consistently been welcoming and kind. I generally prefer to enjoying browsing on my own and approaching staff once I have a decision or a question. However, I appreciate that the staff/ designers always ask if they may help or simply greet me warmly. A small display of sincere effort means a lot to so many folks in the digital age. Keep it up!

A few days ago I purchased a large ceramic rabbit at this store to place in an assisted living. It cost 100 dollars. When I got home from the store, I picked the rabbit up by its head and the head broke off. I went back to the store and spoke with the store manager who told me her name was Debbie. I asked if they would replace the rabbit or at least give me a discount on a new one. Debbie told me "too bad so sad". She said there was nothing they could do to help me out. Debbie was so hostile and rude to me. I told Debbie that I have been a customer of At-Home for years and have spent a lot of money there. She told me "that's too bad." It's no wonder At-home had to file for bankruptcy last year when they have managers that are rude and not the least bit customer friendly. I still am shocked out how rude Debbie was to me.
