    Beer at the bar

Very lively, lots of space. They had live music the Saturday we were there. They have plenty of beer selections and also cider. Cheese shop that sells snacks and small bites. Food truck outside. Well put together place. Service was excellent, we sat at the bar and had conversation with the bartender the whole time.

    Longmire Springs West Coast IPA!

Longmire Springs Brewing is a brand new brewery that opened up in Packwood earlier this summer. The owners used to have Popoluxe Brewing in the Ballard Brewery District in Seattle for a long time and it's great to see them back. The beer and concepts are different that Popluxe, that is for sure which I can appreciate as this brewery can blossom out on it's own. The taproom is great. It's a nice, large space with plenty of elbow room! The beer I had here was the Longmire Springs West Coast IPA. With this IPA the flavors were hoppiness, floral and piney notes with a clean snap towards the end. Good first time outing here. They also have guest taps of other nearby breweries which is a nice bonus as well! Although Packwood isn't a very large town at all there is enough tourism here going to Mount Rainier to support two breweries which is what the town has which I find very exciting!

Really good beer. Did not try anything from the Thai food cart they had but happy they offered food! Really cool spot with amazing views. Loved how it was dog and family friendly. Would definitely go back.

I have never seen such great wooden architecture before in my life. There are enough seats to host large events as well as many games and books to enjoy. What's great about this place is that they have non-alcoholic beer as well as a variety of craft brewery. The bartender, Jason, was very helpful in deciding which beer to try. If you get a chance to come here, I highly recommend ordering: -Self Care "Scherler Easiest Lager" (N/A): very light, hoppy, tastes like a normal IPA, but without the buzz. It is a bit watered down in opinion, but I don't mind it. -Hourglass IIPA (8.5%): An Imperial IPA with strong pine and orange flavors, a little bitter, crisp, and fresh. Better than your typical lager. -Huckleberry Cider (6.4%): sweet, and beautiful color, a great choice for cider lovers. -"Virgin" Bloody Mary: your typical Mary, but without the booze, and a splash of Yucatán Habanero hot sauce. You can heat it up as much as you want with their variety of sauces. Packwood Brewery is a must try for any hikers or vacationers. Grab a pint, sit back, and relax after a very tiring adventure!

The tacos were a 10 out of 10, the fire pit was awesome outside and I note several little improvements wherever I look. Under the old ownership, things seemed to be slipping toward the end, but all that is fixed now. I haven't been at this place for a couple of years and was passing through so I thought I'd give it a shot, and I'm super glad I did. It is once again on my list of cool places to stop in my travels. To the new owners --well done.

Well... we finally did it... and shame on us for waiting so long. Such a very cool place and the vibe was great. An open concept inside, with a couple spots outdoors as you enter inside. My wife and I decided to split our meals and we ended up ordering the Chicken Tinga Street Tacos, as well as, a platter of Chicken Nachos. Both very delicious and the cilantro is simply supreme on this! The radishes was a nice touch, with some sauce over corn tortillas with that Cotiga cheese. I would prefer flour, but I'll take it! We also had the Saison which was light, a bit dry, crisp and sort of lemony. All in all, we enjoyed ourselves and the neighboring tables. Had some good conversations with local folks. As always, enjoy and Happy Mule Elking!

This is the "good 'ol boys" brewery in town…read more And I say that with 100% positivity. You'll feel like you're at a big rowdy backyard cookout (don't you DARE call it a BBQ unless yer smokin' meats) that you just stumbled into. The man running the taps, who I can only assume is the owner, is boisterous, friendly, and ON TOP OF THINGS. He'll ask you what you normally drink, give you some samples, and hook you up with the right beer. I tried to give him a card and he just said "just let me know how many you've had before you leave, I trust you!". You really feel like you're at some sort of family get together. Oh, and the views of Rainier from the patio are stellar! Unlike almost all other breweries in the PacNW, this one is not stocked chock full of insufferable, apathetic, hipster and post-hipster types. The crowd here is largely blue collar: truckers and farmers, Carhart and coveralls, construction workers and men-at-work signs. Which, again, is refreshing for a brewery. Beer is for everyone, not just beardos at coffeeshops with macbook pros that "work in tech". My only qualm is that I feel like the beer is just OK. It wasn't bad or anything, but it also didn't blow me away. Most of the beers were a little too much on the sweet and malty side (even the IPA) for what I usually like to drink. (which is stuff that is really pale, dry, and bright) The irony of my sounding like one of those disaffected beer bro stereotypes I just criticized earlier in the review is not lost on me though so...take what I say with a grain of malted grain.

Like a lot of breweries I've been…read moreto, Elk Head is tucked away in a industrial/work shop location, just off the main highway running through town. I don't know if it's there all the time, but when I stopped in, there's a Mexican food truck in the front parking lot. Once you've seen it it not hard to miss, as it's the only shop with all the doors wide open and a good sized covered patio area. Walking through the entrance, the decor stands out right away, growler jugs, hanging from the ceiling from breweries from all over the country, along with a lot of cool animal wood sculptures and memorabilia for honoring Veterans and history. I believe the bar tender was also the owner or one of them? Very friendly and helpful with the selections. Taking time to answer questions, even on a surprisingly busy Thursday afternoon. Lots of seating throughout the inside and on the patio area. They specialize in unfiltered brews, which I like, as it gives a full flavor to most beers you may not get, if they're over filtered, another one of those balancing acts that those workers of brewing magic deal with. I started off with a Amber lager, full tasting with the crispness of a lager, a flavorful change from the usual amber ales. The place had a cool old dudes vibes due to all the memorabilia and the old van in the shop, but definitely wasn't just an old dudes place, as a few of the younger crowd was enjoying a brew while working remote. Plan on a return trip on a weekend to check out the weekend vibe, try the food truck, and more of their tasty unfiltered beers. I also tried their Red Ale, which was also robustly flavored and went down smoothly. Gotta love those reds! A fun stop while passing through or coming back from some of the beautiful hikes in the area. Definitely have their own style and niche well done. Happy Yelping and Cheers!
