To start with, I am proud to be a resident of Axtell.
With that being said, I like others in the community had some reservations about the "franchise type corner store" coming into the area. However, I think the ability to get gasoline close by appealed to everyone. And as time went on it became a place where you could get fuel at a slightly elevated cost above best price in the Waco area (a convenience up charge) ... and they Did make a good burger (again with a convenience up charge), & the employees were nice & personable.
Fast forward to the present: (as I've been told by those in the know) the business has changed ownership, & with that has come GREED.
New businesses these days are Mainly about computer tuned profit efficiency, & when you have a business that thrives from a happy customer base & then to have an outside entity (without connections to customer relations) come in & "revamp for envisioned profit" ?!... it just doesn't go over all that well. (I've heard MANY complaints from locals)
I just made my first and last visit (excluding the Emergency need for just enough fuel to get to a better priced retailer) to the "revamped under new ownership" Longhorn Station.
BTW, the changes made inside the store was very degrading to the once "Very Pleasant" store interior.
e.g.: To have a "convenience up charge" for fuel ... up to 0.15 cents per gallon is tolerable. (which WAS typical pricing at this location)
However NOW, AT PLUS 0.40 TO 0.50 CENTS per gallon is a statement of "We Couldn't Care Less About The Customers, We Just Want All The Money We Can Get From Them".
