This was a great find on Venice Island. Longet brings a French/Mediterranean fusion to the island. My wife ordered the escargot, served out of the shell in garlic and parsley butter, and it was delicious. I went with the Caesar salad, which came loaded with avocado, seeds, and even polenta croutons. Definitely not your traditional Caesar, but I loved it. For my main course, I had the beef bourguignon with mashed potatoes, and it was rich, tender, and full of flavor. The service was excellent. Our server was warm and attentive (I think she might be the chef's wife, which made it feel extra personal). The vibe was lively and modern, busy but upbeat, the kind of energy that makes you feel like you've stumbled onto something special. You'll need to plan to make reservations well in advance. All in all, this place is on my list for fine dining in Venice. I'll definitely be back. For next time, I've got my eye on the braised lamb shank. Cheers! read more

As a newbie to the Venice area, we have been looking for some good restaurants, and I have to say that this one is the absolute best! It checked all the boxes for me. It was beautiful with flowers and lighting that welcomed you immediately as you sat down. It had a lovely, little bar where everyone was chatting and having a great time. But the highlight of course was the spectacular food- from our appetizers to entrées to the incredible bread and dessert. Truly this food was superb. All the sauces and dressings were homemade - I can't wait to go back. I also can't go without mentioning the really fantastic staff too - you felt welcomed the minute you walked in. The Owners, walked around and were so delightfully gracious checking on each table - that to me is what makes a restaurant excellent and this restaurant most definitely is. I had shrimp tartin burger and friend a basil chicken burger. The sea scallops/risotto was my rec from 1st time visiting and 2nd round friend ordered-fabulous. My wife and I spent the Mother's Day weekend in Venice. Great opportunity for us to revisit our favorite restaurant there: Longet. We had dinner on Saturday and an early dinner for Mother's Day. Longet remains a spectacular restaurant. First, it's a really well-designed space, in which you want to linger. It's beautiful, elegant, calming. Secondly, it's a better clientele; people who have been around and know what's good. Thirdly, well, the food. It's elevated good food (if it makes any sense). For instance, the lamb shank, which I'd never order anywhere else, was a super tender marvel with really spectacular sauce. The vegetable sides scream flavor, and flavorful vegetables veggies are not common in Florida. We barely managed to squeeze our way in for an early dinner on Sunda, as all tables were booked. At the bar we had burgers, but not beef; out of curiosity and following a big dinner the previous evening, we tried the shrimp burger and the basil chicken burger - a first for us. Since it's Longet, they were both exceptional. Try the fries as well - not your usual fare. It's a good drive from our home, or else we'd be there weekly. Truly amazing restaurant! read more

We are visiting friends in Venice and they suggested we have dinner at Longet. What a wonderful meal. While the two men tried to find a parking place our wives went into the restaurant and waited for us at the bar. The bartenders recommended they try a French Chardonnay that they just started offering, and it was delicious. We shared a bottle during our extended dinner. My wife and I started by sharing the escargot appetizer, six snails served in a perfect garlic, butter and parsley sauce. We used the sliced baguette bread to sop up the sauce. We love escargots and enjoy them both at home (Maui) and when traveling (especially France). This appetizer is as good as the best we have had anywhere. Great start! Next up we each had a Caesar salad. I noted the menu description of a "mild" Caesar dressing and I requested some anchovies on the salad as I enjoy the extra tang. This is not your usual Caesar salad, as it is served with chunks of avocado, slivered almonds and pumpkin seeds (pepitas) as well as polenta croutons. The croutons were like nothing I've had before. Crouton-sized cubes of polenta that have been quickly fried. Delicious, slightly crisp exterior with a warm melt-in-your-mouth polenta interior. The anchovies added at my request were beautiful white anchovies, a definite step up from the smaller oily anchovies I usually get (and which I also happen to enjoy). My wife had the Scallops Risotto with asparagus and said it was delicious. I felt slightly guilty asking about their smashburger, seeing as we were in a nice French restaurant, but our server Jessica (who is also co-owner and wife of the chef) put me at ease by smiling and saying "It's on the menu, so you know it's good.". The smashburger was delicious, and made unique with the addition of pickled jalapeños (eliminates the bite of regular jalapeños) and their secret sauce. Very, very good. Their French fries? Not like your usual made in the USA fries, that's for sure. The potatoes were shaved slightly more than potato chip thin, fried to perfection, and served in a metal cup, which kept them nice and warm. I was full after all of that food, really full. But the warm lava cake with vanilla ice cream kept whispering to me. I couldn't resist, and I'm glad I didn't. Decadent? Yes. Delicious? Oh, my. It was the perfect way to end a wonderful meal. We will be back, and we recommend that you enjoy a meal at Longet. read more

Four of us enjoyed a fabulous dinner tonight! Everything - from the shrimp appetizer to our entrees - pork tenderloin, chicken ballontine, and short rib - along with delicious sides - was cooked to perfection. We had a wonderful dinner that started with the special cheese appetizer (Tete de Moine) and Ceaser salad. Our meals included the scallops with asparagus risotto, beef rib bourguignon, duck, and the tile fish special. All were excellent. Our waitress was very helpful and attentive. Upon entering we were greeted by a very welcoming staff, seated right away and had a waitress at our table shortly after. Again a very pleasant waitress. The menu was much smaller than most other restaurants but the mix is very good, something for almost everyone. Food is good, but on the expensive side, however that seems to be the case everywhere right now. Atmosphere is nice, bar area looked great for one or two people. Much much too rich and heavy. Sauces cover everything. Thought this heavy French cooking went out in the 80's! Why would escargot be swimming like that? Carrots heavily covered in orange sauce instead of slightly al dente with a dab of butter or a dab of sauce. Just tooo heavy for true French. Decor really nice. read more

Amazing dinner! Quality of the food was outstanding, and we all could tell that Chef took great care in planning and preparing the food. The butternut soup was exquisite. First off this is downtown Venice fl. and on the main drive. When you walk in the place it is very appealing and comfortable. Our waitress (Charity) was the best. Friendly, knowledgeable and was always nearby. I ordered scallops risotto, wife had steak special, another had beef rib bourguignon. All the meals were fantastic. We all said it is now our favorite restaurant in the area. Everything was perfect from appetizer to deserts. Even one of the owners stopped by the table to check on us. What a great evening. This is our favorite restaurant. The smash burger is our go to, unless there is a daily special we like. It's by reservation only, but we typically sit at the bar unless we have reservations. Great for a date night! Highly recommended, you won't be disappointed. read more

Used to go sit at the bar at the old cafe Longet. The shrimp burger, thinly cut delectable fries and a couple of hard to find French Ch'Ti blonde beers was a nice treat . Fast forward and the Longet's are back - bigger, and better - though sadly the shrimp burger is gone and the fries have changed perhaps not for the better . But. There's a reason they're so busy ! Make a reservation . The service is nice and prompt here - Giselle for one is a terrific and experienced server . The shrimp appetizer should be offered as an entree as well . Superb . The eggplant app isn't far behind either . The scallop dish I had was delectable . The only 'off' for us was dessert - we don't often get dessert . But when we do we'd like it to be a little bit of 'wow' - our blueberry tart or whatever it's called was just lacking . We actually left half and then went up the street for some ice cream takeout . Nice bread offering , and tea and coffee were solid . Nice to have this place on Venice Ave as an alternative to the other usual suspects . read more

My friend and I had dinner here a few weeks ago. The service and food were exceptional. I definitely will be going back. I highly recommend.

The food is delicious. The next time we go, I'll have the sauce on the side because French food is so rich. We had a reservation for dinner on my husband's birthday. We made the reservation a week or two ahead of time. When we go there at 6:30, the table they offered us was right behind the hostess podium when there were other more desirable tables. We were told the by the person who was seating us that she had to ask so in the meantime we could sit at the bar. There were 2 seats left at the bar so we sat got drinks and about 10 minutes later the hostess returned to say we could sit at the other table. By that time we were settled in. It was a bit disappointing. The restaurant was very loud and it was mentioned that they knew that and were working on it. Be prepared to enjoy your meal but not have any conversation. read more

Worst restaurant experience my husband and I have had in a long time. We were early for our Rez. They showed us away. We came back expecting this wonderful experience. We were seated in bench style seating 2 groups were seated AFTER us and on our bench next to us. Servers came to their tables. I hat to go to the hostess desk and inquire why we hadn't been served after a half hour. She said " I'm sorry I guess we forgot about you". 3 of us went on a saturday night. it was very busy and service was a little slow, but understandable. we actually liked that we were not rushed through dinner. it gave us plenty of time to enjoy each outstanding plate and converse. I had mushroom soup (wonderful) and both my nephew and husband had shrimp in riccotta sauce, which they both loved. We followed with scallops/asparagus risotto (delicious) and they both had beef bourguignonne (which they both loved) we were so impressed with food we again visited last evening. Room was again full, but our service was great. from start to finish food was outstanding. we finished with a seasonal fruit crumble dessert w/vanilla ice cream Homemade and wonderful. Don't let the negative reviews deter you from this delicious restaurant with friendly staff! They have only been opened for a short time and have been booked out in reservations continually. They are getting their feet beneath them now as they continue to improve. We have been several times and have both had reservations, and walked in and sat at the bar. All times, our servers were attentive and friendly. We have tried nearly everything on the standing menu and also had numerous specials on the evenings of our visits and literally everything has been outstanding. So flavorful, fresh, and beautifully presented. Their smash burger and fries are top notch! Definitely plan to make a reservation online or call one in since they often turn away foot traffic due to full tables on reservation until later in the evening, unless bar spots are open.
