I heard of Mulligans but hadn't made it up until yesterday. I asked an old friend to meet me there for lunch. Albeit a quieter time of the day, the decor and stage indicated a much livelier crowd in the evening. Note to self, go back on a Friday night. Our waitress Gatsby was a pure delight. She was prompt with both our drinks and food. We asked a lot of questions and through them all she smiled and left us satisfied with her replies. Now, if you're craving Irish beer or whiskey, they'll be your new favorite stop. We had Guinness, of course, but also, Harps and Smithwicks. Not much of a whiskey person but I did see their selections. We both had the fish and chips. Good and fresh. They have lots of Irish dishes so return trips are on the schedule. I can only imagine a full place and good music playing! What a fun place. Thanks Gatsby! You were the best.

Me and the missus gets blown into this pub like two gobshites lookin' a shelter and a feed. And ... what a shout! I ordered the corned beef and cabbage, and I swear on me Ma's good china, it was filthy good. Fork went through it like it owed me money. Juicy, melty, little ribbons of fat runnin' through it like it was showin' off. The cabbage? Deadly. The mash? Lads... the mash tasted like an angel got notions and said "ah go on, I'll make this one myself." Bit of garlic, bit of peel, bit of magic. I nearly cried. We're not from Johnson City, so it might be a hot minute before we're back, but believe me--if I'm anywhere within sniffin' distance of this town again, I'll be leggin' it back to this place like a man late for mass. Ciaran, our server, was sound as a pound--quick, chatty, callin' us "friends" like he was adoptin' us. Man deserves a raise and a parade. The place is set up for tunes later on, loads of seats, loos clean enough to perform surgery in--madness. Prices? Couldn't argue with 'em even if I wanted to. The missus got fish and chips for eighteen quid, mine was twenty-one. Soft drinks only two quid, and a rake of beers and cocktails if you're feelin' spicy. Absolutely recommend this spot to slake the thirst and sate the hunger--ah now, that's the kind of night that'd put manners on ya.

Always a special occasion at this place…read more Group of 4 reservation on Friday at 7 pm. Table with view of river had spectacular view. Excellence is standard here from bar drinks and beers to service and especially the food. Shrimp cocktail coconut shrimp and fried green tomatoes for appetizers, although the ultra fine corn meal hush puppies are highly recommended too. Blackened redfish with special salsa was tender tasty and an unusually rich tasting treat. Mahi Mahi and Chilean sea bass were others chosen and one solo filet mignon. Conversation Slowed to a crawl with few oohs ahhs and you've got to try this statements all thru dinner. Desert was warm carrot cake and chocolate brownie Sunday. Decadent sweet and deliriously great with superb back coffee. Wait staff never left a glass unfilled and was great with recommendations for an unforgettable meal. Next time I'll come earlier to take advantage of the seafood market ( closed at 5 pm) for take home delicacies flown in fresh from everywhere greatest seafood exists. Can't wait til next excuse to go to Kingsport. We didn't scrimp on anything/ the bill was a tad over $ 200 with appetizers desert and entrees. But there were great looking selections on the lesser cost on the menu too. I was looking for a first class dinner experience and was perfectly satisfied. Stuffed and needing a nap after though lol

It really was quite impressive. Our waitress was friendly but not very present, she'd disappear for large amounts of time and forgot refills a couple of times, but it didn't detract from the meal. I went with the Mahi Mahi entree ($20.99), blackened. I got the loaded potato for my side (+$1) and a side salad. My husband ordered the Stuffed Tilapia ($20.99) and we got the Fried Crab Bites ($14.99) to start. The crab bites and the side salads came out together. The salad was simple but good, kind of reminded me of a school cafeteria side salad in it simplicity. The crab bites were interesting - crispy on the outside, but still a bit...soupy?...on the inside. They were served with a remoulade dipping sauce that added a bit of zest. The main dishes came out pretty quickly, once the appetizer and salad plates were cleared. The mahi piece was smaller than I had expected, which was okay in the sense that I wasn't starving, but surprising in the sense that we were paying $21 for it. Still, it was blackened and flaky, and flavorful. The baked potato was also quite tasty, though I feel like it's hard to mess up a baked potato. My husband's plate was a cheesy, gooey slab of fish, served with two slices of crusty bread. He enjoyed the flavors of the tilapia and appreciated that they didn't skimp on the crab or shrimp meats. We had intended to end the meal with dessert - their specials menu was so intriguing - but by the time we finished our meals, we were stuffed, and it was almost 9 pm, their closing time. We didn't want to be those people making the kitchen stay late, so we packed it in and headed home. One note on the exterior: there were swarms of what we referred to as "midges" - not sure if that's what they truly were, but swarms of tiny bugs that hit you in the face as you were walking and followed you into your car as you were leaving. It was impossible to avoid them. Could have just been the time of year, or day, or maybe it's always like that. Just something to consider.

You'll…read moreavoid a lot of the tourist traffic here with its unique vibe, and you'll come away with a memory of "that cute British pub" when it's all over. NOTES: -This place is run on bare bones staff. I'd guess maybe two cooks and the single server. It is not a place to come if you need quick service or quick food. They're very friendly (even if you're not a local!), but definitely come when you have a lot of extra time. -This place is not accessible in the slightest. You'll need to go up two flights of very steep stairs to make it to the front door. The stairs are on the old side, and I was concerned about one breaking. There is no elevator. -The parking lot is relatively small and shared with a nearby Urgent Care. It's gravel and grass, and people mostly made their "own" spot where they wanted. As this made for a haphazard parking lot with small margins for cars, I wouldn't let a newer driver park here. PROS: -Lots of unique British dishes. We've never seen somewhere serving Bubbles and Squeak and lots of other dishes. If you're not familiar with niche British dishes, you'll probably have to pull out your cell phone to figure out what some of this stuff is - and that's really fun. -Food is really good. It tastes like food-your-mom-would-make instead of gourmet takes on these dishes. It has a really authentic, small business vibe to it. -Unique beers on tap too. You aren't going to find Bud Light or Miller Lite on tap here. All of their beers are unique pub fare. They do offer some of the American favorites in a can/bottle, but this is a great excuse to try beers you wouldn't normally have access too. -Despite the older age of the building, the bathrooms are very modern and very clean. Most gas station bathrooms are in worse shape than the ones here. CONS: -It's definitely a small, "small margins" business, and all of the cons that go along with that. Food took awhile, upcharge for using a credit card, non-focal dishes may have been frozen/reheated/canned, and parking was difficult. That all being said, we're looking to come back again, and the atmosphere (and the taste of their unique star dishes) make it one of those places you'll actually talk about when you're done with your trip instead of forgetting that morning you simply went to Denny's to scarf down pancakes.

I have eaten at Cheddar's before but typically not watching what I was eating. They have a vast menu of quality downhome options. As I'm on a health journey, this will focus on their healthier options. The restaurant itself is in a busy part of Kingsport that has many restaurants of different kinds. It was clean and well laid out. There was ample parking and it was easy to get to. The service was good, as the waitress was attentive and checked on me regularly. She brought out the honey buttered croissant and was able to make recommendations. As for the food, there was several healthy options. A couple types of chicken, sirloin steaks, and fish options (salmon and white fish). I chose the Lemon Pepper chicken breast with rice and carrots and green beans as the side. The chicken was very good and flavorful. There were 2 breasts included so it was nice and filling. The rice was just enough to supplement the chicken with a little bit of carbs. The carrots were tender but lacked flavor. The green beans were average. Overall, this location was clean and friendly and had some healthy options to allow health conscious patrons some options. The chicken was very tasty while the carrots and green beans were pretty standard.

(I ordered off the GF menu) when the food was brought out there was a cup of sauce on the plate. I asked what it was. She said it is bourbon glaze. I questioned her on if this was GF bc it was not listed as GF. I was told by her and another man that helped her carry out our food "I think so." I asked that they make sure because to my knowledge nothing with bourbon is GF. She walked back to the kitchen and came back and said, "I just asked the kitchen manager and he said, "It is gluten free." I really didn't trust it bc there was clearly a lack of training. I asked for the ingredient list for the glaze she goes back to the kitchen. While she was in the kitchen I pulled their GF stuff up and it wasn't there. Within the menu online it clearly stated "gluten sensitive served without bourbon glaze." So, when she came back and to tell me again it was GF and the kitchen manager told her it was safe. I told her that the glaze was not GF and was listed online as it was not GF. She was like yes it is I asked twice. I then asked for a manager bc I know it is a lack of training and it is a very serious issue. If I would have eaten it I would have had a bad allergic reaction. She teas like I just asked him. So I said "Please I'm asking you to ask the Manager to come out." It took forever for the manager to finally come out. When one of the people I was with said it is taking him forever to come out. I said, " he is probably back there brushing up on the ingredients before he comes out so he knows what he is talking about." When he finally came out that was confirmed. He told me that he was sorry bc they told me wrong and that it isn't GF. I told him that he needed to do better at training the staff bc it isn't a waitress issue at this point it is a management issue bc the training isn't in place and if I didn't know what I was talking about I would have ended up with an allergic reaction that could have sent me to the ER. Giving someone with an allergy to Gluten can KILL them. I share this story for my other allergy people to triple check and if you have a gut feeling you need to sit there and research before partaking in the food. I did tell the waitress that it wasn't her fault that they didn't train her for this. My brother who is a manger and has taken the safe serving class told her to never take her managers word for it to always make them come out to talk to the person so if this was to happen and the person was to eat it she wouldn't be at fault. You could see the effect the situation had on her that it almost happened. Just an FYI she knows we were not mad at her.
