Absolutely the worst vehicle buying experience I've ever had. I spent thousands of dollars on what was supposed to be a quality 2018 GMC Sierra Denali, and within 45 miles!!!of leaving the dealership, the transmission started shuddering and shifting violently. This wasn't a minor issue--it was a major mechanical problem from day one. I took the truck to a Chevrolet dealership, and their transmission technician recommended replacing the transmission or, at the very least, the valve body. No one will ever convince me that a transmission develops catastrophic problems just a few hours after being sold. In my opinion, this truck should never have been put on the lot in the condition it was in. The dealership hid behind an "as-is" sale instead of standing behind the vehicle they sold. Just because something is sold as-is doesn't make it right to sell a vehicle with what appears to be serious pre-existing problems. Save yourself the headache, the stress, and the thousands of dollars in repair bills. Take your business somewhere that values honesty and integrity, because my experience with this dealership left me feeling completely ripped off. I wouldn't trust them with another dollar of my money, and I'll make sure everyone I know hears about my experience before they consider buying a vehicle there. read more

First off used Sonic on lot would not start. Red flag 1. Once started (giving benefit of doubt) took for test drive. Drove fine and seemed ok. However missed the turn for the dealership and shortly thereafter got an engine overheating warning. Thank goodness for that. Upon previous conversation with sales person they knew the vehicle had issues and tried to play it off by claiming they didn't know why. I questioned sales rep about the Certified inspection answer I got back was vague. Overall I wouldn't recommend buying used from this dealership. Buyer beware! A missed turn save me thousands. read more

I am from Illinois and was at my daughters in Sweetwater, Tn visiting. My thermostat started sticking open so I needed to have it repaired. Not knowing any local mechanics in the area I decided to go with a GMC dealership for repairs. On 8/27/26 I called and made an appointment to have my thermostat replaced on my 2018 GMC SIERRA 2500hd, this is an gas engine, after about an hour and half wait they came and got me. I thought they had repaired my truck, but no they told me, yes you do have a sticking thermostat which they would replace for $812.53 also they said my water pump was leaking which they would fix for $1321.56 also they wanted to do a fuel induction cleaning for $295.95 then HD front differential- rear differential transfer fluid exchange for $449.95 then transmission service for $377.95 , chamgr oil $32 , air filter $88.90 , replace cabin air filter $78.22 and finally replace two belts for $542.83 for a total of $4439.27 ! I replied no I just wanted thermostat replaced but I wasn't going to pay $812.53 for that, so I refused everything. They then charged me $274.38 for diagnosis which was sticking thermostat which I had done told them that in the beginning. Needless to say I paid the $274.38 reluctantly and left. I went to OReily Auto Parts in Sweetwater, Tn and paid $44.78 for a thermostat, $14.99 for anti freeze, went to YouTube to see how to make repairs and was done in 30 minutes !! Total parts $59.77 big difference from $812.53 !!! So would I recommend Long GMC in Athens, Tn. not hardly!! I don't know if they treat all customers like that or just out of state ones. I received a GM Recall Notice to have the Liftgate Exterior Release Switch Assembly replaced ($4.56 part) I made an appointment with Long Chevrolet of Athens, TN to have the Recall Repair work completed. When I arrived for my appointment I was told they would have to reschedule me because they did not have the $4.56 part in stock. It's a 50 mile round trip commute for me to here "I'm SORRY" The purpose of making an appointment is more then scheduling, its for them to be prepared to complete the work. This is the third time the Long Dealership has created a problem for me. DON'T GIVE THEM YOUR BUSINESS !!! read more

I brought my car in due to issues with the shifter not working properly. After doing some research, I discovered this has been a widespread problem across many GM models for the past six years. Despite that, GM continues to use the same faulty parts and refuses to issue a recall. I've also experienced problems with the cruise control--it won't reset after using the brake--which is another common issue GM has failed to address. The dealership was clearly not happy that I came in as an informed customer. When I asked for a trade-in value, they lowballed me, and the lease offer they presented for a replacement vehicle was terrible. I've purchased several cars from this dealership over the years, but this experience was the final straw. I ended up trading the car for a Honda the very same day, and I will never buy another GM vehicle again. read more

Well, I hate writing these things but short story I'm done with Long Chevrolet. The sales department is great. Good people that bend over backwards for you. Go to the service department and it goes to crap. Terrible service and know nothing techs. I have PTSD just thinking about calling there. Plenty of other places to buy cars. read more

My truck broke down as I was traveling south for the winter. I was able to get it to Long Chevrolet Buick GMC. The mechanic Jeremy Flynn stayed last and got my truck fixed so that I could continue on the next day. The service advisor Amber Cox was amazing to work with. Definitely would recommend them. read more

I should probably wait to do this. I am just full of aggravation right now. The starter went out on my diesel pickup. Had to pay a tow bill to have it taken to Long Chevrolet. I received a email with a estimate of $600 and some change for the repairs. I agreed and signed off on it and sent it back. Note: all diesel trucks are a little more expensive to repair then cars and I know this". Received a txt asking to call the service Dept which I did. Service rep said they were going to have to add an hour in labor onto the $600 because the exhaust, which was on it when I bought the truck was in the way and had to be removed to get to the starter. I agreed to the extra hour. A little I received another txt asking me to call which I did. The rep said there was an issue with one bolt holding the exhaust to a bracket and they are having to soak it in penetrating oil to get it to break free so maybe one more hour again. I reluctantly agreed to another hour. I figured we are close to around $800 now. Received a message later saying the truck was ready and the bill was just short of $1,200. The things that was written up on the sheet was unbelievable. Over $150 for mechanics notes! That shouldn't even be an option. They did a GM recall which was suppose to be free and charged me $157 for it which is arguable. The labor charge is so ridiculous. I will never use this dealership again read more

I wish that I could leave no stars, took GMC Acadia in, technician said that I need new thermostat. It cost $1800 to change it, two days later, the coolant is pouring out of the car. That dealership service department is hit and miss. read more

Spent a year trying to get another dealer to address an issue. They had it fixed in 9 days. Need I say more?

I had my car at another repair shop for new tires and alignment. They couldn't find the locking lug nut wrench where I thought it was. I called Long to find out what could be done and suggested that they may not have returned the wrench when they did a tire rotation last year. Long's service guy called the other repair shop and someone drove 62 miles round trip to being wrenches to get them off. They might have been the cause of the problem, but to not deny it, and take that effort to correct the mistake says a lot for a dealership. read more

I had a terrible purchasing experience here. I purchased a Z06 from here in July 2018 and they did not ship several basic items that should have come with the car (splitter extensions, VYW LPO floor mats, owners manual etc). Since it has been 4 months of zero outreach from the dealership, I called GM's support at (866) 522-9559 who created a case with their 'California Engagement Center'. The agent helping me claims that the matter is a 'sales' issue and there's nothing they can do other than to notify the dealer to get in touch with me. Obviously the dealership doesn't seem to be in a hurry to get in touch with me at all. To add insult to injury my case was marked 'closed' without an option to escalate in any way. Its mind boggling that I can get a satisfactory case escalation with a $500 phone purchase which I cannot seem to get after dropping almost $80,000 on a brand new Chevy. I have been an avid Corvette owner for the past 6+ years but I will re-assess my next purchasing decision. There are plenty of other companies selling 500hp+ $80k performance cars with a better dealer experience. read more

My friend had his ABS Module installed with zip ties here as well as broken bolts and it was leaking brake fluid. They also didn't put back the safety clip from the harness but instead zip tied it. Its great that they care so little for people's safety. "Certified Chevrolet Dealer" read more

I wouldn't recommend, so much so that i took the time to write this review twice two years apart since the first one disappeared. This happened in 2020 and i came back to post an update to my car issues as a result of taking my car into Long for an oil change and tire rotation. In 2020 I was looking for a mechanic that i could trust to take care of the new to me 2015 chevy Cruze LTZ 1.4l turbo I just got. This particular model the oil filter is inside the engine bay above the transmission, so it requires you to lay down something to prevent oil from spilling on the top of the transmission. I will add that in between the oil filter housing and the battery is the ECM. The ECM is on the side of the battery box. The ECM which has a clear do not pressure wash symbol on it. I always watch the mechanics when they work on my vehicle as I'm a mechanics daughter have worked on my own cars and have the skill to rebuild transmissions by myself. My first glimpse of what i was in for was when they DID NOT use torque sticks or torque wrench on my lug nuts but used a regular impact socket. As a dealer they should know better as an impact will and can often does over tighten the lugs and make them harder to remove if say you're on the side of the road with a blown tire. The second thing that really got me upset was when they finished my car i inspected the top of the transmission only to find a massive amount of oil. I took the attitude everyone has an off day so asked them to clean it off after much blustering and them finally relenting they took the car back where i couldn't see it. I got my car again went for a small test drive. Did a quick inspection and found water on the top of my battery as well as other places water should not be. Looked down on the transmission and they had pressure washed the top of the transmission next to the ECM. During my test drive i noticed my battery volts constantly changing from 12.2 to 14.6 nonstop. So, when i went back and explained that the lugs weren't torqued. The engine bay was pressure washed where it shouldn't have been pressure washed and that volts on my car were freaking out. The shop manager proceeded to tell me the lugs were fine then used a torque wrench that was the mechanics that serviced my car to remove one lug nut. At which point he broke the torque wrench. The lady owner came out and started saying i didn't know what i was talking about and that there was nothing wrong with my car. Also wanted to know how i expected them to remove the oil from the top of the transmission. I told her they should have used torque wrenches or torque sticks which prevent over tightening. I told her they should have removed the oil with either paper towels, shop rags, or shop towels. I also told her that getting the ECM wet would be a future problem as corrosion takes time to manifest. At which point she asked me to leave. I called chevy and they placated me but told me in order to fix the issue i would have to allow them again to work on my car. I told them no. I would never allow them back near my car again. I had to replace the alternator. Fast forward to 12-21 my car suddenly starts to misfire on cylinder 1 traction control freaks out. At this time my car has 87000 miles on it. I read the codes and replace the ignition coil and all 4 spark plugs as well as do a tune up to it. It ran fine for about 3 months. I did some investigating since my car has been sitting since 3-22 and found the corrosion i feared inside the black plug of the ECM. The pins inside the wire harness are not separated so when corrosion builds up it arches the pins causing the ignition coil to again go out and a misfire in the engine. This is why you don't pressure wash the engine bay. You can use your own judgement, but they didn't stand behind their work and made excuses for what they did to my car. They even went so far as to tell me nothing was wrong with my car when clearly there was. They tried to make me feel inferior as a customer and as a woman. If they would have owned up to their mistake. If they fixed the issues caused by them or at least made an attempt to make things right my review would read differently. read more

Had my Camaro SS towed here because of a flat tire. Tires barely 90 days old. P, Tn. The person in the service dept said it looks like I hit a curb. Ok fine. Had to order the tire said it would be in the next day. The next day the person called & casually informs me that my car had been wrecked. Yep. Been wrecked. Said mechanic hit a fire hydrant. I have no idea where the fire hydrant is. They said down by the main entrance. Why is my car down by the main entrance. ...the service dept with all the cars being serviced are at the very top of the hill behind a gate. Is there a fire hydrant up there......i have no idea. I know theres not one at the main entrance that I could see. Led me to believe he just bumped the fire hydrant. Then I saw my car! He didnt just hit a fire hydrant moving my car from one space to the other. Its obvious something was hit from the side of my car. Its a fun fast car. Think maybe it got away from him while hot rodding it. Looks like it spun into something. " Hey Leroy, watch this"! That type of thing. Week & a half later I go to get a loaner . Call when Im almost there . Theres no loaner ready. Thank goodness I have another car. Said they will be finished with it in about a week oh & their not even going to charge me for the tire!!! I bought a 2012 Honda Civic and they said the first oil change was free . I said that's great! I'll just always come here for future oil changes since I live down the road from them. Well, come time for my free oil change and a lady that works there checked and told me the free oil change is for new cars only! When I bought it they told me it was free and it would be kind of stupid to not take it. They just lost a customer ( me ) for literally a few $$. What IDIOTS !!! read more

Service/customer support is awful, zero communication, zero care about customer satisfaction......drove 30 minutes multiple times for service only to find out they did not have part for my service/factory recall. Told they would order part and text me confirmation, but again no text, call or email. At this writing I have not heard back. They could care less, and with recall at risk of vehicle mishap. I have never bought a vehicle from this dealership and driven out of town to purchase a vehicle due to their poor customer attention. If they can't service well, why would someone purchase a vehicle from them.....recommend Cleveland or Crossville. I called Cleveland Don Ledford and appointment set, as well as follow up from manager, with email.... This is my first comment on yelp, but just so frustrated with the very poor customer service and lack of care from Long in Athens. read more

Stopped to look at a GMC Canyon. Test drove it and liked it. The salesman called me to come in and go over figures - I got there and he was gone within an hour or two. He has since quit. I called them back with an offer - so far no word. I have been in sales my entire life - if they are so busy they don't need to return a call with a person who is buying a new truck - their loss.
