The Carrillo Beach Pier is a long pier that stretches off of Cabrillo Beach in San Pedro. As far as…read moreit goes, this is a very modern pier. In terms of what it offers, in regard to facilities, is basically nothing. It's a very long pier that stretches out onto the water, and except for one area that has a large awning about midway through the pier, that's it.
Basically, the main use of this pier, at least in terms of the type of people that frequents it, is fishing. As you walk out along the pier you will see a lot of people with their poles extended hoping to catch fish.
As there are so many people fishing this pier, there is something that you really need to keep in mind. That is, a lot of people do overhead casting. The problem with overhead casting is, they swing their poles with its hook on it over behind themselves, and if you're not careful, they may hook you. So just keep your eyes open.
For myself, who doesn't fish, what I enjoy using this pier for is that it is a great place to take a walk. You can come off of Cabrillo Beach, and first stroll along the ocean side, where they also have loads of parking, and then once you get to the end of this area, the pier begins. From here you can continue your walk, breathing in the ocean air, while getting a nice session of exercise.
Overall, this is a fairly scenic pier. Over to one side of you is the San Pedro coast. To the other side is the harbor, where you will often see numerous boats, sometimes military ships, and all the other type of vessels that pass through the harbor. So, if you enjoy this type of environment, you will see some interesting sites
Overall, this is a well-maintained, pier, with a lot of interesting people that frequent it. For those of you who fish, this is a great place to toss your line in the water. Or, for those of you like myself who like to take a walk, again, this is a great place to visit.
