Thank goodness someone was home to let me in and I immediately consulted Yelp for a local locksmith. Call me old fashioned but I like to use a brick and mortar store when it comes to locks and security. (Had a bad experience in the city from a "mobile locksmith" years ago but that's a story for another day). I spoke to Jose at Merrick Master Locksmiths, we agreed on a price range and he was at my house in less than 30 minutes. Jose extracted the broken key and fixed the lock in about 10 minutes including a nice hit of WD-40 to lube it up, something I'll do in future periodically to keep things working well. Price was reasonable for a house call and he even threw in 2 free spare keys made at the store later that day. Lock is working perfectly now. Merrick Master Locksmiths offers a wide array of products/services ranging from simple key dupes to high tech keypad lock installation. Shea quoted me $400 for one section of vertical track plus labor, suggested I replace the 10 rollers per door at $350 x 2 doors, and let me know I didn't need to replace the springs. He told me he'd do it for $1100 credit card or $900 cash. I agreed, went to the ATM, and called Abbey. I told her I didn't trust Shea because he told me the rollers were "under tension" and I couldn't do them myself. She assured me she trusted him. He did the work, the track lined up well and the new rollers were okay, but not a dramatic difference. He suggested I replace the pulley on the garage door, but did not offer to do it. He did not take away any of the old parts, including the rollers. He left the old six foot section of track on the floor of the garage. He did not give me a receipt. I called for competing quotes later and found competing companies charge $400 for the same work One Stop charges $1100 credit card or $900 cash. If you use them, be sure to get quotes from competitors. And you can't assume One Stop Garage Doors are willing to take away the trash they generate. But the work is adequate and was done quickly.

Hired these guys as general contractors to get house in order before we moved in. They were…read moresupposed to do some electric and minor plumbing, refinish floors, paint, install ad splits and add a mantle on top of an existing fireplace. They installed the dishwasher incorrectly. I had to chase the AC sub to get the remotes that should have come with the splits. The sub who they contracted to do floors ruined most of them, stained and broke tiles and left stain hand prints all over the walls. The painters did not adequately prep walls so they are not flat and old paint colors/wall paper glue is noticeable. The same painters also washed brushes in bathroom sinks (instead of outside) ruining some of the fixtures. I had a different plumber address the excess of paint that created a clog in the main the week we moved in. And, I am still removing the paint splatter they left on the newly (but poorly) refinished floors. Worst of all, they left me with over $10K damage to my house and refused to take calls to even finish work already paid for. Instead of adding a mantle as requested, B&B chopped out the hearth--original to this 1930 spanish Mediterranean--breaking the firewall, ruining the marble edging and damaging the mortar in the bricks below; they even reset the antique wooden fireplace improperly. Billy is a great saleman and seeems like a nice guy; talks a good game but I am so sorry I fell for the act.

She took measurements and photos, and said they would be able to do it all, no problem. Unfortunately it has been nearly a month since we have heard anything about an estimate. We texted the estimator. Nothing. We called and a receptionist said someone would call us back. Then, nothing. The sad part is that if the work had been done satisfactorily, we would have had more projects for them. Instead, we now could not possibly recommend them to anyone. I don't understand what these contractors are thinking. If you are too busy or have some other reason for not moving forward, say so instead of wasting the homeowner's time.
