It feels like Meredith scammed everyone, as many of us were looking forward to giving birth at this facility. My husband and I have been frantically contacting other places to find care, as we were among the parents who paid a down payment for their services. Interestingly, within a week of receiving the shutdown email, their social media accounts, contact information, and website were all taken down, which raised suspicion among other practices. They wanted to understand the reasons for the sudden closure to avoid facing similar issues. What struck us as particularly strange was the timing of the email we received--Wednesday night at 9 PM--informing us that they were shutting down immediately. Why announce such critical news at night? It felt incredibly sketchy. I reached out to them, hoping for recommendations or at least an estimated timeline for a refund, but it's been nearly two weeks without any response. By the sounds of it no one really knew this shit down was happening and by the sound of other reviews the midwives where also caught of guard. I don't blame them, the owner needs to step out of hiding and give us a direct answer to our questions and refunds. Unless she planned on getting as many non-refundable deposits and leave the beginning of the year, switch pretty much looks like she did. I'm truly sorry for every single pregnant person that made the decision to get services here and then get ripped off as many of us either paid the full amount from savings / credit . I'm writing to let the Long Beach community know about my horrible experience with now permanently closed Long Beach Birth Center, and, more specifically, owner Meredith Bowling. My hope in writing this is that no one else is scammed by her as me and many other couples were as she appears to still be offering personal doula and birth class services and lives in Long Beach. 2 months after paying Meredith in full for our birth services, we received an email telling us the center was closed permanently with no notice, no referrals, and no info on reimbursement. She hasn't returned phone calls or emails from anyone I have spoken to and apparently skipped out on paying employees. She also deleted all social media, the website itself, and access to our client portals with our medical records. It has been almost two weeks and none of us have received any word about the over $8,400 many of us paid despite many attempts to contact her. Please do not go into business with her!! She left women at 37 weeks pregnant with no notice and nowhere to go and not so much as a word since her email of closure! I, personally, spent almost all I had saved to give my baby the best start possible and trusted her to do that only to be left with nothing. Hard lesson learned. read more

Can't say enough good things about the birth center. New owner Meredith has put together a fantastic team of midwives and birth assistants. The whole team is experienced and knowledgeable on all things birth, baby, and paperwork! Super helpful and I felt like I received the best whole person care, not just for babe. That's my major takeaway from my two birth center births... the midwives really take care of me, and let me take the lead on my birth plan from the first appointment to the main event. They had my total trust that if I needed to transfer to the hospital or turn my care over to a physician, I would have their support and guidance through that too. Luckily I got to have another birth center birth this year, and it is the most empowering and baby bonding thing that I can dream up. Birthing is tough! No matter how or where you do it. This was my 2nd time as a client of the birth center and I'm forever grateful for their care and compassion. Appointments at LBBC are never rushed and always thorough. I never felt like I couldn't call or text the midwives with any questions that arose and they were always kind and supportive. I truly loved getting the opportunity to get to know everyone at the office and their patience did not go unnoticed. The facility is clean and the birthing rooms are so intimate and calming. I gave birth to my second child at LB Birth Center this past July. I had such a great experience. My first child's birth was in a hospital and there were a few things I hadn't liked about that process. I knew this time around I wanted both my prenatal care, and birth to come from an environment that would support and encourage my decision for a natural birth. At the birthing center, the entire team was really helpful and supportive. Each team member, in their own uniqueness, added to my enjoyable experience. Jennifer was so easy to talk to and form a relationship with from the very beginning. She truly makes everyone feel comfortable when they walk in. She also encapsulated my placenta which was so awesome! Meredith lead my husband and I in a useful birth prep class that was included in our care. Genevieve was so sweet and fun to chat with in our appointments. Kimberly delivered our boy and I felt so safe in her care. Ray, who is the most gentle human being in the world, provided me with most of my prenatal care. Forming a relationship where I felt comfortable and secure with them throughout the duration of my pregnancy was so great. I also had to take my toddler to all of my prenatal appointments with me and Ray was so good with him. Having a space where everyone was kind to my son, and there were toys and books for him, not only made it so much easier for me while I was pregnant, but it also made me feel like he was really welcome there with me. Our birth went really well and it was so nice getting to have who I wanted in the room during the birth, having the option of a tub, and being released soon after the birth (especially because I had a toddler at home waiting for me). The rooms are also so inviting and comfortable. It just felt like I was delivering at home instead of in a sterile hospital environment. Our labor was pretty fast so my only negative was that I wish I had more time to get settled in at the birthing center before pushing, but if a fast birth is my only complaint about the experience then I'll take it! Long Beach Birth Center is a truly magical place. I could not recommend this haven for women, families and anyone pregnant or wanting to be pregnant more. Jen is a dream of a human-so funny, so sweet and knowledgeable. Meredith is a wonderfully calm and powerful owner-she has gathered a superb staff of midwives that are top knotch excellent and created a genuinely safe space for people of all walks of life to give birth. The entire staff have huge hearts and a massive breathe of understanding, concern and deep, studied care. I had my first son at Gracefull in Silverlake and my second son here. He came out 11lbs and Genevieve and Jen knew exactly what to do to make my birth smooth-"a butter birth" as Ray so gracefully described. Kim is full of joy, delight and deep kindnesss. Me and my partner received care at the Long Beach birth center from about 12wks pregnancy through birth (March 2023) to 2mo postpartum. I cannot say more beautiful or wonderful things about everyone on staff, the environment, and just the peace and joy that overwhelms me when I think about having my second baby. My first was born in a hospital, and while I had a doula, the moment we left my home, it was an anxious experience. That is not the case with my second baby who was born in the Long Beach birth center tub, my partner holding my baby underwater and passing him to me with the support of the experienced and non invasive care of our midwives. My doula was respected by staff and mostly the entire experience was one driven by my needs and the needs of my baby. When I wanted to move things along, options were offered to me, when I wanted to pause and rest, I could. No one every forced me to push, to take meds, or to do anything. And this was all in the comfort of a space that looked like my bedroom, essential oils, dim lit electric candles, absolutely no crazy fluorescent lights. And! After giving birth, I could eat my mothers home cooked soup because I wasn't restricted on what I could bring. If I could and was blessed enough to have a third baby, I wouldn't hesitate to work with be Long Beach birth center again! Finally, if you are a new pregnant person, the Long Beach birthing center includes various classes (virtual and in person) in the package. I started my care with an OB/GYN, and while she was great, she was overbooked, never took time with me, and her office staff was completely unresponsive. I switched over to LB Birth Center and the care was like day from night! FRONT OFFICE STAFF: Always friendly and knowledgeable, knew me and my next steps so I didn't have to inform them every time. Answer emails promptly, and are super helpful if you need recommendations or referrals, or help in any way. MIDWIVES: From the day I started my care there, I was consistently asked questions about my physical and mental health, and the choices I was making as a pregnant person and a future parent. It felt like the medical staff was available for me and truly cared not just about my baby's health, but my health and well-being. I was able to visit with 4 or 5 of the midwives while under their care, and I loved all of them. Each midwife has different experiences, insights, and specialties, so there is a real community feel as well as abundant information available. If one midwife didn't know an answer, she would contact another to get it. The morning I gave birth, there was a midwife on staff that I'd never met before, and she was equally incredible and it couldn't have gone better. (Thank you Ciara!) CARE: The facilities are very comfortable. My pregnancy was AMA, and I was in the Center 2x a week toward the end. I was always comfortable and almost always seen on time. I labored in any position that felt comfortable, and I highly recommend the tub birth! If you're choosing an unmedicated birth for any reason, the birth center is the way to go. There is something magical about being surrounded by powerful, caring and knowledgeable women during the most intense experience of your life. Before hiring for care: no explanation of what prenatal service is provided through them. During care: vital check, baby heart beat check, and simple health questions ONLY.. I was charged $1000 no refundable deposit, initial visit $500, regular prenatal visits after are $350/ apt for JUST that. All other labs are referrals to different clinics, and that's additional copay if they take your insurance. It took months for their biller to get approval/denial through my insurance for our-of-network reimbursement confirmation. At 36 weeks: care was denied, which I understood is due to IUGR (growth restriction of a baby due to placenta). Big hassle of finding an OB within last 4 weeks, counting down to 2 weeks before my due date to finally find one that accepted me. At 38 weeks: I was confirmed by the OB doctor that I needed to schedule induction on my 39th week. The birth center called to check in, and clarified that the non refundable deposit includes midwife care at the hospital when I am in labor. However, they had a very unorganized communication saying one will call and be there with me, but I never got the call. I was upset after labor during postpartum the fact that I realized I never got the quality care as promised. They claim that they're concerned about their clients, but I saw no concerns during and after I hassled myself for an OB and popped the baby out without their care. Once I told them baby was out already without their care, they showed no remorse. During postpartum: received a reimbursement check of receiving back only $1230 out of the $4480 paid. Conclusion: I wish I had known sooner about possible risks and struggles down the road in third trimester. Hospitals have everything ready in hand for any complications without risking the mom and the baby, and it's cheaper to go through your insurance-covered OB and other specialized doctors, to be admitted to the hospital thru your insurance. In the end, I regret choosing Long Beach Birth Center for their lack of verbal explanation of their service and price besides what's on paper, confusing and pricey prenatal visits that had no significance/difference that can be consulted by insured doctors for cheaper, and questionable prenatal care service per visit that leaves little to no quality, lack of organized communication. This was my experience. Please save yourself financially, physically, and mentally, by going through the safe route with the standard hospital care. Wishing all the moms luck. read more

I thank the moon and the stars that I found the Long Beach birth center. My pregnancy was a nightmare until I found them. I wish I had found them sooner but things happen for a reason and I found them when I needed them the most. They go above and beyond for their clients. Jen helped me so much with dealing with drama with my doctor. She helped with a referral to see a specialist. She also turned my placenta into pills and a tincture. So if you are thinking about it she can help with that. Every appointment I felt like I was walking into a friends home it's so Warm and welcoming. The birthing rooms were just what I was looking for. The TUB I gave birth is was amazing. I Want one in my house it's so awesome. The classes they offer were so helpful. The labor class was taught by the owner Meredith. Which I thought was amazing and it helped my boyfriend and i prepare as much as we could for labor. When you go with LBBC you just don't have one midwife you have a team of midwives. Jen, Meredith, Ray, Kim, and Genevieve are amazing. My dream team I tell people. They are available for you whenever you need them. If I had any questions or concerns I could call them at anytime and they would help me. when it came time for me to have my Little one. Ray was on call and she was on the phone with me helping me find my breath and once I got to the center things went by so fast but Ray was ready. Jen, My doula and sister got there at the perfect time to help. After I gave birth it felt like was hanging out with everyone at our house. I had an amazing experience with LBBC throughout my pregnancy, labor, and birth. I gave birth to my first daughter in March 2023. I had an incredibly long, difficult labor (28 hours at the birth center) and Genevieve and Jen were there for 24 of those. They were steadfast in their support, they empowered me to be in control of my birth (I delivered her myself! Which was my dream), and they brainstormed with me and my partner for new things to try when I was discouraged. They were so encouraging and they believed in me and my body when I did not. They got along very well as a team with my partner and my doula which made the environment very peaceful, and they always knew when to step in or when to give us space. I felt very comfortable trusting them with my health and my safety, as well as my daughters during such a vulnerable time. They handled every complication and every setback with positivity and discussed things with my partner and I thoroughly. Their office was always communicative and flexible for appointments and rescheduling to accommodate us, their front desk staff was friendly, and their midwives were medically and holistically knowledgeable. Their birth center rooms are well stocked and very intimate, they allowed us to set up string lights and bring our own essential oils during labor to create our optimal birth environment. I gave birth at Long Beach Birth Center in February because I wanted an authentic out-of-hospital birth while still getting prenatal support. LBBC worked with me and my anxiety by always being available through the midwife line, monthly office visits, talking me through bloodwork (I hate needles) and offering natural remedies as needed. During the birth, I felt very supported and encouraged. The midwife and assistant were great at coaching me. They take care of ssn and birth certificate paperwork, which is great. Baby also is seen for a 2 day and 2 week check Up. They also do the 6 wk check Up for mom. I'm glad that my birth experience was everything I hoped for and more. I gave Birth to my first in 2020 at this Birth Center when it was Beach Cities Midwifery. My experience was incredible so when I became pregnant with my second I knew I wanted to give Birth there again. I found out they had changed owners but I was pleased to see familiar faces and a few new friendly ones during my first prenatal. The prenatal care I received throughout my pregnancy was excellent. It was personalized and thorough. My Husband works full time so it was nice to be able to bring my toddler to all my appointments with no issues. The Midwives and staff always helped entertain him. When my labor began I called the Midwife line and was met with the calming voice of Ciara. My labor went quickly and once I arrived at the Birth Center I was welcomed with a Tub prepared. Ciara was my Midwife and Jen was my Birth Assistant. My Doula Amina, who is also apart of their staff was amazing. I cannot recommend her enough. Solid Birth Support is essential to achieving an unmedicated birth. My overall experience was great. My labor and Birth was challenging as Birth can be but I felt I was in good hands. Jen and Ciara worked very hard to keep me comfortable and safe. Jen's sense of humor and knowledge of homeopathic remedies was extremely appreciated and helpful. My Son was born safety in the same room and bed his brother was born in just a year and a half ago. This Birth Center will always have a special place in my heart. read more

The worst experience of my life. Choosing this center to give birth here was the worst decision I could've made. Once going into labor, at 2am I called the center, Genevieve was on call and stated to come in when I was ready, she was with another family and she was the only one on-site. Since she was with another family she told me to text once I was on-site. Once settling in, she told me that she would be going back forth. You would think since I called once my water broke she would contact another midwife, since both rooms were going to be occupied. Once my contractions progressed, she had Emily assist, who didn't know what she was doing. I had advised that I wanted a water birth. Genevieve got the bath started and stated I couldn't go in just yet. The more my contractions progressed, I asked if I can go in the tub, she stated no which is because she kept going back and forth to the other room to assist with the other birth going on. I felt like I was there alone. I wasn't given that one on one time with a midwife, which is what you pay for. I ended up being transported to the hospital because it was overwhelming for Genevieve; as an experienced midwife she should've taken control and instructed me on giving birth. She then stated that she was so happy she was going to be off the next day. Which why would you say that out loud in front of patients? That is so rude, disrespectful and very unprofessional. How does that make me feel as a patient? Like she doesn't care and just wanted to deal with one birth, but unfortunately she got stuck with two families at the same time. I was transported to the hospital, Genevieve pretty much waved goodbye. I was not asked if I needed support from them. Apparently Jen, front receptionist, lied and stated that Emily followed the ambulance. Which is a lie. No one seemed to care. This experience was and has been so traumatic for me. All this place wants is your money. I hoped for the best coming into this. They painted this picture of perfection for me, when in reality it was all a facade. I have had a fantastic experience with Long Beach Birth Center. The staff are incredibly kind, caring, and attentive, and I felt respected and empowered throughout my time there. The midwives and other birth center employees really took the time to get to know me, to make me comfortable, and to keep me updated throughout the process. They never rushed me through anything as hospitals have in the past. Any questions or concerns I had were promptly dealt with and answered. I've always dreamed about giving birth in a setting like this, and this birth center exceeded all of my expectations! I love how I could have my family there with me and felt like I was able to be in control of my own labor. I super appreciated the gentle guidance and all the knowledge of the birth team. During my pregnancy with my 3rd baby I decided to go with a birth center. I had two natural deliveries in the hospital and wanted to try a more organic setting. I did a tour and decided to go with LB birth center. Everyone was friendly enough, and although they did not accept my PPO insurance I decided it would be worth it to pay out of pocket. I was told the on call midwife would be available 24/7 to answer questions. I became sick around 8 months and messaged them a question. They failed to respond for a week. This was disappointing but not a deal breaker, I assumed they were busy. I was also told that if we needed to transfer to the hospital at some point that someone would go with me for support. Around my due date the midwives couldn't figure out why my platelets were dropping so sent me to Magella. Once there they told me that I had developed preeclampsia and I needed to be induced that day. I got in touch with the midwives and told them I was at the hospital and was being induced. I was disappointed and overwhelmed but ok and knew I was in the right place. The on call midwife told me to text if I had any questions and that they could send me a doula in training (someone I had never met before.) I declined this offer as I didn't need a stranger in the room with me (I had nurses at the hospital) But I was deeply disappointed that the midwife who was on call (who I had already paid for in full for my delivery at the birth center) did not even offer to come and support me or even stop by to see how I was. I assumed that because I had paid them $6,000 out of pocket the very least they could do was come support me. I didn't expect them to stay during my entire delivery, which was less than 10 hours...but I did expect and hope that they would meet me there since they had seen me through most of my pregnancy. So I ended up paying for not only the birth center but then got a bill from the hospital as well. When I asked them for a partial refund I barely got anything back. All in all, the birth center seemed fine and the midwives were nice enough but I didn't feel like the care I received was what was promised and that left me very let down. read more
