This is the second birth I have had with Lorraine. For both births Lorraine was AMAZING! We had a phone call and a one on one meeting where we talked about my goals and fears. We went over my birth plan and baby plan as well. In between we kept in contact via txt which is fine by me since I am a busy mom! I was able to text her and ask her advice and she was always incredibly knowledgeable and responded quickly. We were even able to chat the morning of my birth and try to find out if I was in labor or not. I was I am so grateful Lorraine was able to be with us for the birth of our baby. I know that I was able to have the birth I always wanted because she consistently advocated for us. My labor started that morning and she was able to help us decide when we should go to the hospital. I arrived at the hospital and she came within a few minutes of my arriving. All I wanted to do was labor in the position I wanted to labor in. She immediately started asking my hospital team if we could move have intermittent monitoring and was answering all of their questions about my birth. She was even able to give them our birth plan because (I forgot) and answer all their questions so I could focus on laboring. I loved hearing from my husband that the staff at the hospital were to the point where they just were watching my birth. Lorraine was guiding me the whole time. They came in last minute as I was feeling pressure to push and that was it. Even then Lorraine was helping me identify that sensation and that it was ok to push if I felt like it. I'm so grateful that I was able to birth the way I needed to on my terms and no matter what it felt like there was no other option. They had to follow MY lead and that made it all the better. I know there's so many times I felt like I was going to lose my focus on pressure waves but Lorraine's voice brought it back and reminded me I could do this. Remembering my cues and to relax between pressure waves. I gave myself permission to do what I needed because she reminded me that I could. I gave birth a a very healthy baby girl 9lbs4oz and 20.5inches. I am so thankful that Lorraine was that educated voice with the hospital staff. with us and always making me feel like my wishes came first. Lorraine guided me and reminded me to listen to my body and trust it. I have no idea how I could've achieved all of that without her. She has even been able to advise me Postpartum and answer all my questions. I couldn't be happier with my experience. read more

You give birth once and unfortunately I had a very bad experience with Lorraine. I would not recommend it to anyone. She definitely a good marketing person of herself and she did not keep that up during the birth for me. Please think twice before you hire her. I always thought I would try a natural birth but I really started to do alot of research once I found out I was pregnant. So many times my friends were going to go "natural" but in the end they would give into the almighty needle. So I did a ton of research and I came to the conclusion that I was going to educate myself as much as I could and that I would hire a doula. My husband was very skeptical... His entire family laughed when I said I was going to try a natural birth. Their exact words "Why would you ever choose that?!!" So I dragged my reluctant husband to our 6 week Hypnobabies course. By the 3rd week he was fully on the natural train! He told me "I really think you can do this!" The class was great and I really loved how we bonded with the other couples!! Lorraine was our doula also and it was a great experience. From our interview to when our sweet baby girl came Lorraine was at our disposal. She kept me calm and focused during my birthing time/labor and at the end I faced some complications... Lorraine gave me the lowdown on what was going on and let me know that it was crunch time! Looking back it really was the perfect pep talk... I pushed the baby out in 3 contractions!! And believe it or not I was up and walking around 30 mins later! My husband looked more jacked up than I did, lol. I had such a positive experience with Lorraine on top of a great birthing experience. I would do everything all over again in a heartbeat! read more

When my wife got pregnant we signed up for hypnobabies to attempt a natural birth. I was initially a little skeptical of the whole thing, but it was the best thing we did for the birth of our child. She succeeded in having our son naturally with the help of the techniques and research that we learned about during our weeks of hypnobabies classes. It's about 6 weeks of classes, during which every topic imaginable is covered, so by the time you're close to the due date, you're quite knowledgable about many of the issues surrounding childbirth, pregnancy, breast feeding, medical interventions, etc etc. With what we learned, we were able to make truly informed decisions about our boy's birth. We also had Lorraine and Kim as doulas for the birth. They were unbelievably helpful. My wife wound up going through 3 hours of pushing, and without them keeping her calm and getting her to focus on her relaxation techniques, I don't know if she would've kept with the natural route. But she did, and we're both so glad and thankful that we opted to use them as doulas. Can't say enough good things about the whole experience with them. The only negative thing about the classes is that they were every sunday for most of winter from 10 am to 1 pm. SO if you're normal and you enjoy football, try to have your due date in the fall so that you can take your classes in the summer, so you won't miss anything except for church. read more

Lorraine was a life saver! My wife found Lorraine when attending her prenatal yoga class. Lorraine is doula magic and my family and I will love her forever! We decided on a hynobabies birth at the hospital and Lorraine was essential in helping us navigate a very long birthing time. My birth happened a little in reverse--my water broke before any birthing waves began. I immediately called Lorraine and she told me to lay down and relax and hopefully I'd be feeling waves soon. She was right. 30 minutes later, I was actively in my birthing time. She drove to my house way up in the canyon in the middle of the night to be there with my husband and I. After several hours, we all went to the hospital where spent all morning, day, and ANOTHER night waiting for my little girl to make her entrance. Lorraine stayed up with us the entire time, offering gentle massage, support, and hypnosis cues. When my birth began to stall due to extreme fatigue, the medical staff wanted to give me pitocin to take me through that last bit of dilation. I was really struggling because I wanted NO medical interventions whatsoever and I was worried that the pitocin would make it impossible to go without an epidural. Lorraine helped us weigh the pros and cons and also really helped me cope with some of the guilt that comes when things don't unfold exactly as planned. After 26 hours, we allowed a small drip of pitocin. Things became VERY intense during this time, but Lorraine did an amazing job of helping me stay in hypnosis and keeping my husband calm :) Because of this, I was able to make it through without an epidural or any additional interventions. After 29 hours, I finally gave birth to a beautiful little girl. Lorraine was by our side the entire time. This superhuman woman didn't sleep, barely ate...she completely and entirely devoted herself to helping us through. For that, we are forever grateful. I cannot recommend her enough. read more

I had the worst experience with Lorainne. Everything was great IN THE BEGINNING, but once I needed her when I went into labor, that's when it got ugly. In the beginning, she was nice, seemed very experienced, and knowledgeable. I thought her cost seemed very high but figured that it was for her experience. Compared to other doulas, she's on the MUCH higher end of cost. She requires payments in FULL before any services rendered, which I agreed because I trusted her. She charged me $1,200! On the day that I went into labor, she was at another birth with another client. I called her and told her that I needed her there with me ASAP. She only responded by text, we could not reach her by phone. She kept saying that she would come after she was done with her other client. When she was finally done with her other client, I told her to come and she said she needed to sleep because she had been up all night. SHE NEVER SHOWED UP. Her backup doula called my husband when my baby was already half way out and I gave birth 30 minutes later. Please note, I went into labor at 6pm and I didn't give birth until 3pm the next day! Basically she did nothing... She didn't do any visits before the birth... Didn't come to the birth... And didn't do any post birth visits... Didn't provide a backup doula... Nothing. I called to discuss a partial refund. I only asked her to refund 1/2 of what we paid because she didn't do anything. She refused. I was going to let her keep $600 for doing NOTHING! It does say that in her contract that she keep half if she does nothing. Again, I agreed because I trusted her. BIG MISTAKE. I TOOK HER TO COURT AND THE JUDGE ORDERED HER TO PAY ME BACK! She has NOT PAID! If you do hire her, be sure that you are ok with her contract stating that if she DOES NOT provide services and DOES NOT provide a backup doula, she is NOT required to provide you a full refund. That means if you pay her and she does NOTHING, you DON'T get all your money back. Good luck with your births! read more

I was referred to Lorraine's Hypnobabies class through my OB/GYN. I am so grateful for this referral. Hypnobabies is such a positive birthing class great for anyone considering a natural birth, or any type of birth... As things do not always go as planned. I not only took the Hypnobabies classes, but also hired Lorraine as my doula and I am so happy I did. Thanks to my Hypnobabies classes, I had no anxiety about going into labor. It would happen when it was the right time for me and my baby. My goal was to have a natural birth, unfortunately that was not my experience. I spent 27 hours in labor with a baby in posterior position. Lorraine supported my decisions while I was in labor and really helped me throughout a very rough birth. I received an epidural that did not work and was in extreme pain for 90 mins waiting for the anesthesiologist to come back and fix the placement. During these 90 mins it was Lorraine's voice that I heard over everyone else in the room. It was her hand on my shoulder telling me to relax, and to breathe deep. She continued to play Hypnobabies tracks for me, helping me to turn within and manage very intense birthing waves. Thanks to the knowledge I gained from my Hypnobabies class, I declined the offer of Pitocin. Thank God! Had I allowed the hospital to give me Pitocin, my 90 mins without the epidural would have been even more intense. Even though my birth did not go as I planned, I am so grateful Lorraine was part of it. She was my angel. read more

I had always believed that child birth should be one of those over the top Hollywood portrayals of a couple feverishly trying to get to the hospital after a few Lamaze lessons. Maybe even a shot to the back to ease the pain. These were honestly what I believed childbirth should be like. When my wife found out she was pregnant, she went full force into learning the different methods of childbirth that would be available to us so that she did not need to take an epidural. Jessica (my wife) was concerned of the long term effects that are caused by them. That's when she found the right program for her and the baby. That's when we met Lorraine. Wow! What a blessing.Even though it was only 7 years ago, it feels like the world has changed so much in its response to prenatal education, especially in how much knowledge we have learned. Lorraine was with us through both of our babies births. She was a wonderful guide and teacher through the entire moment. The birth experience was so much less stressful with Lorraine in the room as well as the knowledge that we had learned. Trust me, these were not the easiest births, but with Lorraine there...I almost can't articulate how important that was, and is (if we are blessed to have another child, you better believe Lorraine is the at the top of the list of phone calls ) There are so many things to learn and relearn. I am proud to know that in a long lists of decisions that will be made with our family, Jessica and I made the right decision with undoing all of the "Hollywood" conditioning and idea of birth and went through prenatal education. My husband and I cannot fully express how amazing Lorraine is and we would highly recommend her to anyone looking for a wonderful doula to attend their birth!! Honestly, we weren't sure we needed a doula at first (i have an extremely supportive husband who attended all of our Hypnobabies classes and we practiced a ton...so why would we need someone else to be with us during the most important event in our lives?) Well, let me tell you, it turned out that it was the best decision we ever made!! From the minute she walked into our home for the interview, we felt an overwhelming comfort..like we had known her for years. Though I was giving birth in a hospital, we wanted the most natural and peaceful experience possible. There was so much we learned in class but we feared that we could easily forget some of the suggestions/tips to make it that way and worried that in case of complete exhaustion, that my husband may need some extra support himself. So after 40 hours of labor (part of which was at home), and some bumps in the road, I can honestly tell you that Lorraine's knowledge and support was beyond what we could have imagined. Her patience, kindness and calming nature throughout the entire birthing process was completely invaluable and both my husband and I don't know what we would have done without her. I first met Lorraine in 2009 while searching for a doula with the birth of my first son. I've always known that birth was and should not be a painful experience so in the search to have a perfect birth I needed a doula. My mom's birth story of me has always been the worst and I wanted to fix that for my son. No child's birth should be the worst experience for any parents. Needless to say, it was love at first sight with Lorraine. Lorraine had the right amount of attitude without being overbearing and got along with my husband. That was very important to me. Once my water broke, she was in constant contact giving us tips to move the labor along. Finally, we made our way to the hospital and I was only 3 cm. Lorraine sat with me as my husband was a nervous wreck some where else. We checked in at 7:30 pm. She kept me focused during all of my contractions. At 11 pm, I told her I was getting hot and cold and before I knew I was pushing. My little man entered the world 11:49 pm. I was in active labor for less than 5 hours. Everyone in the hospital was amazed that I had did it without drugs and my son had the perfect birth. Fast forward to 2012, I was pregnant with my second son. Although Zak was a handful with me going into preterm labor at 33 weeks (we were able to keep him in) and finally being induced at 38 weeks, Lorraine was there. As I was being induced due to distress on Zak's heart every time I had a contractions, she kept me relax and focus. Because pitocin was given at the lowest dosage, every contraction was more intense than my first son. However, i had less contractions but they were longer. Lorraine arrived at the hospital at 3:45 am (amazing) to support me thru labor. My water had already broken by then. At 6:20 am, I told Lorraine that I need to push. The nurse check me, but I was only 9 cm. Well, with the next urge I really had to push and baby was coming out. Zak came out with the cord around his neck. However, he was healthy. I was coming off pitocin which caused me to be extremely cold and shaking, but again my son had the perfect birth. I was induced, but had a natural birth. Lorraine helped me thru each contraction! I wouldn't put the lives of my sons in anyone's hand, but Lorraine. The emotional support means more to me than I can put into words. If you are looking for someone to share this private moment, I highly suggest you go with Lorraine. I've interviewed them all and glad I made the right choice. read more

If I could give no star, I would. I waited 11 months to write this comment to make sure that I am not being unfair but since after 11 months I feel the same way, I have to warn the other people so they don't have the same experience. I had the worst experience with Lorraine. Before I decided to pick her as a doula I read all these comments on Yelp to make sure people had good experienced with her. When I saw a few bad comments I asked her and she blamed on the people who wrote these bad comments. I wish I did not believe her and not take the risk that I will be one of them who had a bad experience. When I met with her she was amazing, I decided to hire her because of her experience and her all promises she gives. But once I needed to meet with her before the labor, she was never available. She does not answer her calls, does not get back to you promptly. I got upset and I told her I need to see her and it has been 1,5 month that we can not set up a date to meet. She is always busy an she has always something to do. Then according to her she cancelled her appointment to meet with me. I wish that time I cancelled my agreement with her. I do regret it every time I think about my super disappointing experience. Her price was higher than other doulas and I am like she is experienced she deserve it. But NO! she did not deserve it! She just know how to the marketing of her, she seems very knowledgeable but my experience approved me that its just how she advertise herself. On the day that my labor started, she said she is at home but she is tired that her son was sick the day before. She offered sending me another doula. This is not something you want when you pick someone to be your doula. I have never met with the other doula. I refused the other doula then she told me I have to wait. My Labor started at 10 pm. She came the next day at 1 pm, 15 hours later, I was already 6cm, she was not with me the time I needed her. My husband had to do everything for me. The only way we were communicating was text messages. She said she needed to sleep. I was very very sad. When she arrived I had to go to hospital because it has been 15 hours that I drank lots of water but not being able to go to restroom. At the hospital also my husband was with me all the time. I thought she will help my husband or stay with me so he can rest but she was not very interested in helping. All the things she said that she can do during the labor was not there. I was 8 cm and my baby did not turn her face back, so she was still up and was not going down, she lighted a candle and made me smell lavender. So WOOOW I paid that much money for this service? I ended up getting epidural. My husband was just exhausted and me too. And instead of telling my husband to rest, she went to sleep. Unbelievable. I am just shocked whenever I open my eyes he is with me and she is just eating and laying down. Basically she did nothing... I ended up with C-section ad she left as soon as my doctor decided to do C-section. She was basically 11-12 hours with me. She said she takes photos. We do not even have 1 photo. After the C-section, when I woke up my husband was still trying to stand and take care the baby. since she sis not put any performance at least she could stay and take photos and help my husband more important so he could rest after 35 hours support to me. He did her job because she was not around. I called to discuss my experience with her after the birth. I was hoping since she knows she did nothing she will offer a partial refund. But she just refused it and she said she did her best! If you do hire her, make sure not to pay her full amount before the birth. Good luck with your births! read more

Well...I will say it's way way WAY beyond what I had imagined! My husband and myself where in shock pretty much every class and every practice at home at how much we didn't know or assumed was correctly done with our first birthing experience. Thanks to Lorraine and Kim this time we feel different and are looking forward into going into our birthing time! (Yes we're looking forward to it!) The class taught us invaluable life skills that I have used at the dentist and after I threw my back out, in addition to during my baby's birth. My husband and I took the Hypnobabies 6 week course on Saturdays with Lorraine at the Prenatal Education Center. I must say it's the best thing I have done to prepare for birth. Lorraine was very thorough and clear in her teaching. She gave us lots of great resources to inform ourselves of different birth practices so we could make our own choice. I loved all the reading that was provided and the hypnobabies CD's to practice meditation. My husband and I had tons of questions throughout the classes and she was always so patient to answer everything. She showed us partner exercises to do when in labor, which was something we had asked if she could do, I'm not sure this was part of the class but she went above and beyond to teach us. I'm happy we did this class rather than the hospital class because my husband and I have noticed how much more informed we are than the rest of our friends who are also having babies. We feel very education and confident in the informed decisions we have made. I am so happy that we chose Lorraine as our doula. My pregnancy and birth was quite overwhelming due to very particular circumstances and a long previous history which involved 3 previous c-sections. Knowing that this was my 4th and final pregnancy I was committed to staying out of the operating room. Finding the Hypnobabies birthing method and Lorraine helped to successfully have a natural childbirth and give me the experience I had missed out on previously. Throughout my pregnancy she provided countless resources to supplement my hypnobabies studies. For the birth of our first baby, we hired Lorraine as our doula and took hypno babies class from her. I made my decision based on many wonderful references she had and she did not disappoint!! Lorraine has been a birth doula for a long time and have attended hundreds of birth. Her experience and knowledge definitely shows!! My husband and I signed up for the hypnobabies class with Lorraine. We had understood the class was just to learn how to labor naturally, we had no idea how informative the class would be in all other areas. We are so thankful for this class as it empowers you to make your own choices by knowing what's good for you and your family along with what your rights are. Also, it really helped involve my husband in the pregnancy which can be a struggle for some men as there really isn't much they can do. We used Lorraine as our Doula for the birth of our son and she was wonderful! She was always available to answer questions both before and after the birth.
