As a first time mom, I was nervous and clueless about birth and how to handle a newborn. Elizabeth was both my birth and postpartum doula and she helped me achieve the exact birth experience that I wanted as well as (dare I say...) a newborn stage I actually enjoyed! I will always look back on my labor & postpartum experience with happiness because I felt so supported by Elizabeth and her team. Elizabeth took away all the anxieties I had about labor and birth by talking me through my worries on FaceTime calls, texts, and in-person visits. My husband and I also took the "Empowered Hospital Birth Intensive" course at Looma studio, which was 10x more informative than the free virtual one I did through my hospital. I especially appreciated that the class emphasized how to advocate for yourself at the hospital -- something I hadn't even considered that I could do. Elizabeth was constantly checking in on me through my second and third trimester, which really helped me to confront the fact that I was going to have to give birth! By the time I approached 40 weeks I was fully ready and actually felt excited and relaxed about giving birth (Something I couldn't fathom feeling prior to Elizabeth!). My birth ended up being exactly what I had written for my birth preferences -- Elizabeth helped encourage me through some intense contractions while I was at home and at the hospital, she was by my side until my sweet baby girl was born! In our first week home from the hospital, Elizabeth sprung into action to help me with breastfeeding -- she helped me with a better latch, taught me all the confusing rules that come with pumping and storing milk, and came up with a weekly plan to establish supply. Without her help I definitely would have struggled with supply since I had to use formula the first couple weeks due to my baby's jaundice. She was also so responsive with any questions I had and it was great to have someone experienced to turn to rather than spiraling on Google. I was looking for a doula and found Elizabeth and Looma Birth via online searches and, wow, from our first convo to a postpartum miracle moment, I cannot say enough amazing things about her. Originally I planned to use Elizabeth as my doula but unfortunately she had a planned vacation right around my due date. If you are considering getting a doula, stop considering and just do it! First time mom during the thick of the pandemic in 2021 and I had no idea what I was doing. Elizabeth was amazing. From the interview process till we met our son, she was there for us. She made sure that my husband and I had all the knowledge we needed going into the hospital. And she was super helpful in assisting with pain management. During my whole pregnancy, I had a "plan" on how I wanted the labor and delivery to go. My husband and I hired Elizabeth as our birth doula for the birth of our first child in April 2022. This review is long overdue, and I went back and forth on if I would share. Ultimately, my husband and I agreed we needed to share our experience for closure. Hearing great things from family and friends on the positive experiences they had with their own birth doulas, I was excited when we found Elizabeth to add to our support team. She was always kind and encouraging throughout my pregnancy and I was looking forward to having her support during labor as well. That excitement sadly turned into disappointment during the birth of our daughter. We hired Elizabeth with the expectation that she would offer support and assistance throughout the labor and delivery process. Unfortunately, this was not our experience. Elizabeth came to the hospital to set up the room with affirmation pages and tea light candles, which was wonderful. She was there when my water broke and when I had my epidural placed to offer support. Once I was settled, she stated she would be returning home to rest and would come back once things were further along. I had been induced and things were moving slowly so we absolutely understood her wanting to come back once things progressed. I had reached back out to her once things were moving along and I was experiencing pain, needing her support. She returned back to the hospital at that point. Shortly after this during the labor, which was a traumatic event for me, Elizabeth stated she needed to lay down. She laid down on my husband's bed the hospital had provided for him as I was in the thick of pushing. She started yelling faint words of encouragement with her eyes closed from across the room seemingly half asleep. My husband and I were shocked to find that she had indeed fallen asleep for about an hour and a half during this time. This left me without the crucial support I was counting on and which we had discussed extensively prior to the birth. My husband and I paid a significant amount for her services, believing that her presence and expertise would provide the emotional and physical support we needed. Instead, I felt abandoned during one of the most vulnerable moments of my life. My husband finally stated that they were calling the doctor in and asked her if she would like to wake up. When she awoke there was no apology or explanation and she continued to sit in silence on the bed. Myself, my husband and the hospital care team were stunned. I want to emphasize that this is not written out of anger, but rather from a place of disappointment and hurt as I did not receive the same experience so many of you detail having. My expectation, based on our previous conversations and her professional assurances, was that she would be fully present and engaged throughout the process. The reality of the situation was far from what we had anticipated, and it added an additional layer of distress to an already challenging experience. We had paid in full for a service that was not fully rendered. I encountered a list of health issues and suffered a hemorrhage immediately following birth so we were not able to address the situation in the hospital with Elizabeth. I want to stress it is extremely important for birth doulas to communicate openly and honestly with their clients, especially when it concerns their ability to perform their duties. At no point did Elizabeth mention having any issues or conditions that could have impacted her ability to perform her duties on the day of the birth. I only wish that if she could not perform the services agreed upon that she would have called in a back up doula. We had been introduced to Aubrey a few weeks prior and would have been more than happy to have her step in. What ended up transpiring was unprofessional, unacceptable and ultimately left us with a negative impact on our already traumatic birthing experience. I just so badly wish our experience was different. read more

I know this is probably too long of a review, but I wanted any family to know if you are choosing Elizabeth and Aubrey as your doulas, you're not just choosing anyone. These women have dedicated their lives to serving their families and offer so much meaningful love and support while doing so. You will not regret choosing Looma Birth for your doula or postpartum doula services. I had met with Elizabeth on my quest to find the right doula while pregnant with my first earth angel. My husband and I ended up choosing another doula, who worked in my midwifery practice and at the time offered a sliding scale payment method for her services which aligned with our finances at that moment in time. Throughout the birth of my first daughter, I felt supported from that doula, but having the opportunity to reflect on it... I do believe something was missing. Having remembered Elizabeth and even having the opportunity to become a friend of hers through her yoga classes, I immediately reached out to her in my third trimester to ask her to be our doula for the birth of my second daughter. The most incredible part of Elizabeth was that she just knew. She knew how to stay in her role, but yet offer our little family all the best love, support and guidance that we ever did need. Even when I didn't believe I was in active labor, she instinctually knew I was and immediately came to support my husband and I. Elizabeth's care didn't stop even though she was our birth doula but continued to support us as we journeyed into the sleep deprived postpartum journey. Our family does not live close by and to know that we had support in those first few weeks after Ellie was here was and is so meaningful. During my 2nd trimester I decided that I needed a doula to emotionally and mentally support me through my pregnancy and birth. I had her as my postpartum night doula for 7 weeks after my C-Section, and there is no doubt in my mind that she is the reason why my recovery was smooth and my breastfeeding journey has been successful. My first delivery was traumatic. It took me months to recover, my anxiety was was intense and every moment of breastfeeding was a nightmare. This time around, my biggest goal was to be able to still get time with my older child and have an established breastfeeding relationship with my new baby and she helped me achieve that and more. Before each meeting, she would send over hand outs and reading materials that would educate and prepare us for the meetings. So when it came to the meetings it just felt like we were chatting. She also is certified with Hypnobirthing and walked us through the whole process. She also sent over a cute delivery day care package before our date including essential oils, lactation cookies and tea, and a crystal. After all the meetings with Elizabeth, I felt knowledgeable so it was really easy to write a birth plan and feel really confident about it! When it came to our expecting time, we kept in constant contact through texts, facetimes and phone calls. She taught us about the whole labor process and even massages and pressure points my husband used to ease the pressure during labor. When things would come up that were not according to our birth plan, we discussed my options and either proceeded like the doctors has suggested or went with what Elizabeth had recommended. Everything turned out great! We had gotten the natural birth that we wanted and I was so relaxed throughout the whole process that I went into the hospital at 8cm dilated! Even after the birth of our son, Elizabeth checked up on us to make sure that we were doing alright. She sent over articles and videos that helped with breastfeeding troubles that I was experiencing. During the first week I started to feel a shift in my hormones and immediately started taking my placenta pills, a few days later I felt completely normal again! I highly recommend getting your placenta encapsulated with Elizabeth! Elizabeth is such a caring and supportive person, we are so lucky that we found her. I've had the pleasure of working with *almost* everyone at Looma: Elizabeth in prenatal yoga, and Aubrey and Kayla as my postpartum doulas. Each interaction is warm and filled with care. As a first time mom, being surrounded by people who were so thoughtful, understanding, and supportive was important. As far as postpartum doulas go, it is the #1 thing I would recommend for any family welcoming a new child. I was a little nervous handing over my little one on the first night, but those nerves quickly dissipated when I got some REAL, GOOD sleep.
