The options inside Yosemite were just OK. Nothing too special. We heard that Fremont House was a solid choice for wearables. So we gave it a shot. We should have just started and ended there! First, great staff who were able to help in all kinds of ways. We would go again because it was so nice to find a store where the people working there seemed to care about the store and the products. They were awesome! Next, tremendous selection of wearables focused on both Yosemite and Mariposa. They are very different, unique and fun - much more interesting than we found in the Park. The folks helping us even spent time talking about their designs, shirt colors, etc. Prices were so reasonable and it was great knowing we were supporting local businesses with an eye toward the fashions that customers want. IF you are going to Yosemite and find yourself close to Mariposa, save yourself the LONG, SLOW checkout lines for mass produced souvenirs in the Park and buy from Fremont House. You will spend your time and money with people who you will come to know and realize they care about items that you will enjoy wearing.

The drive up is pleasant, with good scenery, and the fairgrounds are very easy to find. The best part was, the entire show was free! I don't think I've ever been to any other shows like this that were free. I had planned to buy things so not having an entrance fee made it even better. There were two indoor buildings completely full of vendors. They were selling jewelry, rare mineral specimens, fossils and even gold prospecting equipment. Everyone we talked to was really friendly (that seems to be how rock people are!) and no one was overly pushy. Outdoors were food vendors and my personal favorite, geode cutting! There were bins of geodes of all different sizes and you could choose which one you wanted and they would cut it open for $2. The prices were very reasonable. I ended up choosing a nice one, and I felt like a 5-year-old as I opened it for the first time. As the man who cut it said, I was the first person to see inside of it for millions of years! We plan to be back next year. I highly recommend it! Also the Mariposa State Mining & Mineral Museum was also free this weekend.
