You do have to watch your kids in this store because there's a lot of breakable items in here and there are signs not to touch and not to use your cell phone. I would say the name of this store is misleading because there's are very few Yosemite souvenirs. We came in for keychains, sweatshirts, etc but left with some cool energy gems instead! My family and I had a very uncomfortable experience at this gift shop. The employee continuously watched and followed us around the store the entire time, even while there were other customers nearby that she paid no attention to. It made us feel singled out and unwelcome, and honestly came across as discriminatory and racist behavior. Instead of being able to shop comfortably, we felt pressured and judged the whole time. Customer service should make people feel welcome, not targeted. We ended up leaving and found a much better gift shop across the street with amazing customer service, friendly staff, and better items/prices as well. We were treated with kindness there, which made the difference very obvious. We definitely would not recommend this shop to anyone. I stopped into Yosemite Gifts hoping to browse some souvenirs after a long day, but the experience turned into a nightmare because of one extremely rude employee (likely the owner or manager). While I was quietly looking around, my phone rang briefly--I answered for maybe 10-15 seconds to tell the caller I'd call back later. That's when this woman started screaming at me across the store like a nasty sea hag. She yelled something along the lines of no phone calls allowed, but in the most aggressive, unprofessional way possible--shouting, red-faced, and making a huge scene in front of other customers. It was completely over-the-top and humiliating. I've been in plenty of stores with phone policies, but never have I been treated with such hostility over a quick, polite call. The items were overpriced anyway, and the vibe was already off with constant hovering/watching, but the yelling was the final straw. Zero customer service, zero chill. We visited several little shops in Mariposa and everyone was so kind and friendly. Not here though. There definitely should be a revisit to customer service 101 for the people running this shop. There are a plethora of rules and signs you have to abide by while in this store. While I understand some of them, it felt like I had to be very careful with every movement I made as to not get in trouble or break anything. I felt like we were being watched the entire time. This store needs to get a grip and be mindful of how they speak to customers. This isn't elementary school, and there is no need to accost those supporting their business. My friends and I spent nearly $100 at this establishment, and even if we hadn't it is wildly inappropriate to talk to anyone that way...employee very rudely told my friend she couldn't be on her phone so she stepped outside to return a phone call, after she had purchased something and was waiting for me. As I was purchasing something I heard the two employees discussing they were glad they had the "no phone rule" because they were happy it got those people out of their store not realizing the person who stepped outside was with me and had bought something only moments before. As I pull out my phone to pay the employee asks if I need to have it out, reiterating customers can only have their phone out to pay--it was completely unnecessary to ask if I needed my phone as I am literally about to complete a transaction. When I went to pay she wouldn't look at me and wouldn't ring me up, a white couple walked up to the counter and she was all smiles again! Ready to charge them. Dangerous We purchased a mid priced 200 dollar wedding ring for my husband. After 3 weeks of wear, he went to take it off and severely injured his finger due to cheap stone with cheap glue falling out.. The owner was so heartless she didn't even care about the injury and when I called her out for using cheap glue she hung up on me . HEARTLESS WOMAN didnt even have compassion for the serious injury and refused to replace or repair the faulty jewelry. Do not purchase any jewelry. The owner came and hovered over us like we criminals. She followed us around the the store and was extremely rude. We felt uncomfortably and decide to leave. She taunted us, called us rude for coming in to here store and leaving and told us OUR KIND was not allowed in her store and should leave Mariposa. (Mexican-Americans). Don't try to return anything, Su becomes very unpleasant and un-cooperative, even if you have a receipt. I bought a necklace that broke and I just wanted a replacement but she refused. I think she relies on tourist traffic, they'll never come back to return shoddy merchandise. Another time my daughter and I were browsing, Su confronted my daughter, accused her of stealing and said she had video cameras. When I said let's look at the video Su backed down and sarcastically said if my daughter said she wasn't stealing then nevermind. No apology just sarcasm. Downtown Mariposa is adorable. I love the old western feel to it. Yosemite Gifts was chock full of pretty much anything that you could imagine. I was hoping for more gold rush style things. The lady who owns this store makes custom jewelry, and the prices for her pieces are really amazing. There is a great selection of gemstone beads at reasonable prices, but why make it when you can buy pieces of such craftsmanship for less than the cost of the beads? So glad I stopped in... Beautiful beads and huge selection but lacking in customer service. This is the only store we walked into in Mariposa where the person at the counter did not greet us or even speak to us. We even said "hello" and were met with silence. We assumed it wasn't anything we did, as all other shop/museum owners at places we visited were very friendly and cordial (which encouraged us to browse and shop more from their stores). This store had some nice merchandise but the costumer service was more than terrible. Can I give negative stars? The man behind the counter, who I later found out was the owner from other stores in the area, was truly nothing but a rude jerk. He barked at my mother to get out of the store because she had a cup of coffee in her hand. The sign on the door stating no food and drinks was maybe two by two inches long and was not visible crammed next two several other demanding signs. DO NOT BRING YOUR DRINKS INSIDE!!! He was extremely rude after that as well when my sister walked in and I told her not to bring her drink inside and then he barked at me right after to leave his store. At that point I was more than happy to leave. I spent my money elsewhere at the other shops that have great costumer service in the area.
