The Pittsburgh Tour Company - This was one of many of our museum visits, one we would have missed if not for the hop on hop off tour.

My sister in law booked tour stop tickets for us to do the tour. We were excited because it would…read morelimit the collective driving and parking issues at various stops. Everything is ridiculously vague. The pick up location indicated one area outside the Fairmont Hotel, but there was no signage and a very helpful valet pointed us to the pickup location. We were in place over 10 min early with one person still monitoring the other designated stop just in case, but that didn't mean anything because the "pickup times are approximate." We waited about 25 minutes and figured that the bus running over 15 minutes late seemed a bit extreme, so my SIL called the company. Apparently the bus came and left from who knows where and we never even saw it despite being able to see clearly down five different streets. Our next option was to wait over an hour for the next bus, but the person on the phone couldn't provide the exact bus pick up location, which made waiting pointless if the bus was not going to be at the advertised location. We ended up sightseeing on our own.

Our first tour guide did a great job letting us know what had been filmed in certain areas, but not so well with telling us what someone might see or experience at different spots. Our second guide, Ren, did a great job with that. I wish she had talked about the giant art fair that had been going on through town though. (Although, maybe she did when we weren't on the bus?) We didn't have any issues with pick up or drop off. We got to see the Duquesne Incline, Randyland and The Warhol Museum. At one point we did stop at the tour companies headquarters - I would advise you not to make the same mistake I did and get sunscreen.

My husband, Sister, and I took the Potomac Eagle All Day Petersburg trip on June 27, 2026. For my…read morehusband and myself, this was our second "Ride to the End of the Line" and although our first trip was great, this one exceeded any expectations we had; it was a wonderful all-around experience. There are three reasons this Potomac Eagle experience is worth repeating, and why the value is exceptional: 1. First and Foremost: The Potomac Railroad Employees From first contact to disembarking upon return to Wapacomo Station the employees made us feel welcome and valued. Although all of the employees were great, three young men stood out among their peers...Lucas, Carlos and Kalib made our trip a truly memorable experience. Immediately upon boarding, they offered us coffee or tea and throughout the day, they not only checked-in to see how we were doing, they stopped by and talked to us. I watched them treat other guests in our car the same. When we learned these young men were working their first jobs, we were amazed; they truly epitomized superior customer service. In today's world, I rarely see such outstanding care and service. Potomac Eagle is doing something right; other service providers could learn from the Potomac Eagle version of excellence. 2. Second: Superior Food throughout the trip Since we were on the all day trip, our reservation included breakfast and lunch appetizers with a small treat before we disembarked at Petersburg. Upon reboarding, Lucas and Carlos immediately welcomed us back with coffee and Arnold Palmer (lemonade-sweet tea) drinks. They kept our cups and glasses full for the entire return trip. The true value from our trip, however, was our Superior Dining experience. Chef William prepared a four-star, four-course dinner (Superior Dining class) that will bring me back later this summer for another excursion. We had beef tenderloin and Chilean Sea Bass w/Lemon for our main courses with appetizers, salads, and desserts. I felt like I gained 3 pounds from the outstanding dinner alone!! 3. Third but not least important: The Trough Canyon Experience Approximately mid-way to Petersburg, the train stops to allow passengers into their open-air gondola car for a 45-minute unobstructed view. While the train goes through the Trough Canyon, passengers see eagles soaring, dear foraging, and other natural wonders. The trip offers an opportunity only available via the Potomac Eagle...driving a car wouldn't be the same. For all the great things I can say about the Potomac Eagle experience, I would be remiss if I didn't mention the opportunities and people in Petersburg. The trip offers an additional excursion to Smoke Hole Caverns. For those who do not go to Smoke Hole, there are small vintage shops, museums, restaurants, and/or a chance to sit back, relax and to just be in the moment. It's a day away from the normal grind...Ride the Potomac Eagle to the End of the Line. Take a step back in time and enjoy!

I booked the tickets for July 3rd 1pm ride months in advance. We arrived at the location 15 minutes…read moreprior departure time on a very hot day. The parking lot was right in front of the entrance. People were lined up per their designated train car. Due to the hot weather, they were offering upgrades to regular cabin customers to AC cabin for $15 each, that was very generous. The car we were in was clean and comfortable. Windows had nice view of the Potomac river. Half an hour into the ride, I went to concession car to get some food and snacks. The menu a pop corn, hot dog, nachos, pepperoni roll, pulled pork sandwich and few other shacks, candies and ice cream. Prices were decent. It was steaming hot in the car. There were two employees behind the counter who didn't seem to be well trained enough. Both of them took order of one customer, prepared the whole order before getting to the next customer. I had waited 30 minutes just to order a popcorn. Few others waited long too, just to pay for their candies and snacks that took less than 30 seconds to transact. About an hour into the trip, the AC in our car stopped working due to the heat. All passengers from our car were moved to another far end car that actually had better view thru the window. It took the train about 2 hours to get to the final point where it started heading back the same way it came from. Throughout that time one person was narrating in a very monotonous voice. Combined with inadequate speakers, it was so difficult to hear anything that was being said. At times the music and announcements were going on at the same time. It all seemed so unorganized. Though I enjoyed some of the views of the Potomac river banks, the whole trip was mostly thru green trees and bushes. The staff members were friendly and helpful. But some of these administrative inefficiencies made the trip difficult to enjoy.
