After several horrible years at a large assisted living facility I am so happy I found Arbor Victoria. I will say, when I moved my father into Arbor Victoria I was so pleased to find such a lovely home that I didn't think to ask a few questions. It was only after moving in, that I realized most of the residence are either sedentary or bed-ridden. At the time my father was still quite mobile and could hold a conversation. Most of the residence at Arbor Victoria are in various states of dementia. I only mention this so that you have that conversation with Richard. If you are looking for an active home, at this particular time it might not be the right place. With that being said, I wouldn't change anything. I always knew my father was being well cared for and nourished. Richard and his team are always on top of any health concerns and quick to let you know what is going on with your loved one. This made it easier for me to breathe. My father recently passed and I could not have made it through that day without Richard. My father needed extra care in the last few months and Richard and his caregivers went above and beyond in helping him. As we know the cost for board and care is a lot, but Arbor Victoria is worth every penny.

My parent was a resident for a very short time. I moved them out due to lack of compassion,…read moretraining, and staffing. The staff is NOT trained to handle different dementia behaviors. I witnessed staff, on several occasions, ignoring residents when they became combative and difficult. Hearing them tell one another, "I am not handling them". My parent was accused of aggressive/abusive behaviors. Sending them to the ER, rather than deescalating the situation. Staff expected my demented parent to inform them when they were becoming agitated or overwhelmed to provide them with their prescribed "as needed" medication. Staffs lack medical training/guidance Director Caroline S. would call demanding my parent be removed out of the facility, despite physician advising against this. Our provider informed the director, on more than one occasion, any move would be detrimental to their health. Director does not appear to have medical knowledge, or is just not familiar with physician orders. Medications were not administered as directed. The facility is not staffed appropriately with the amount of residents. Many residents were alone with no staff around. I witnessed staff sitting around and speaking about other residents. Highly unprofessional and unethical. Rooms were cleaned daily. There was leftover food in my parents room from the night before. Bugs flying around in and around the room. Despite of personal items being labeled, my parents clothes, personal possessions, walker and cane would end up in other residents rooms. The facility made a strong impression that my parent would be well taken care of. Safe and well cared for. The facility made it impossible and difficult for my parent to adjust. This is supposed to be a memory care facility. Staff is supposed to be trained to handle ALL levels of dementia. They don't! Had I known this, I would have never placed my parent in this facility. I do not recommend this facility with your loved one.

The staff is amazing and really is what separates them from others! It all started with Suzy (Marketing Director); she welcomed us in, made sure we had all the information we needed, talked us through the process, gave us several options, and treated my Mom like a normal person. She has continued to be part of the process, even after her primary role had been completed. The first person you encounter when you enter the facility is Yvonne, and she always meets you with a smile; it really gets your visit started on the right foot. Lori, the Executive Director, has stepped in and continued to welcome us, addressing all concerns and helped make the transition smooth. She is a joy to talk with and you know that her team is there for you. Cindy, the head nurse has been above amazing; her attention to detail with all aspects of Mom's needs has been awesome and continues to interface with us, the doctors, and the rest of the staff. Her and her staff keep us updated and really does put our minds at ease. The shining star has been their activities director, Penny. Having a mother with Alzheimer's/Dementia brought on some great concerns and worries for our family as my Mom struggled with her grasp on reality and coping with the world around her. One of our biggest worries was that Mom would retreat into herself, be lonely, afraid, and just not part of the real world. Penny has made Mom's life meaningful and enjoyable. Daily activities, outings, interaction with the rest of the residents, and just making those connections with others around her has really made the biggest impact. To see Mom smile and talk about how much she likes her new home is amazing! The facilities are new and well maintained, with excellent security and a support staff that is always welcoming and friendly. There is a nice porch where residents can sit in the sun, several different common rooms; one with a TV, another with a Piano, and a nice dining area as well. The rooms themselves are very nice and come with cable provided for the TV. Mom is in a private room, with a shared bathroom and small common area. I was able to put a full size bed, side tables, a dresser, and she has a decent closet to hang her clothes... more than enough for her. I simply couldn't be more pleased, and it is a huge relief that Mom is in a place that really cares.

This place is truly awful. My mom has been here quite…read moresometime. I am being told by caregivers that she we should remove her immediately. That she doesn't receive adequate care here. That they are extremely understaffed. That there has even come a time when 1 caregiver had to work a whole floor themselves during the morning and evening shift. So therefore how is one person giving showers, feeding them , changing them and caring for them. I am being told my mom is sometimes not fed because they forget to feed her. They use the supplies that I buy for her like combs, socks and shirts and use them for other residents. They use my mom's wipes and briefs for other residents. That the staff does not use hoyer as they should be and sometimes one caregiver is transferring my mom who is not that skinny or lightweight onto the wheel chair and back for meals. I didn't think much because I barely am able to visit with my work schedule and so a I was told this by caregivers Mike the director is apparently cheap and does not provide enough supplies that even caregivers have to go without wipes or gloves. I will be calling the state licensing and have them come in the specific days and times the caregivers have explained to me so that they could see what's really going on.

After serving as my Mom's primary caregiver for 11 years, I spent two years personally checking…read moredozens of local North County senior residential care homes for my 90 year old mother, who suffers from advanced Alzheimer's and Dementia. Most are OK, not great. The larger facilities are too hotel-ish and very costly. A few were terrible. I reported THE MANSE in Vista to the state for elder abuse, and ultimately they were given a only minor warning. Avoid that house of horrors at all costs! After putting Mom's name on a list at Blue Skies I decided to call Lauren back to see if they had an opening. Fortunately for us, she had an opening and so in February of 2014 we moved Mom into their Oceanside facility. They have two large 6 room/bed homes, one in Oceanside and the other in San Marcos. Both are big beautiful homes with lovely yards and gardens. Mom's care there has been wonderful, as Lauren and her staff treat each resident as if they are family, with lots of TLC, activities, and personal care. Staffing levels are plentiful, with a 2-3 staffing contingent for the six residents at each place 24/7. Amazingly, their price in very middle-of-the-road and well worth the services and facilities provided with delicious hot meals 3X daily, and plenty of snacks and drinks. Their loving, caring attitude is priceless! If you are seeking a wonderful home-like "family" atmosphere for an elder loved one, you will not find a nicer, more accommodating place in the area for ANY price. I know this as I checked most of them personally and can attest to this fact. So if you need some help with a loved one getting on in years, or needing help with daily living activities, do yourself a favor and call Lauren and get on their list right away. You will thank yourself as I do every single day. Yes, there is a list but they do have turnover due to the advanced aged of many of their residents.

She took my information, Sue, at Bressi Ranch active care and gave it out without my permission. I'm not sure if I could trust this place with my family if I can't trust them with my phone number. I did have the feeling this was going to happen, I got a very bad feeling when she mentioned this place, and said I should call her. I wanted to say to her I would prefer not to. And you should not share my number. I just assumed that a place like this would take a persons privacy into consideration I was so wrong and I'm so annoyed right now. I texted Kathy Ellis back, and I said Sue should not have shared my number and to never contact me again. I also mentioned I was going to leave this yelp review because I was making private phone calls about my private life and my mom's private medical condition and she decided to share it with somebody with no permission.
