I've been that dummy whose shelled out $600 for brassy highlights at a Beverly Hills salon because I wasn't valued as a customer. It used to be so frustrating to have stylists spend the same amount of time on me as someone with not even half as much hair, meaning they were usually sloppy and thorough. I booked with Stephany based off of her great reviews but unfortunately I didn't receive the service I was expecting. Stephany was very stand offish and make me feel unwelcome and uncomfortable. I was never offered anything to drink, the time she took to wash my hair was less than 3 minutes and the conversation was nonexistent. I came in to her studio 2 months ago excited to go slightly blonder and wanted my whole head dyed and was very disappointed. Stephany was very deceiving and did a very mediocre job and charged me 300$ for basically ombré that was 4 inches down and it looked like I had 4 inches of my Virgin dark brown hair in regrowth. I came in with Virgin dark brown medium length slightly below the shoulder/above the chest hair and I booked the full color base + balayage/highlights which on the website says it's starting at $215. My end goal was to take my curly hair and make it medium beachy blonde, I even showed her reference pics. When I arrived, she started saying things like "you can't achieve your goal in a day" which I totally understand a lot of hairdressers say that but my end goal wasn't even close to being there, my end goal wasn't even that light of a blonde and it's not like I was asking to go platinum, i was only asking for dark ashy blonde(full head). I felt like for the three hours I spent there she barely lightened it 2 levels, 3 if it was under sunlight and she only gave me highlights which on the website says it's starting at $175 despite me booking the $215 full base color with highlights and she proceeded to say things like "I don't do base colors cause the regrowth looks ugly" yet she still charged me the base color price($300). Also, if she doesn't do a base color then why did she put out false advertisement on the website and still charge me for services she didn't do for me. In addition to that, she charged me an additional $25 to blow dry my hair cause it's "thick and curly" and she went over the time the appointment was booked for. She was very slow and was super stingy with the bleach, you can tell she wanted to save every penny. After she blow dried my hair it ended up looking super frizzy and it was incredibly half-as*ed and she did it in less then 20 minutes despite charging me an additional $25. While she was dyeing my hair she talked about how she doesn't like doing crazy one day transformations and that she prefers making it into 5 sessions charging 300 each time. I don't know about you but I don't wanna go blonder and have to pay $1500 in the span of three months. Like I said, I understand you can't do it in one session but she barely did anything in that session and cause of the 4 inches down the roots that she didn't even touch it still looked like I had super dark hair which is NOT what I wanted! NOT WHAT I ASKED FOR! Especially since a girl I knew who had a similar hair color to me and her hair colorist turned her full head to medium blonde in 4 hours and only charged her $185 for a WAY better job. To me, it just seemed like she was money hungry and her skills were very basic. Any new hairdresser can do the same job yet she is unreasonably expensive. I had to leave the salon very unsatisfied, shocked and incredibly disappointed. She made me feel like I wasted $300 I coulda spent on something else. What really hurt was when I emailed her letting her know I was unhappy with the results she replied back immediately saying she's not the hair stylist for me and I should find someone else and said the passive aggressive "sorry I can't make your blonde dreams come true". It was very rude and hurtful and she had no common curtesy to even apologize. A good hairdresser would offer to at least fix it but that'll cost her too much bleach I guess. It just seemed like she doesn't care about her clients happiness at all and is strictly in it for the money. I don't understand why all her reviews are mostly positive. I don't know if she pays someone to delete negative messages or what but I would not recommend her to my worst enemy. Don't be fooled by her "15 years experience" You can get a way better bank for your buck elsewhere. She doesn't care about you she just wants your money and she doesn't know how to blow dry. I also attached photos of her job below. The photos are taken in indoor and in sunlight with an iPhone camera and isn't a fake professional camera with special lights taken photos that have filters in them like the some of the pics she posts on here and her Instagram. I promise you she'll only post her best jobs and won't post her average everyday mediocre jobs. As you can see in the pics below my hair color barely changed and 4 inches down the roots are still not colored at all which is nothing like I wanted. I wanted my whole head colored and she didn't think to tell me she doesn't do that till she had half my head colored in foils. The whole time she was coloring my hair I tried to throw in comments saying she should color closer to my roots to which she just ignored completely. She's especially not good if you have thick ethnic or curly hair. She only knows how to do basic thin straight short hair that's already been lightened from the hair dresser before her. My first appointment with Stephany was for a major color correction. A friend (at a different salon) had tried to lift years of at-home box dye from my almost black hair, leaving me with 'hot roots' and too much color variation / damage for my liking. Stephany was able, in one visit, to lighten my hair and even out the color without doing any additional damage. My hair actually felt healthier after she colored it! During my consultation she made sure to thoroughly explain what to expect, and recommended that we lighten gradually over a period of months to avoid further damage. When my hair lightened to an orange-y red we decided to embrace it, and she gave me the coppery-orange ombreyage of my dreams. I literally have strangers approaching me to compliment my color (often), she's that good. I tend to go about 2 months between visits and my color stays super vibrant. The person who was doing my hair before was bleaching my hair (I was full platinum at the time) and leaving me under the dryer for long periods of time. She also started getting kinda sloppy with the cut and after she would bleach it, there would banding in my hair (strips of my root showing randomly in my hair). Stephany is a hair color genius! She's truly knowledgable on hair color, and explained the entire process it would take for my natural dark brown hair to lighten into an ash blonde color. She asks what you want exactly done to your hair (at this point I showed her a picture on my phone), and then she began to teach me about the process of lightening naturally warm, dark hair like mine to a cool, ash blonde ombré. she's very patient and nice when explaining, I wasn't afraid to ask her more questions. The outcome of my hair was subtly different from my original hair (aside from the length), but only too keep my hair as healthy as it can be for when she puts colors the ash blonde in December. Her salon venue itself is clean and exclusive. You have to walk into the door that says "Phenix salon suites" in order to find her salon. She lets you choose a movie, a tv show, or just music to play as she starts the process. While we waited for the color to set, she offered juice, water, or coffee. At the end of the appointment, she gave me 2 little travel-sized bottles of Paul Mitchell products for spending $200 on a service. Her recommendations are so helpful as well! She suggested the "It's a 10" miracle leave in product and Paul Mitchell super skinny serum on top or that right after the shower. It's worked wonders on my hair!
