Huevos con longanisa, 50 pesos.
Huitlacoche C.

Part of about 4 other restaurants in the same strip mall. Each serves a typical Mexican breakfast and selection of Yucatan food. Meals are fairly cheap, around 40-50 pesos. No beer though, but they will allow you to grab a beer at the nearby Oxxo or liquor store and drink at your table.

Of course, while you wait to have your order taken or your food to come out, the drinks are flowing. No problem with that service. When I got my food, it was pretty good, but a little expensive. I enjoyed the tortilla chips and salsa. The house made guacamole was delicious, though.

For a place in such a popular destination, the prices were surprisingly reasonable. I'll admit I'm not usually a fan of mole, but their chicken mole enchiladas are an A+. Perfectly balanced and absolutely satisfying. The cochinita pibil - slow cooked suckling pig marinated with anatto, and bitter orange was spot on, bursting with bold, authentic flavors. And the queso fundido with longaniza (not chorizo, mind you) was rich, melty, and absolutely delicious. All that for around $45 for two. Definitely a win.

I was trying to talk to my husband about things while a sales associate was right on our tail to suggest more things for us to buy that we had no interest in. The food buffet when we came back was okay. There were limited options and only one dish stood out as being tasty was the shredded pork. They had two different groups of dancers who danced for maybe two minutes and then went around asking for tips. Then the server came back around telling everyone that the dancer tips and server tips are separate. The "servers" were not present at all except when they sat us and asked if we wanted drinks and dropped them off.

It's a rather large space with many different souvenirs, at a somewhat decent rate. I wound up buying an overpriced pack of six Mexican Tequilas to give to some of my colleagues and some candy for my daughter. The staff here wasn't overbearing but they stand close by and swoop in to give you a ticket with their name-- I guess to receive credit for the sale, although they provided absolutely no assistance. When we came for lunch, the lines were a little confusing because people were just standing all over the place. Finally, when we did get our food, I only wanted rice and black beans, both of which were good. We also were provided a glass of Horchata, I've never had it before but decided to drink it-- I was very impressed and actually liked it.
