    Chile relleno de cochinita
    Fernando A.

El Atrio del Mayab caught my eye because I wanted to try cochinita pibil, a slow cooked pork dish from the yucatan/mayan cultures. I had mine stuffed in chile rellenos, which gave it some extra flavor. I liked it, especially with the handmade tortillas, pickled onions, and some habanero salsa. My wife had a local chicken dish with a sweet white sauce. I had a bite. It was rich and sweet, but not heavy. We both had yummy mezcal cocktails and some guacamole (third day in a row) to start. Altogether, I was happy with El Atrio. It was good to try a local dish, and the garden patio was very pleasant.

WARNING! This restaurant hosts lots of Asian guests but they are not Asian friendly. My wife paid our check with credit card and the waiter added a 15% tips himself on the pos machine without even asking. We noticed that the guests from east asia may struggle with the tipping culture and the staff are likely to find them less profitable to serve. But it is NOT right to force or deceive the tipping into our bill.

Coming here for the second time when I'm in town. This is not a tourist spot actually quote the opposite. Nice outdoor seating under trees with the church right next door. We ordered the Cochinita Pibil with fresh hand made tortillas. Everyone enjoyed their food and the drinks. A little pricey but worth it. Great ambiance and service. We also ended up with a new friend.

This place is a gem. The staff was really helpful and came quickly. My friend got a glass of wine and I got an Aqua fresco that was absolutely delicious. We ordered the lobster bisc to start and that was just creamy and yummy with a nice amount of spice.. It's the same sauce they put over the xKitic chicken. I ordered the esbeche oriental and she got the beef pibil. We were happy with their our food & the appetizer was nice surprise. I loved the dark salsa. The other was the local pumpkin seeds smashed up. Very tasty. She got the house red wine which was served cold. That's the first I've ever seen red wine cold The star of the show where is the location in the back it had a great atmosphere and lots of trees and open air really inviting and lit up well.

Ambience is very laid back. Indoor/outdoor seating! Beautiful restaurant and garden area. I ordered the salmon with sweet potato puree and the rice. The salmon was extremely dry and tasteless. The sides were outstanding..well the rice could have been a little fresher, but it tasted deelish. I wanted to give it 5 stars, but either they dont care about the food or they have a cook that doesnt know how to cook... salmon.

This place is in the heart of Valladolid and what a hidden gem it is! Walked by this place daily and finally decided to stop by early in the morning as nothing else opened for breakfast. You walk into a secret patio/garden where you are seated to enjoy a great meal surrounded by plants and trees all around. Best of it all; it is next to the cathedral! Ordered longaniza con huevo with black beans and these black beans were one of the best i've tried ever! My breakfast meal came with toast, however as the Mexican that I am, I ordered tortillas and this really made my breakfast feel like I was home. The hibiscus(jamaica) jam was so delicious and a great compliment with my coffee. I even purchased a couple jars to take home with me but were taken away at customs at the airport since I did took on my carry-on luggage last minute.... Service was great despite it being so early in the morning. Great place for breakfast!

The food in this place is to die for, we have been frequenting this place for a few years now and it just never dissapoints. I will have to say that the prices have drastically gone up, so comming here is really a way to treat ourselves. We usually order the Papadzules, the Chochinta or Chamorros Pibil and this time we added a new dish called Sikil Pak. The restaurant has a very charming outdoor seating and at night it is illuminated by candles. I do recomend having some bug spray on or the mosquitos will terrorize your legs. You can also sometimes see a passing by turtle or a friendly cat saying hello. The service this time was not the best, and the reason why I put this down at 4 stars. I had to request a couple of things a few times, and though it was not a very busy time of the day for them, we were ignored for the most part. I really do recomend the flavors of this place!

If I remember correctly, this is Primavera.

Hands down one of the best meals I have ever eaten in my life! Make sure to bring pesos though because it is cash only. The ambiance in the garden is absolutely delightful. The lighting is really low at night, but it's light enough to see your menu and food, and it's charming. We ordered the guacamole to start, which was made table side and served with habanero on the side. It really hit the spot, especially with the fresh house made chips. The avocado was at the perfect ripeness and the flavors in the mix, perfectly balanced. I initially wanted to try a variety of different drinks, but once I ordered my second, Atrio, I didn't want to drink anything else...and have been thinking about that cocktail since. It was very flavorful, yet light and refreshing, and pretty potent! For my entree I ordered the Pulpo Zací. This was by far the best pulpo I have ever eaten in my life! It was seasoned and cooked to perfection. And the rice and veggies on the plate were also quite delicious. Being that everything was so incredible, I kind of regret not ordering dessert here. Next time!

Excellent find! Coming back from Chichén Itzá, we decided to eat local, and what a great gem of a spot to land! Located in the heart of the city, the restaurant ambiance was the first thing to stand out--very nicely done, inside and out. The food itself was also terrific, and most definitely exceeded our expectations. Gourmet-level food, tasteful presentation, and kind service... a must!

Came to this place because it happened to be open late, didn't expect much, but happens to be DELICIOUS! We ordered the pasta chipotle with shrimp which was not spicy but had a Smokey flavor and the pasta Alfredo which was super creamy. For drinks the pina margarita we got was absolutely delicious!!!!! This place is very nice, the outdoor seating has a unique view to the catedral and a fountain in the middle that provides a nice background noise. Our server Hilario was amazing, he was always around when needed, and even fixed a mistake on hour tab quickly. I would de finely love to come here again if I'm ever to travel to the magical city of Valladolid one more time. The restaurant is more on the pricier side, there's definitely menu items that are pricey. Because of the price this place is filled with mostly tourists.

Great location, beautiful outdoor garden seating and the best food and drinks but please remember CASH only!We were so late getting here for a quick lunch before heading to Chichen Itza. we loved the relaxing space and had our drinks we got the hibiscus tea, green smoothie and mezcal berry drinks. Got our food to go and it was the best to go food presentation ever. My shrimp tacos tasted so good, everyone throughly enjoyed their meal and the freshly made tortillas were to die for. We will certainly revisit!!

We visited El Atrio del Mayab during our visit Chichen-Itza and nearby town of Valladolid. It was a Monday at around 1:30 PM. They asked us if we wanted inside or outside. We took a quick tour of the outdoor, which was very nice, but we were a bit hot an preferred the cooler indoor sitting. We were proposing shown to a table. They had a large party on the table next to us, so we had to wait a bit. I was getting concerned, but once they started serving us, the service was attentive and stayed on top of everything during our visit. The ambiance is simple and classy. No too fancy, but a bit more traditional that the usually colorful mexican decor. A very relaxed atmosphere. They brought us some some chips and 3 different type of salsa. The food was excellent. We had some cocktails, a bottle of mineral water, some Cochinita Pibil, a grill chicken salad with cheese name after the restaurant "Atrio Salad", my wife had the Octopus Zaci, and I had the Salmon a la Yacateca. Everything was delicious. By the time we finish, we were stuffed and happy we went to El Atrio for lunch during our visit. We recommend it if you are in the area.

Our guide brought us here for authentic Mayan cuisine. The empanadas and the Mayan roll were our favorites.
