Second or third visit this past Saturday evening. From the looks of it, post covid, the business, notice I did not say restaurant, is doing a thriving take out business. That is nice to see. We have done take out and dined in. The food is ok for a detuned Mexican restaurant trying to thrive within a subculture which is not aware of the great taste of properly prepared spicy meals. That said, the food is mostly acceptable. I have tried three different menu items and my most recent the Chimichanga was poor, although it did have some good components. Their beans are above average. The chicken which was suppose to have been present, must have escaped prior to completion of the item, as it had a total of three pieces of chicken, one of which was very tough, which leaves basically two pieces of chicken. My wife had the Nachos with Asada, they were better than average, however the Asada was very overcooked, and cut into small square bits and difficult to chew. Dont waste your money on the $4.00 upcharge for the Asada, as it is not worth it. The Nachos without the Asada would have been very good. We drank bottled water. You can get Coke from Mexico, which we have had in the past and many times prior, as children growing up in Mexico. There is a soda fountain. This business does not sell alcohol. Which may be a reason why when driving around downtown Plattsburgh you see restaurants jammed with patrons and not this place. However, there may be a second reason for no inside patrons. This business does nothing to promote inside eaters to be treated like a customer. If you want to eat inside, you get no table service. Food is provided in take-a-way containers, plastic forks and spoons. No table water. No complimentary table chips and salsa. The music is not what you might expect traditional Mexican and Spanish, but a local radio station, wow what a bummer. The overall eating experience is more akin to a picnic where you have to share your neighbors music whether you like it or not. The staff are very pleasant and if properly utilized could easily enhance ones eating experience. My suggestion for this place is to find a smaller store front and do take out only. Ditch all the square footage, you do not know how to manage and use. As for us, we may get an occasional take out in the future, but we are going to focus on other Plattsburgh restaurants who want their customers to come in and join them for the eating experience they have to offer. read more

It's an unfortunate circumstance when food at a restaurant is great but the service is unacceptable. Today was the third time in the last few months I have ordered there and it will be my family's last. I will give credit when due, but each time the food was not prepared in a reasonable time and should you have plans for after a meal, forget them. I placed an order online today at 10 am for at noon-ish pick up. When I arrived at my pre-scheduled time I received nothing. They first denied I submitted an order, even when I provided an emailed receipt as proof. I asked for a refund as I had limited time to wait and had to return to work. It took another few minutes to even find that my order was actually sent and they just never made it. No apologies. No trying to make it right. A quick "must have been a technical issue, here's your refund." That's it. I love to support local establishments but at this rate, they are just such a disappointment. 10/10 would NOT recommend. read more

A hidden gem in Plattsburgh, Lomeli's is our new favorite spot. It's off the beaten path a bit, but most good local spots are. Lomeli's is currently located in the Big Lots plaza all the way in the back. But Armando says they're moving soon to a better location on Oak St. We came just after "lunch hour" at around 1:30, and had absolutely no wait. Armando was attentive and friendly, the kind of jovial owner/operator I appreciate. The place is brightly colored and cozy, and I was surprised how comfortable the benches at the booths were. Our only complaint about the atmosphere is that it was a bit chilly at our seat next to the window, but it's wintertime in the North Country. The food came quickly, and was incredible. I can't say enough good things about the food here. Nothing we ordered was subpar. It's obvious that this family takes pride in their food, and so good at what they do. For the two of us, the bill came to $44. We ordered the chicken enchilada casserole, a garbage burrito, guacamole fries, chips and salsa, and 2 canned sodas. FINALLY! I have finally gotten to this restaurant for dinner. Awesome! I should have known by the group of people who were sitting in the restaurant waiting for take out at 3:00 pm in the afternoon! Most restaurants are not too busy at that time. This is a good sign. I ordered the special, shrimp tacos. I believe that they are the best I've ever had. I also had part of a "Wet Burrito" with Asada. I didn't care for the red sauce that is on the very top, but everything else was outstanding. It's very clean, kitchen and table area. This review is solely for the carne asada fries. I'm sort of a snob when It comes to carne asada fries. I'm from San Diego, ca. If you didn't know, that's where this particular dish originates. We have "taco shops" (that is what we call It back home) on every block corner basically that serves some variation of carne asada fries. Anyhow, It was crazy for me to actually find a place up here that serves It. I've been living in New York for about a year and have been dying for some San Diego style mexican food. I think I saw the owners were from California, LA? Or something like that. So I figured heyyy this place has to be legit right? Well on to the fries. Let me just construct this for you. You have a pile of fries, top It with the carne asada, cheese, sour cream & guac. Not the healthiest dish but it's sooo good if you do It right. I guess I can't knock em, because they actually are out here trying to sell It. But for me personally It didn't satisfy my craving like I thought. It honestly tasted like store bought daisy sour cream. And the guac didn't seem fresh or homemade. The fries were extremely crispy. Like crispy where it's hard to chew and there wasn't any fluffy potato in the middle anymore. I didn't like the cut of the fries with this either. The meat was okay. I tasted more salt than any other seasoning. I have remade carne asada fries in my home before, and It tasted better than this. Im sorry to say, but It tastes like It was made to serve more of the "american" palate. Rather than being truly authentic Mexican flavors. I think that is my big issue with the Mexican restaurants that aren't in San Diego lol. Everything is catered to the more dare i say "gringo" or "Tex mex" type of flavors. My husband and a couple friends went to Lomeli's last night. We decided to stop in for the 'All You Can Eat' buffet. For $15, you get a mix of entrees, and are welcome to order more than one plate... Or so they claim. It took about thirty minutes for our original order to arrive - half of it, anyway. Myself and my friend both got our food at the same time. The rest of the table had to wait another 15 minutes. It took just as long for our waitress to bring us utensils. We decided to put in a second order. Just about an hour later, our second round of food still had not come. We asked the waitress about it, and were told that it would be at least another 15 minutes. We decided to cancel the order, and leave. I've heard their food is good, though the experience really ruined it for me. We were in the restaurant for upwards of 2 hours, and left both hungry, and annoyed. It looked as if most of the restaurant felt the same. When we finally left, not a single table in the restaurant had food. After last night, I will not go back to Lomeli's. read more

Very excited to try this place as there are not many Mexican restaurants in Plattsburgh. I came in with my three granddaughters and there was no children's menus. So we had to order adult size and entrées for them. We had to pay almost $10 for an order of chips and salsa and then an additional seven dollars for a small bowl of guacamole the chips were good but overcooked as some of them were dark brown. The owner was very pleasant and helpful. It took would seemed like a normal amount of time to get our food once we ordered it. While we were waiting some children that must have been related to the owners or the workers in the restaurant and gave us a religious pamphlet to read about Jehovah witnesses. I ordered the nachos and my nachos had rice beans and a smattering of Carne Asada on them. The carnet Asada was extremely salty and dry. There were absolutely no fresh vegetables on my nachos such as onions tomatoes cilantro or jalapeños. It was a hot carbohydrate mess in addition the chips for those were also overcooked. My husband ordered taquitos with rice and beans and the portion size was good but the taquitos or bland. That taquito's were covered in guac no salsa or sourcream. My other daughter ordered the garbage burrito with Carne Asada and got through half of it and still didn't find the meat. She ate mostly rice beans french fries and tortilla. No sauces for the burritos such as salsa or sour cream. Just a giant burrito on a plate. The portion sizes were all good. The food you got for the price you paid was not equal. I felt like I paid most of my money for tortillas beans and rice. My granddaughters ordered quesadillas and tacos and they were satisfied with them. They came with one small cup of sour cream. I asked if I could get some salsa to put on my nachos and was told I would have to pay two dollars for a 2 ounce cup or five dollars for another bowl which was probably the equivalent of one cup of salsa. Which was nothing to really write home about I have made better salsa. So I ate my dry rice nachos with my dry salty beef on them and swallowed sadness. When we were finished and ready to go we had to wait for the check. We finally tired of waiting and went up to the front to pay for it but only after standing in line waiting for somebody else to place an order. They were also out of orange soda and one of my granddaughters wanted to order the pork tacos but they said they weren't ready at that time. There were three adults and three small children who were eating in our party and we paid $120. Very disappointing, should have gone to chipotle. I hate to say it but it was just one little step up from Taco Bell. I like to be supportive of small businesses but the small businesses have to put forth more effort than this. I got the fat girl fries. The food was not horrible, but it was extremely salty. I drank two water bottles while eating this in the first 15 minutes. I didn't even finish it due to it being so salty! If it was less salty I would have been able to taste more of the actual flavor of the food. The guacamole was not good and it just seemed like they put a packet in mixed with some avocados. We arrived at 7:45pm, and they close at 8. As soon as we realized this we figured that we were out of luck. But no, the waitress (owner possibly?) said no trouble at all and seated us right away. My 2 daughters (11 & 8) loved that the tables are painted with chalk board paint, and a cup of colored chalk sat on the table. Brilliant! They sat happily drawing while we waited for our food. We ordered salsa, chips and guacamole to munch on as we waited for our entrees. The guacamole was different than any other I have had before. It was smooth, creamy and seasoned lighly, so the avocado was the main flavor.... delicious. The salsa was chunky, with tomato, avocado and cilantro as the main flavors coming through. Very unique and we really enjoyed it. Chips were flour tortillas, fried in house. Crunchy and so good. Entrees didn't disappoint: chicken falutas and asada burrito were excellent. Kids liked their meals as well : cheese quesadilla & fish tacos. Refried beans were awesome, so flavorful. It's okay for Plattsburgh. Their tacos are prepared very much the same way that authentic ones are prepared in Mexico. However, they lack the flavor and variety that is offered in more diverse regions of our country. I am from Miami where 100% real deal, authentic cuisine from all over Latin America and the Carribean is offered, and not dumbed down for the American palate. I believe Lomelis has the know how and potential to put out a more authentic and diverse menu. It would be refreshing if that was available in Plattsburgh. How about some Mole (not the rodent people) or Chile Relleno? Maybe Tacos De Lengua, or some real deal Tacos Al Pastor or Barbacoa. I'd also like to see their business hours expanded a bit. Lomelis does the small things that takes an ordinary taco plate to the next level. Going off the Yelp suggestions I went with the carne asada, which was probably the weakest part of the plate. It was a little salty and a tad over cooked but still a nice filling for the corn tortilla. Add in refried beans and rice for a taco plate. First bite of the rice and there was something different, different good. Not a simple Mexican rice box mix. Onions and roasted cloves of garlic made this the best Mexican rice I have ever had. Refried beans were cooked well, not too dry. Also ordered chips and guacamole. The guac was unlike any I had ever had. Smooth and thin, almost like a sauce. Not the traditional thick/chunky guac I was used to, combine that with house made chips, I couldn't put it down. Lomelis was a little on the pricey side for tacos with this meal coming in over $17, thank goodness it was a solid plate of tacos. read more
