Upsetting and disappointing. I have never written a review before, but the experience I
had at this place has forced me to. My husband and I were visiting Bournemouth for the first
time, a nice romantic getaway. After trying several restaurants (that were
fully booked) we ventured in to Lolita's bar. We'd been 'tricked' by all the 'excellent'
and 'good' reviews it had and hadn't bothered to read the 'poor' or 'terrible'
ones. BIG MISTAKE. I have never in my life experienced anything like this. We were
seated at the bar and it took 15 minutes before we were asked for our drink
order. We thought ok, we are on holiday! and just enjoyed each other's
company. To cut a long story short, we had been there for 45 minutes, our food
order hadn't been taken yet, two tables on either side of us had arrived later than
us and been served before us. When I pointed this out to the owner, she threw
(yes THREW) her notepad on our table, stormed off and yelled that she wouldn't
be serving us. To quote her 'she can't stand arrogant Spanish people who don't
have patience and won't wait.' My husband and I were in shock! She herself is Spanish
and so is my husband. When she returned
to tell us again that she wouldn't be serving our table, that we cannot expect
things to be served to us whenever we want it, I pointed out to her that she
cannot generalise people this way and that being the owner of this restaurant
she shouldn't be rude to customers (or anyone for that matter). She then
continued to have a rant, yes a RANT at us. We asked for the bill to leave as
we couldn't stand having her yelling at us and ruining our evening. I
eventually got upset (from the frustration of this treatment more than
anything) and she immediately started to offer us freebies and telling us that
we should stay and she'd look after us, we were Spanish after all. Needless to say, we left immediately, disappointed, upset
and concluding that this woman needs to lay off whatever she's taking because
she's a liability to herself, her restaurant and the customers in it. Truly disappointing. Lesson learned though always read the
