Best paella I've had in a long time. They incorporate so many types of seafood so well and they are all cooked to perfection. It is so difficult to have so many evenly cooked types of seafood. Sit on the side patio- such a quaint spot for a quiet dinner read more

The food was really good - especially the caprese salad, the calamari steak, the paella, and the sangria. The service was a bit scattered as they were not prepared for guests when they were supposed to open (and we had a reservation) at 5:30. But our actual server was excellent. read more

Outdoor dining done right. This was my first time at Lola's but certainly won't be my last. Came for the first time to try out the new brunch menu after hearing rave reviews and now I can confidently say that I see that the hype is about. First things first, I LOVED the outdoor seating setup. It was so cute and perfect for brunch. We had a reservation and were able to be seated right away. All servers were wearing face masks and tables were spaced out appropriately. Our server Ellis was AMAZING. He gave good menu recommendations, was attentive, and took great care of us during our time there. We started off with the flamenquin (fried pork loin stuffed with prosciutto and cheese) and a round of mimosas. The flamenquin was quite yummy and surprisingly not too heavy considering the ingredients. There were four to an order so it was perfect for sharing. For our main dishes my party got the Angel's Special, breakfast platter, and Spanish Benedict. The steak in the Angel's Special was cooked perfectly, the manchego grits that came with the platter were the star of the show, and the Spanish Benedict was all-around good. The only thing I wished we'd had was some butter for the biscuit, but we were so busy enjoying everything we forgot to ask! This is a great spot to come for brunch; they also have bottomless mimosas if that's your thing (it's most certainly mine and they were good and our server kept them flowing ). I'm eager to come back and find out how delicious the dinner menu. read more

Lola's is properly social distancing with 3-4 indoor tables and about 7 outdoor tables. We opted to sit inside and luckily we were the only table our entire meal. It was so nice! Onto the food, we ordered the garlic mushrooms and meat paella to share. Our server also brought us bread and the most addicting garlic aioli to dip. I couldn't stop eating it! My date ordered the duck breast and I had the spicy shrimp pasta. Everything was delicious, except for the duck breast. There was a fig reduction sauce on top of it, but it just tasted like cold bbq sauce which was really unexpected. This is a really cute neighborhood spot and the last time I was here was about 10 years ago. So cheers to you, Lola's! So happy to still see you doing so well. read more

This is such a cute brunch spot! Service was super quick and friendly and we had the perfect table on the sidewalk and the weather couldn't have been more perfect. I was hesitant to order the Pan Con Tomate because it was not my favorite thing when I was in Barcelona, but it was delicious here! The bread was light, crispy and not soggy! The Angel's Special was a great price for a lot of good! Steak, salad, two eggs and fries! The Manchego Grits were very disappointing. They sounded so good, but it didn't have a strong cheese flavor or any flavor at all for that matter. But highly recommend the other dishes and for a nice brunch spot! read more

Popped into this spot for a late Sunday night dinner and let me tell you all about it! My friend gang and I all used the yelp free sangria coupon which I totally recommend everyone to try if the promotion is still available by the time you are reading this. I ordered the white sangria and it was delightful. Both the red and white sangrias were the perfect amount of sweet. For an appetizer, we ordered the crabmeat tropical and this salad was LOADED with fresh avocado and the crab meat was of really great quality. Flavors were banging. We also ordered the vegetarian paella. In this case, the flavors were not banging. The dish tasted pretty flat. Not to say that we did not eat it all -because we did. Just for ~$50, I think my friends and I were expecting something a bit more magical. Let me tell you about the service though! The service was great. We were seated in just a few minutes (which was pure luck because we did not have a reservation). Our lovely waitress was attentive and helpful and everyone working was just awesome. To sum up: I would come here again to try another tapas appetizer, but I am not really interested in ordering paella again (which is a little disappointing.) But also: great cocktails, cute environment. 3.7/5 stars. read more

I was so excited to try Lola's new delicious brunch menu! I got the cold brew, along with the pan con tomate & the sweet apple calas to start. Food-3.5 Ambiance-4 Service-5 My boyfriend and I were looking for a little romantic place to eat for Valentine's Day, and this year he put me in charge of picking the restaurant. As directed by the previous reviews, we ordered a bottle of sangria, which was delectable and ran for about $16 I believe. I wanted to have garlic shrimp for an appetizer but my boyfriend hates garlic, so we settled for the ceviche, which was pretty good. My boyfriend had some kind of fish that he really enjoyed and I had the seafood paella. The paella just didn't seem all that flavorful, but maybe that's how paella's are supposed to be‍ The food wasn't amazing for me, but I believe that it's due to the fact that maybe spanish food isn't my favorite. If I have a paella that I really enjoy, I'll let y'all know (which means I'll have to knock a star down) read more

My first thought was it is a small restaurant. We got there a few minutes before they opened but the smells wafting out of the kitchen and spilling out onto the sidewalk was making my mouth water. They make up for the small interior but expanding their seating to outside, around the corner of the building and down the sidewalk. They even have tables set up in front of the house next door. Plenty of lighting and warming lamps set up near the tables, creating a welcoming and intimate environment. There is subtle music playing in the background that is just loud enough to appreciate but not so loud that you can't carry on a normal conversation. I went with two other people and we shared plates. It was a great way to get a taste of many flavors. We started off with the ceviche, crabmeat tropical and antipasto. The ceviche had great flavor but the shrimp was a little tough. Not sure if it was made with fresh shrimp or frozen. In comparison, the crabmeat tropical was less flavorful than the ceviche but still good. The antipasto tray was superb. I ordered the fabada soup and was knocked over because it tasted so delicious! I could have ordered five more bowls. We also tried the pistolettes, little buns served with garlic butter. I could have eaten twelve more of them by myself alone. We also ordered the Pisto which is made with portabella mushrooms and vegetables, and two different paellas, meat and seafood. I like that there is different sizes of paella you can order. All three dishes were delicious and portions large enough, there was enough left over for lunch the next day. For dessert, we tried all three: flan, almond nougat ice cream and chuflan (a flourless chocolate cake). They came out on the same plate and honestly, I wish I didn't have to share. Will definitely have to come back and try again. Maybe brunch next time. read more

Lola's never disappoints. I've been coming here for years highly recommend squid, mussels, and shrimp. Lots of fun apps I could go back again and again and never get bored of this menu. Fresh ingredients tastes are exquisite! While the paella is the winning dish, I wasn't impressed with the paella last night. We got the veggie and seafood combo. It was kinda fishy and not something I would get again. However, the meat combo may be a better choice. Lola's has expanded their seating and done a beautiful job at adapting to covid guidelines during this tough time, for that I applaud them. Lola's also takes reservations and offers brunch. Lola's just keeps getting better and better. Can't wait to see what great dishes or specials this place has in store. read more

Lola's - Seafood and veggie paella - Spanish Near Me - New Orleans, Louisiana

For a place that specializes in paella, you'd think they'd know how to make plain rice, but it was either dry because undercooked, or it was scrapings from the bottom of the pot. Terrible. For ALL who had it, so no fluke. And we were there on a Thursday, but both the rainbow trout and tuna steak definitely tasted like they were from last week. Those who ordered were afraid to eat it, it tasted so fishy. I wish we'd sent it back, but my young companions don't like to do that kind of thing. Told our waiter, who brought us a complimentary order of dessert. But that was not enough to remedy an awful (inedible!) meal for half our group, or incline us ever to return. NOT CHEAP... and generally busy! So what is the draw? Lamb stew was good and fettuccine was okay, but too much of a crap shoot on the kitchen. read more

I'm only in New Orleans for a brief visit which is a shame. I wanted to try so many things on the menu at Lola's and won't have an opportunity to sample everything. I knew before I ever left Birmingham that I wanted to eat here, though--the garlic soup called me name from two states away. I called five weeks ago to make reservations, but when I got here tonight they had no record of my reservation. Nevertheless, they seated me without any problem, apologizing for misplacing it and never doubting my word. I was worried for a moment, as I REALLY wanted to try to garlic soup. It didn't disappoint. I've had wimpy garlic soups before where I think the chef may have waved a garlic clove over the pot and that was it. This stuff is the real deal. Vampires need not apply. If I thought I could have gotten away with it I would have snuck into the kitchen and stuck a straw into the stock pot and just started sucking. When Mike, my server, brought out some bread it came not with a pat of butter, but with what I know as "toum" a garlic paste. I'm not sure what they call it at Lola's--all I know is it was more garlicky deliciousness. For my entree I had the meat fideuas The bits of chicken were a little larger than I cared for, but what the heck--that's why God made knives, right? It was well seasoned and even though i ordered the small portion, it was more than I could eat. I'm not usually a dessert person, but I had some chocolate flan for dessert--way too rich for my taste. This is a dish best shared. I wasn't able to finish it, good as it was. I was very impressed with the COVID precautions the staff embraces. I'll be sure to come back to Lola's on my next trip to NOLA. read more

I eat here once or twice a year when in town and have been an occasional customer here for at least 20 or more years. Dining alone at Lola's is usually disappointing. The service is disjointed and slow. The food is not as good as it once was. Dining with a group is preferred, yet the service is still slow. The food disappointing. Not sure what's going on here, because it's truly an awesome spot, yet one which has lost its luster. The biggest issue may be the short attention span of the servers, which may be the product of inadequate management. read more

First date night after Covid quarantine and we were craving Lola's, specifically some ceviche and paella. Lola's is being so good with providing a clean atmosphere and socially distanced tables. I ordered the seafood paella and my boyfriend got the tuna- both were delicious and cooked to perfection. read more

Love the yelp check in here for a free Sangria. We came here for our anniversary. My husband and I decided on a Spanish family restaurant. We chose this restaurant because it was romantic and intimate. The service was excellent and I loved the bright & colorful wall art by Simon of New Orleans. Let's start with the red homemade Sangria. I have been following their Instagram for a while. The Sangria did not disappoint. It was filled with fresh fruit and not too sweet. I drank two glasses. It was pretty good. The restaurant sit's across the street from some very popular restaurants, but don't let that fool you. Guests were constantly coming in to eat. This place is a gem in the Bayou St. John area. For starters, we ordered Mussels in Vinaigrette. The mussels were large and steamed in a homemade vinaigrette. I really enjoyed the flavor of the dish. We also enjoyed the bread served with Lola's famous Garlic Alioli spread. That spread was so tasty! I enjoyed the whipped flavor of it and the taste. The main course, my husband and I got Paella. He ordered the combination and I ordered the seafood. The seafood had shrimp, fish, calamari, scallops, mussels and veggies with herbs. The combination included meat and seafood paella. The paella was so flavorful and the seafood was so fresh. I really enjoyed the shrimp and fish. We had plenty to take home with us. Thank you Lola's for making us feel at home with your romantic restaurant filled with amazing food. read more

Its been many years since I have been to Lola, 20 +. Most likely the original owners were cooking back then. Wonderful little place that was unique in NOLA. I had been meaning to return for a long time and finally did. We went with a group of 5. The place has been updated, still small but lots of outdoor seating. We sat inside and even though it was June, it had been cloudy that day and pleasant enough to sit outside. Looking at the menu I noticed there were no appetizers under $10 and no entrees under $20. I was fine with that but thought the food better be good at those prices. I also questioned the spanish origins of some of the selections. We started with a couple of appetizers. Ceviche was good but not great. It came ofna bed of lettuce so there was little of the 'juice' let on the seafood so it was kind of bland. The sauteed mushrooms were slightly overcooked and over-spiced, too salty. Someone ordered the garlic soup and liked it very much. Someone else ordered the gazpacho and was very disappointed. Not even close to the real thing as my friend spent quite a bit of time in Spain. More like a tomato basil, thick and heavy. Things were not going well and I did not expect that to change and sure enough... We shared at least a taste of each dish around the table. The rack of lamb was ok but not worth the price. No one cared for it. The cooked pork chop was, well, a pork chop, big and thick and not bad, it was served with mashed potatoes. Not very spanish i guess but then not easy to find anything on the menu that is. The paella was average at best. Sorry to throw shade on a beloved NOLA restaurant. The placed was busy for a June evening on a Tuesday so people must enjoy it. The service is excellent and the atmosphere is great. But I am picky and I know good food from bad, and LOLAs is just not that good. I wish them continued success. I hope they continue to pack them in but I wont be back. read more

WOWWWW! What a place! At first, it looks like a little hole in the wall spot. But once you walk in, the ambiance hits you instantly!! The food is incredible. We had the mussels in vinaigrette and ceviche chips, for the appetizer. For our main course we had the meat paella. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone in the greater New Orleans area. I would drive milessssss for this place. To end it. WOWZAAA. read more

Why is there not a 10 star rating option on Yelp?!? This place is a quaint little restaurant busting at the seams with flavor and character and deserves a 10! Their combination paella is what good dreams are made of and their mariscos and fabado soups leave me wondering if they offer it in 5 gallon drum sizes. We went for the first time for my boyfriend's birthday because it came highly recommended by a coworker of his...we drove about 45 minutes to get to New Orleans and then waited about 50 minutes for a table on a Sunday night but y'all...it was so incredibly worth it. Once seated, the server was so kind (even though it was her first night on the job) and she did a fantastic job waiting on us. The glasses of red sangria were just what we needed to kick off our meal and that bread and garlic aioli...oh my gawd. Someone give me a bucket to collect this drool! Point being...get your butts to Lola's and go indulge in some of the best Spanish cuisine that we've found! P.S. the little surrounding neighborhood is quite walkable and they will call you when your table is ready! Go explore while you wait! read more

Lalalalove lola's! We got the XL seafood paella and shared it amongst 5 people, and had the ceviche and the calamari as appetizers. I would have liked if the seafood in the ceviche were a bit more acidic and sharp, like the original ceviche is like in Peru. The calamari was interesting, as it was served as a block, and cut criss cross. Loved the flavor and texture, super on point! The seafood paella was just mouthwatering. Loved every bit of it! These three dishes were the perfect amount to share for us, definitely will be going back. read more

We were in town visiting friends, who chose this restaurant and we had a great time! My husband had the duck, I had the pork loin, and they were both delicious! We did also get the meat and cheese board, which I personally don't think is worth $25. I didn't go inside, but we sat outside and the ambiance was just lovely and picturesque. Enjoyed our first night in NOLA enjoying a nice dinner at Lola's. Outdoor tables are cute with bistro lighting. Our server, Bria, was fabulous, but staffing seemed light. Tiny dining room with local feel. Honestly wasn't crazy about any of the tapas so I ordered the pesto pasta and it was really good, nice and creamy. 5$ for added chicken is a bit ridiculous, though. The price is high but for the amount of seafood and flavor. Worth it. The last time we had delicious paella was in Barcelona and this is up there. We decided to try Lola's after seeing so many people on TikTok recommend it. It's such a cute space, we loved sitting outside on the sidewalk people watching. Also, the wait staff is great and checks in on you often. In terms of the food, their bread and garlic butter is such a good starter; I'd eat the butter by itself! For our main entrees, the shrimp pasta was fabulous, but the garlic chicken was super mediocre. It lacked a lot of flavor/seasoning which was unfortunate. read more

Lola's has a lovely ambiance and is located in a charming neighborhood near Bayou Saint John. The server was very nice. We didn't think the food was very good, though. The tortilla chips were stale, the ceviche was dry and tasted like it had been sitting in a fridge for too long. The Caesar salad lacked the anchovy flavor that makes it tasty. Then the paella.... The fish was fishy, the muscles also not fresh, and the rice was over cooked. It could have just been an off night. read more
