Super fun. Parked my polo-wearing ass here one Saturday eve for a few hours. Grumpy but attentive bartender, killer jukebox (Slayer? yes. Danzig? of course), and nice mix of local normcore types, gutter punks, and hipsters. Someone bought me a Lone Star, can't remember who, but left feeling great. Will be back. read more

When we pulled open the black door to the bright purple building with no sign, I automatically felt like I shouldn't be there. Very dark, very punk, very dirty, very perfect when I was 17. The whole vibe of the place makes me want to shoot pool while smoking inside, get wasted and start a fight. I heard it was cash only and relatively cheap so I stopped and pulled out $40. We only wanted a few drinks. Ordered a Vodka Cranberry and when he gave me my total I felt like a millionaire. $1.75. Seriously buddy? Once happy hour was over the drinks moved up to $3.25. Hannah L giggled when he gave her the total. It was a giggle of pure excitement and wonder. Even though while we were there we decided Lola's would not be a good place to come on a late Friday or Saturday, morbid curiosity has gotten the best of me, and I need to see what sort of trouble happens here. read more

SO cheap. Don't ask for a double. Everything's already a double. If you can snag a pool table, great. Don't be surprised if a seedy crackhead or an ole' cougar try to strike up a conversation on the back patio. Think safety in numbers.. Tried the Boudin balls, pretty damn good! read more

Very sketchy at first beings there is no sign and you basically feel like you are walking into a dark alley where you have no idea what to expect but beings the price for a vodka cranberry was only $1.75 it made up for it. Not crazy about the fact that its cash only but I will definately be returning for the entertainment i.e writing on the walls, locals. read more

Cheapest, grungiest, broken downest, stiffest drink having bar in all of town. You cant beat $1.75 PBR and pina coladas. Don't expect to remember your night or to feel clean at the end of it. Great for people watching, getting drunk, and practicing graffiti in the bathrooms. Oh and a helpful tip: $10 minimum on cards. read more

If you're having feelings of nostalgia for Emo's, this is the place to go...well, there's no stage or band, but the outdoor area reminds me of Emo's. If you want to spend half the night slamming cheap drinks made from even cheaper liquor, this is your place. Actually, I think mine may have had vodka? And since they didn't make doubles, I think at one point, a friend of mine and I had a drink in each of our hands. (I think that's the progression of cheap vodka logic...anyway, to continue.) If you want to spend the other half of the evening/next 48 hrs unable to make the entire planet and all of its contents stop spinning(!), you need to go to Lola's. As Houston Dive Bars go, Lolas HAS TO be the best and authentic.After visiting Lolas many, MANY times over the past (?) years, it has remained unchanged in that when you look at the bar patrons, there may be a businees man next to a punk rocker meth head, next to a local artist, next to a lesbian cowgirl, next to a college student.......and it goes on, and on. Veteran bartenders Gary and Danny have poured there a good 20 years now possibly?....and the legendary Kenny at the door and behind the bar is part of the charm of this place.I have played pool with a "Bandito" biker there, as well as a crossdresser who will kick your ass EVERYTIME in pool!.....one of my favorite stories about this dive is that on a slow Monday night years back, who is sitting there at the bar looking deshoveled" and like a local alcoholic...was Harry Dean Stanton the actor!.....quietly blending in!......this place is legendary when it comes to dive bars. read more

First time I came here, loved the color and style of this bar, It's a great place to chill with friends and drink.

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Lola's. An authentic "drug den" from the 60's, this place has all the temptation of your favorite vices. It's dirty, but oh so good! The drinks are cheap and it's cash only. 2 x $2 you-call-its, which for me is a Madras (vodka with cranberry and orange) is more than enough for me to need a cab and a scrunchie. The drinks are seriously, served in 8 oz solo cups, with 7 ozs of liquor and a splash of your chosen mixer. This place is not for the uber-prissy- you'll find it dirty and like you're on Skid Row looking for the Prada store. My favorite thing about this bar is a quote written on the wood fence on the outside patio that goes something like "one fine day I turned my head and you went away". I've always wanted to take a marker and right something after that like "and I'll never forget" or something else Emo and dark. Anyways, try Lola's if you think you can hang. There's no sign so be forewarned you may get lost. read more

Lola's is Houston's dead brain cell, the result of too much glue huffing in junior high, or growing up on Houston air under an era of much laxer pollution laws. An establishment truly of its day with drink prices to match it. The most expensive item at the bar is the cigarettes at $7 a pack, and that's a pretty good price considering it's probably the only major price increase since the Clinton presidency. Jukebox plays Skatenigs, D.R.I., MDC, Big Boys, Scratch Acid, Butthole Surfers and other noise. My evening experience: a random woman told me that she was not pregnant, that it was just a lie someone told at the bar and "now everyone's saying it" and I watched another random person I was having a conversation with let their night-out all over the back porch floor and then continue on the conversation with ease as if they had just not puked their self in front of me. Easy to say that the patrons are very talkative, comfortable and memorable at this place. read more

It's my husband's favorite dive bar to go too. I personally can't stand this place! I think it smells like pee and really just don't like it. I refuse to step in here. But they have dirt cheap prices and strong pours which always make for an interesting night. read more

Love Lola's! It's my fave place to go for no frills SKRONG(yes I meant skrooong) drinks in Houston. There are a lot of interesting people who are equally as nice and friendly. Some people may be put off at first but I don't think there's another place like it in Houston. read more

Waking up hungover in Midtown and not wanting to get in the car had led to some predictable Sunday fundays. Last Sunday we decided to take the 4 minute drive to Montrose and a stroll down Fairview led us to this gem of a dive bar. It was sunny and it took some time for our eyes to adjust to the very dark interior. We were greeted by free hot dogs and nachos, and a very friendly bartender. The crowd was varied, but no one seemed to notice or mind. We had a wonderful time both on the patio and chatting up the bartender and interesting characters inside. Drinks were dirt cheap and the bloody Mary was delightfully spicy. Come as you are, unless you're a snob. read more

The diviest dive bar that I have EVER been in. Bartenders aren't that attentive/friendly, but the drinks were decent. The crowd at the bar was welcoming. They also have free hotdogs and nachos! I kept smelling cigarette smoke though we were in the front of the establishment and nowhere near the patio. Overall it was a decent experience. I'd go back if I were barhopping, but the cigarette smell is a def deal breaker if it reoccurs. read more

Love this little hole in the wall. Very cheap drinks and the bartenders definitely have a heavy hand! Best bathroom hands done. Not cause of the cleanliness or the size which is no bigger than Harry potters room under the staircase but for the abundance of toilet paper rolls on the wall. Lola's used to be my home away from home. But alas, all good things must come to an end. Oh, the stories I could tell you about Lola's. I do believe that Lola's is, by far, hands down, the best dive bar in Houston. Great drinks, if you love cheap and strong. Great bartenders, most of whom have been working there since Year One. Dilapidated pool tables that test your skills, as many a shark will tell you. With the exterior painted purple, the art, graffiti, nick knacks, mirrors and a host of stickers accent the decadent decor. One of the best juke boxes in town possessing a great variety of music. Nice patio with plenty of seating (and smoking). Eclectic and eccentric crowd. Regulars always there too. Always good conversation. Always good times. A local treasure that will always hold a piece of my heart. read more

Lolas is my favorite bar in Houston, I was introduced to it by my ex boyfriend and I fell in love with it the first time. It's not for the faint of heart, filled with graffiti and bumper stickers and with Christmas lights strung all year long. A cash only bar, where everyone seems to know one another. I LOVE me some Lola's! $1.25 beers till 10pm or something! Count me in! This place is THE legendary Houston dive, and I mean DIVE, but it's someplace you just have to experience. The bartenders are super friendly, there are a lot of colorful and nice regulars, all in all, a place that celebrates Houston in an off-beat, cool way. I always bring out-of-towners here for a good time, and it's always a big hit! Kind of annoying that it's cash only, but if I could I'd only take half a star away for that minor inconvenience. Looking for a dive bar and found this place. I have to give a low star rating for 2 reasons, there is no parking lot only 4 spots in front. The other is the bar tenders ignore you unless you are local. I was ignored even when waving arm and making eye contact. It was not until a local sat down and made conversation, confirming that the bar caters to locals that I was served without issue. It took me 45 minutes to get a beer to suddenly 2 minutes, unbelievable! read more

As a more than 20 yr patron, I can honestly say this is one of the best dive bars in Houston. I only go occasionally but I've always received a stout drink. Last time was an after birthday party gathering. All types can be found here which is what makes it great. I will say I don't get the well liquor, but their call brands are very reasonably priced as well i.e. cheap. Scenesters or yuppies please stay away! read more
