Once our drinks were set down, we were abruptly told to pay immediately. The server placed the receipt on the table and said, "Pay now, please." Meanwhile, customers sitting beside us were served drinks, and even food, without any such demand. When we questioned this difference in treatment, management claimed it was their normal policy. That statement was contradicted by what we observed in real time and by conversations with other patrons, who admitted that they had not yet received their check. Being singled out like that is uncomfortable anywhere, but especially in a space that claims to value equality and belonging. I'm sharing this so others are aware and so management understands how actions like this affect people, regardless of intent.

The Italian drinks are fun - we had the Negroni and the Aperol Spritz. Both were perfectly made and great! The place isn't too loud, so you can chill and hang out for awhile. On both nights there was some sort of catered event, so you had to hang out in the front. That was okay, as at least as the space is pretty comfortable. So...if you are looking for a nice place for a cocktail, go to Beige. But if you are expecting a Gay Bar, not so much! That's okay though, we enjoyed the place anyway.

Met up with a friend at Scholars bar to have a drink and catch up. It was my first visit so I…read morewasn't sure what to expect. I was pleasantly surprised because it is a little oasis away from the pizza and pasta that fills the streets in Rome. Yes, it's Rome and what does one expect, I get it. Still, it was a nice little break. When you step in you are transported out of Rome and into an Irish pub. Music, decorations, etc are all what one might find in a corner bar that calls itself an Irish pub. No, it won't fool true Irish pub-goers, but it's a passable way to escape the Aperol and wine of most of Rome. The bartender was nice and she took our order and told us to grab a seat and she delivered the drinks. It was about 6pm and they weren't busy and since I didn't see any other servers, it was nice that she did that. Overall, a nice little change of pace. If you need a break from all Rome all the time, maybe consider popping in here for a pint.

The door guy was friendly enough but didn't speak much English so we had to speak in gestures, but it was fine. The female bartender was nice and the poor was good. There was another worker who is a middle-aged guy with a dark beard and bandana who gave a lot of side eye and odd looks. Wasn't sure if he was checking us out or had major RBF, but either way, fix that face! Kinda made us uncomfortable and gave weird vibes. I hope it gets a little busier then this place would be good
