I can't say greasy oily meals aren't delicious but. .. the so called Mofongo was a mini vegetable pie with a bland plantain crust similar to tamale consistency. Presentation was lovely. Service was icy like the coke. To serve a quarter cup of grease can only afford a heart attack if enjoyed more than once a year I tried to check in on Facebook but I was immediately blocked. read more

Is there a six star option because this place is that good! I wasn't familiar with this place but I was nearby and it showed up on Yelp. Boy am I glad I tried this place! Everything is fresh, the portions are generous and the service is excellent! It has a unique blend of Caribbean, Puerto Rican, Mexican and South American. It hits quite well with all of these! I had the Molcajeta, which featured steak, shrimp, chicken, cheese, peppers, noplan (cactus) and a tomatillo sauce. Amazing! Every aspect of it was fantastic. The corn tortillas and the beans on the side were quite good too. My wife had the Mofongo which she said was the best she'd ever had. She's difficult to please when it comes to food. The steak was tender, the fried plantains were amazing and I will have a difficult time deciding whether to order this or the Molcajeta next time. The empanadas are a great appetizer. We had the cheese and the ground beef and both were worth ordering. My daughter loved the chicken sandwich, my son enjoyed the nachos and my two younger ones had the chicken strips and both were happy. I was so full I had to box half of mine, and I finally have leftovers to be excited about. Despite being full, I ordered the flan. My kids tried it for the first time and were impressed. My wife and I had dinner here tonight along with another area couple. I found the food good and the service was excellent. We shared a platter for two people which could have easily fed three,, A combination of many flavors. Food quality was fresh but I felt a couple of the items on the platter were tasteless and perhaps cooked earlier in the day and perhaps dry?? The fish cerviche was good... however it lacked a little "zing" ... it also did not come with chips, but they do give the table chips and salsa so I used those chips. One of my favorites for an enjoyable take out. The mufungo is good but not the best, a bit drier than others I had. I am not sure how the dish would be prepared if dining in but was surprised to find all of the Lulu Latins nacho toppings to have been packaged separately. While not expected, it made for a fun make your own nacho night. Shrimp a la diabla mofongo and anything made with penil (i.e. slow roasted pork) are my favorites. Was not a fan of the lobster empanadas. Staff are very friendly and service is always great. The restaurant is small so be patient if it's a busy night. My Wife and I just became aware of Lola B's recently although we live fairly close to Lexington, We decided to give Lola'a try and are so glad we did. She had the fish tacoe and I had the poblano peppers as well asa side of yucca fries. All were incredible IMO. We will be back very soon. read more

My husband and I have eaten here twice and both times we were pleasantly surprised with how good the food is. We have had both Mexican and Cuban dishes and agreed that everything is seasoned really well. We have had the chicken mole, chile poblano, carnitas, Cuban sandwich, and chicken verde enchiladas so far and everything has been excellent! Servers have been friendly and attentive each time. Very clean restaurant, excellent service, large servings. Unfortunately everything was very greasy; from the rice to the Cuban sandwich to the soggy fries. It was about 2-3 pm late lunch. So inside was comfortable cool and quiet. But the service and food was #1 in my opinion. We had the chicken with chorizo and mushrooms with a yummy bit of white queso dripped over it served with corn or flour tortillas. Also shrimp toestorones with avocado on it. Wonderful! On the sweeter side we had the can't timber proper name but it was the green plantains with a sweet sauce on it. Loved it. It also with the chicken dish it had rice with it also. So all that little rates of a couple of the many other things to choose from we enjoyed our lunch chatting in a great atmosphere and it was the perfect lunch out. I believe they have a couple of small bands for some relaxing music that I think play like two nights a week probably on Fridays. The staff was right on it with excellent service and very kind people. Would have been better if she understood us skittle better. No just kidding we figured out how to communicate pretty quickly. Food was tasty. Got mofongo with chimichurri steak. They brought the plate out and I asked where the chimichurri sauce for my steak was and he said they didnt have any. You would think they tell you that at the time you order in case you rather go with something else but no. I was so excited to try Lulu's as I love Latin cuisine. Unfortunately, my meal was terrible, I had the Camarones Al Ajillo (garlic shrimp), empanadas and sweet plantains. The empanadas were very bland/ didn't have much taste which was very disappointing. The garlic shrimp was made with frozen stir fry vegetables which were mushy and had a distinct frozen taste, another big disappointment. The sweet plantains were the only thing I enjoyed. My daughters ordered chicken and steak tacos they said they were decent. We got the sopapilla cheesecake for dessert and none of us liked it. read more

Lulu's might be hard to make out in the strip between all the other places there, but if you are looking for good, authentic, fresh, flavorful, tastes-like-grandma's-kitchen food in relaxed atmosphere, you should find them. Now! We went there on a date night with my husband, who is Puerto Rican, and attempted to order half the menu on sight. Everything was delicious, absolutely everything! I had the mofongo with tilapia for dinner with the sweet platanos, and LuLu's guac for appetizers. He ordered the carnitas fritas with white rice and yuca, and wanted to order another one for desert. Changed plans when we ordered the flan. That flan!!! Their cocktails were delicious as well. The owner came to chat for a bit, and the staff was beyond friendly and accommodating. We moved to the area three and a half years ago and without a doubt this was the best meal we have had out since. Found out they have live music on Wednesdays too! If I could fly I've this place 0 stars I would. My family and I were really excited to eat based on the reviews we saw on google... however, to be frank the food was terrible! Kraft bottled salad dressing, canned beans and needless to say the rest of the food was very bland. My family was starving so they ate most of their food. I on the other hand did not because I rather have grabbed some Taco Bell on the way home lol I didn't eat my dinner so I politely asked them to take my entree off the bill. What happened next was surprising... the manager came over and was disrespectful to my family and I. Anyways, the situation escalated from there cause I personally don't kindly to anyone being disrespectful to me or my family. Save yourself the time and go elsewhere... no hospitality and bad food. read more

Restaurant is VERY small. 10 tables basically. We were sat and waiting 10 minutes for menus before I just got up and asked for them myself. Service was terrible. Asked for sweet tea it was not sweet at all! Then asked for a Diet Coke, was told they were out. Settled on coke and it was extremely flat. My friend ordered an alcoholic drink and she was brought out the wrong one. Food was okay at best. Will not be going back that's forsure. read more

This was our second time to this restaurant. Our first experience was pleasant but this second go around was extremely disappointing ! Where should I even start No inside seating available so we allowed them to seat us outside but asked and were told that when a table inside becomes available we could have it (it was getting ready to rain and we had two small toddlers with us ) we reminded waitress various times that we would like a table inside. We never received a table even after she came out telling us they were getting us a table ready then proceeded to tell us they gave it to someone else all while our toddlers were getting rained on. Outside. We then order the sampler for 4 people the waitress told us it could take a few extra minutes due to it being a large amount of food we agreed but we never expended to wait an 1.5 for our food to come ! If that isn't enough already I asked for sweet tea and got unsweet then asked for a packet of sugar which they didn't have. After speaking with the manager who seemed to understand our complaint he took our checks and said he would return with some sort of discount (which would have at least made the experience a bit more pleasant ) but then proceeds to come out again with an attitude and hand us the same exact check for the same amount. The friend swig came with us never even got there food and by the time it was supposed to come out we were all ready to leave. They tried to charge them for undelivered food also . Hen teh manager was spoken too a second time he got mad and threw the food in the garbage ! Extremely unprofessional will not be back and will make sure others know wheee not to go . We were pleasantly surprised with our recent visit to Lulu's. Beyond the relaxed atmosphere and the attentive waitstaff, our meals rivaled the food we've experienced on our Caribbean vacations. I had the tilapia with mofongo and shrimp. The fish was nicely seasoned, the mofongo delicious and the shrimp plentiful. I especially enjoyed the sautéed fresh mixed vegetables that accompanied this dish. They were an appreciated improvement over the usual afterthought side. My wife said her Bistec Encebollado, (steak and onions), was a step up from her Puerto Rican mother's. My wife also enjoyed a Mojito for a true taste of the islands as well. We'll plan to be back one Wednesday night soon for live music night to add to the experience. read more
