As others have noted, she's knowledgeable about the books she has, she's friendly, and she prices her books very reasonably. I was looking for books on WWI for my husband, and she quickly found a newer one I knew he did not yet have. Then she went to her basement and found a vintage book that I thought I recognized from his collection. She suggested that I photograph it, then call her if I wanted her to hold it until we visit again in a couple weeks. I'm definitely taking my husband to this store when we go see our niece in a theater production. And what a wonderful community advocate the owner is! She said she'd be closed on Sunday, but that my niece could leave a poster for Hiram's theater production in the store's mailbox and she would hang it in the door. And here, I haven't even mentioned the wonderful variety of books which are so well organized!

Here's what Elizabeth's Bookstore does NOT have: - Any human people working there (booksellers? staff? nope!) - Chairs, sofas, or anyplace to comfortably sit and read a book - Bookshelves. Literally! There were displays, but no actual bookshelves. Hope you like one of the 20 preselected books? - Any sound cancellers or any other means of cultivating a non-industrial, bookshop-like atmosphere I don't really want to leave a 1 star review, because it is genuinely independent. And, it's associated with a writing center and hosted events in 647 Coffee (different location), which seem pretty cool! But I felt like I had to write something to give others a heads up. If you're looking for a great indie bookstore in Akron, unfortunately, this isn't it. Really not a place to peruse a selection of books, buy one, and hunker down with a coffee to read. They receive new books frequently, and carry an impressively wide array of books, especially for such a small store. Prices are great, owners are friendly, and it's even got a pretty generous loyalty program. The only downsides to me are just standard stuff. Sometimes you'll buy a book and sometimes the inside will be full of someone else's annotations. That's happened before, but it's just a risk of buying used rather than new. Same goes for potentially not having the specific book you're looking for. These are sort of universal problems for used book stores though, and are well worth it for all of the benefits. Absolutely worth your time, especially if you live nearby.

There's no longer a cat there, which is a little sad, but it does feel like a healthier environment and no longer a deterrent for folks with a cat allergy.
