Elizabeth's Bookstore is a square section, maybe 10' x 10', with 3 walls displaying spaced-out, front-facing books, a digital kiosk for checkout, and a QR Code for their digital store. Here's what Elizabeth's Bookstore does NOT have: - Any human people working there (booksellers? staff? nope!) - Chairs, sofas, or anyplace to comfortably sit and read a book - Bookshelves. Literally! There were displays, but no actual bookshelves. Hope you like one of the 20 preselected books? - Any sound cancellers or any other means of cultivating a non-industrial, bookshop-like atmosphere I don't really want to leave a 1 star review, because it is genuinely independent. And, it's associated with a writing center and hosted events in 647 Coffee (different location), which seem pretty cool! But I felt like I had to write something to give others a heads up. If you're looking for a great indie bookstore in Akron, unfortunately, this isn't it. Really not a place to peruse a selection of books, buy one, and hunker down with a coffee to read. Nor is it really possible to host a writing group or book club here. I hope it someday grows enough to move into a location that allows bookshelves and staff. Located on State Road, right across from Rex's Erection, JC's is a staple in the local comic and anime scene and truly a cornerstone of the community. With more than three decades in the business, John has his shop dialed in perfectly. As soon as you walk in, you're greeted by a great selection of action figures and collectible card games like Magic: The Gathering and Pokémon. Past that, there are shelves of graphic novels, an impressive showcase of statues, and lining the walls is a treasure trove of vintage toys--from Star Wars to G.I. Joe to Transformers. Behind the counter, you'll find even more gems, like rare statues (I'm a big fan of the Killing Joke Joker piece) and vintage collectibles. JC also carries a massive selection of back issues and, of course, all the latest comic book releases every Wednesday.
