I don't think you understand how much I LOVE finding new-to-me bookstores. I was in the area for a market and I wondered around the area. My subconscious knew and it led me to this place. It's not a terribly large bookstore but it has all of the basic categories you'd expect and I'd say they're pretty well-stocked in those categories. From what I saw there weren't really secondhand books but so it goes. Did I come out with books? Of course I did. read more

Very cute and quaint bookshop in the middle of Hudson's shopping district. We love stopping by every time we are in the area, it's located next to the Open Door cafe where you can take your book you just bought to read! Or vice versa, take your coffee you just bought and browse books lol. It's inside on old house that's nice and cozy. It can be a bit crowded in holiday seasons due to lack of space. I do want to mention that this book shop and the whole downtown reminds me of Gilmore Girls in the winter time! read more

Well, it's quaint. It's independent. It smells like books. They have lots of fun non-book stuff like artsy greeting cards and journals. But I was surprised how not interesting the books were. Very few good classics. They're really focusing on the super recently published, new writers that you see on that BookPage publication. read more

The Learned Owl is my longtime favorite bookstore in Northeast Ohio. It's the charming, creaky-floored bookstore where they decorate seasonally and the staff still give personalized recommendations on little rack cards across neat, jam-packed shelves. I subscribe to their newsletter and learned they weren't re-opening for business as usual during COVID, which is fine with me as I'm not comfortable fully. They are offering a curbside pick-up service to retrieve orders from their alternative door with contactless pick-up. My usual preference is to visit here and browse with typically nothing in mind, but this time I tried the online ordering. The search box on their website is super easy and I can always count on The Learned Owl to have poetry books and other more off-the-beaten-path picks I'm interested in. I appreciated the timely communications via email when my order was placed and later when it was ready for pick-up. This is a great bookstore to patronize during COVID-19. Learned Owl Book Shop - Great curbside pickup during COVID. - Bookstores Near Me - Hudson, Ohio

I'm always a fan of a quirky local bookstore and I've received many gifts from this shop over the years, thanks to my aunt who lives nearby. I'm really glad that I was able to visit on my recent trip. The store is deceptive on the outside since it looks petite, but it's secretly 3 full floors of bibliogoodness. The selection was good and well thought out. There were lots of local books and a book signing was just finishing when I was there. The staff was really helpful but not pushy. And if you shop there regularly, you can earn loyalty points from the store. Since I was just visiting, I made sure to put my purchases to my aunt's account. I wish I would have had more time to really delve into their stock read more

Although small and compact, this place is mighty. Great selection of books and various items, wonderful service and charming atmosphere. The kind of place that reminds you how beautiful and important it is to shop local. Ordering books is quick & easy, even around the busy holidays (although I love to see that they're busy- it means more business!). The store is excellently decorated with unique and fun displays for various themes or books they're showcasing. read more

Fun store in downtown Hudson, wide array and selection of books and very friendly and informative staff. They graciously have taken in my new children's picture book for sale, "Do Kangaroos Have Eyebrows?" read more

Ok, I'm biased. I work here. But it is a wonderful place! Comfy & crowded with books, a veritable warren of good stuff to read. There's an 2nd floor and a basement level too (something I had not figured out until I became an employee, so I pass it along to you now -- and yes, you are allowed to go both upstairs & down). Folks here (staff & patrons alike) really care about books and will tell you just what they think about them. Looking for a last-minute gift for Uncle Fred who likes fly fishing & sci-fi? You will find The Perfect Thing right here. We can be a bit over-friendly, so tell us to bug off if you want some quiet time - we're not trying to keep tabs on you, just want to make sure you're finding what you need in the convoluted recesses of the shop. Enjoy! read more

From the creaky wooden floors to the hinged screen door, the antique charm and literacy-rich environment, this local treasure of an independent bookstore is worth driving hundreds of miles to visit! The owner Kate and her staff always assure a customer-centered experience! If they don't have it, they will order it, wrap it, ship it! They work hard to support local talent--authors and illustrators. New to town? Newly retired? They have not one, not two, but several book clubs of all genres which you can join! Please don't allow Amazon to have all your business! Remember, when you patronize your local independent businesses, you invest in your community! You'll feel better and you will preserve treasures like The Learned Owl for generations to come! read more

In the heart of Hudson, this bookstore fits in perfectly with the rest of the square. The maze like setup made me feel a bit like Alice falling down the rabbit hole. So, in a word, magical! There is a wide variety of books available as well as a little gift section full of fun things to tempt you. I appreciated the size of the travel section, up the stairs and around the bend, as well as the fact I had to travel through most of the store to get to it. I felt like I struck gold! While a bit pricier than my usual haunts, this isn't a used book store so that does play into it. I'm happy to pay a few extra dollars to support a locally owned book store that adds so much value to the community. read more

So freaking cute! The staff working there were so friendly and helpful. I was killing some time before a meeting and just stopped in. I wasn't planning to buy anything and couldn't resist after how wonderful the staff were! I adore local book stores and very much recommend this small business. I'll be going back next time I'm in Hudson, OH! read more

The Learnéd Owl is a great little local business, the service is friendly & inviting and the atmosphere has a quaint homey feel. The selection of books is great, but since their store is so small they are slightly limited. Even still, I love to go here and scan through books for hours! My one suggestion is that they have more places to sit upstairs and in the children's section. read more

Really cozy bookstore with a nice "home" setting. Nice to shop in compared to big box bookstores. The kids section is pretty good, my nephews found a nice St. Patrick'sDay bedtime book. Explore the whole store when you're there, you will find something interesting. Staff is friendly. read more

How have I never been here? I love bookstores and quaint little shops. This store is adorable and has a large selection of books. Cute kids room as well. Keep bookstores alive!! That's my motto. :) but really, this is a great local store and there are not a lot of stores in Hudson that sell books! This is a fun little book nook. Nicely operated. read more

Enchanting store! Remember how you tried to find a book in the Megastore and they could not help you? If the Learned Owl does not have it, they will place an order for you. They are so friendly and the store is so unique. Part of Hudson's true charm. read more

The Learned Owl is heaven for us bibliophiles! Once you open the screen door and step foot onto the creaky floors of this delightful bookstore in the historic district of Hudson, Ohio, you will be instantly reminded why e-readers will never replace the experience of holding in your hand a marvelous new page-turner. Liz and her staff provide the good old-fashioned personal kind of customer service. I moved back to Ohio from Florida in part because I missed this bookstore! read more

Love this store! Staff is friendly and helpful. Good selection and a nice place to wander around and browse.

Quaint. No public restroom--at least that's what she told a little African American girl whom she overheard telling her mother that she needed to use the restroom. No one asked the store personnel if the girl could use the restroom, but she offered the restroom in the restaurant next door. read more

There's nothing like a visit to the Learned Owl Book Shop. Visiting a large bookstore in a strip mall simply doesn't compare to the experience of spending time in a quaint little shop like this one. They have a great selection of books, puzzles, and greeting cards, and they've helped bring some great authors to town for lectures and book signings. read more
