Well, it's quaint. It's independent. It smells like books. They have lots of fun non-book stuff like artsy greeting cards and journals. But I was surprised how not interesting the books were. Very few good classics. They're really focusing on the super recently published, new writers that you see on that BookPage publication.

Great curbside pickup during COVID.

The Learned Owl is my longtime favorite bookstore in Northeast Ohio. It's the charming, creaky-floored bookstore where they decorate seasonally and the staff still give personalized recommendations on little rack cards across neat, jam-packed shelves. I subscribe to their newsletter and learned they weren't re-opening for business as usual during COVID, which is fine with me as I'm not comfortable fully. They are offering a curbside pick-up service to retrieve orders from their alternative door with contactless pick-up. My usual preference is to visit here and browse with typically nothing in mind, but this time I tried the online ordering. The search box on their website is super easy and I can always count on The Learned Owl to have poetry books and other more off-the-beaten-path picks I'm interested in. I appreciated the timely communications via email when my order was placed and later when it was ready for pick-up. This is a great bookstore to patronize during COVID-19. Support local, read local!

From the creaky wooden floors to the hinged screen door, the antique charm and literacy-rich environment, this local treasure of an independent bookstore is worth driving hundreds of miles to visit! The owner Kate and her staff always assure a customer-centered experience! If they don't have it, they will order it, wrap it, ship it! They work hard to support local talent--authors and illustrators. New to town? Newly retired? They have not one, not two, but several book clubs of all genres which you can join! Please don't allow Amazon to have all your business! Remember, when you patronize your local independent businesses, you invest in your community! You'll feel better and you will preserve treasures like The Learned Owl for generations to come!

Ok, I'm biased. I work here. But it is a wonderful place! Comfy & crowded with books, a veritable warren of good stuff to read. There's an 2nd floor and a basement level too (something I had not figured out until I became an employee, so I pass it along to you now -- and yes, you are allowed to go both upstairs & down). Folks here (staff & patrons alike) really care about books and will tell you just what they think about them. Looking for a last-minute gift for Uncle Fred who likes fly fishing & sci-fi? You will find The Perfect Thing right here. We can be a bit over-friendly, so tell us to bug off if you want some quiet time - we're not trying to keep tabs on you, just want to make sure you're finding what you need in the convoluted recesses of the shop. Enjoy!

Visiting a large bookstore in a strip mall simply doesn't compare to the experience of spending time in a quaint little shop like this one.

Not a fan of their hours but so happy to have finally made it here! This place definitely qualifies…read moreas a hidden gem or a less-traveled CLE shop. I could easily spend hours here, and did, last Sunday! What gorgeous decor, layout, vibes and selection they have! Workers were really friendly as well. The prices of books were high though--no discount at all for new books. Fine to support local but this is why the library will still always be my favorite. What I was confused about is how the books are organized because it is not by author nor by used/new. I'm pretty sure new books were placed right next to pre-owned ones on the same shelf... I did enjoy all the gift and merchandise displays. They were all set up in a way that looked irresistible to buy! My BF bought this photography coffee table book he was really excited about and I got a children's novel illustrated by Jon Klassen (big fans!).

The people working there were very knowledgeable and friendly. The book collection alone is incredible. There is multiple room rooms and the sanctuary holds very old and important books and is definitely interesting to look around in. They also have a cute gift shop that has very cool gifts and handmade items as well. Totally a great find if you are looking for something fun to do, or just looking for a few books.

Love that there is a hole-in-the-wall style book store in little ol' Wooster. It's just one of many…read moreshops that really "make" this little town. This shop has two floors packed to the brim with about any kind of book imaginable. An entire children's section, foreign language books, old collectors books, and more. If you wanted to put together a bookshelf full of classics that actually look like classics in worn, brown leather binding you could definitely get your start here. There is every section you expect from a book store. An extensive collection of fiction starting at the front of the store, with classics and nonfiction in the back and upstairs. The children's section is also upstairs. There are a few places where you can sit and read. This being a primarily used book store, you can sell and trade too. Highest dollar is given for nonfiction, with hardbacks being at the top of that list. You can sell your books outright with no obligation to use the money as credit only. However, like with most trade-in places, you will typically get more value if you apply it in credit than if you take it in cash. Absolutely worth a visit, even if you're just looking to browse the day away in town.
