I was on business trip in Stockton, but staying with my father in the Sacramento area. My parents have 2 old brass table lamps for over 40 years and both switch's had eventually worn out. I found Lofings Lighting so I called them and asked if they fixed the switch housing on table lamps. An employee, unknown name, answered the phone and said they would place new switches and wiring on the table lamps at an estimated cost of $152. I agreed to the price and brought the lamps in on Monday (5-20) and I stopped by to make a payment on the lamps.( 5-24) Employee, Keith Young, told me they customarily don't accept prepayment because the price will change after repairs and labor cost. A female employee , unknown name, mentioned the lamps might be ready for pick up. She went to the back of the store and returned shortly with my father's brass lamps . The total price for 2 lamps was $115. I was impressed with the good quality replacement switch , new cord and turn around time in completed work. My father was with me and he was pleasantly surprised of the turn around time job done and total cost . I highly recommend Lofings lighting for their quality repair, good customer service and time job completed. I'm willing to drive to their business from Elk Grove. It's worth the drive. read more

Lofings might be the only business left that repairs lamps in the Sacramento area. Recently, they have beautifully repaired three vintage brass Stiffel table lamps for me. They completely refitted the sockets/wiring, replaced the felt on the bottom and put new cords on them. As a bonus, they asked if the cord length was working, was a longer cord needed? Who knew that was even an option? Each one was around $75.00 to repair. It took about a week to get them done. When finished, I got a text alerting me that they were ready. The staff was very knowledgeable, helpful and pleasant. There is one more lamp left, a Stiffel floor lamp with a broken glass bowl. They told me to bring it in, if they can't get a replacement, they can look for something that will work. As an option, they asked if there was a photograph of the lamp. Clearly, their expertise allows them to provide great service too. While I was waiting, several other customers were being helped. The staff was talking to them, asking questions and paging through huge binders of lamps to determine what might be necessary. Once my lamps were home, it was so wonderful to put bulbs in them and turn them on! Being able to use them without negotiating their quirks and aging parts was so much easier. The repairs had been on my list forever, getting it done so easily made me happy in so many ways! read more

I'm taking this time to give a shout to the wonderful team at Lofings Lighting. Recently I took a floor lamp to them for repair, though I didn't buy it from them, and I've had it for over 10 years. The lamp was damaged by movers with a stem broken in half. While it was not a commonly sold brand, they took the time to get a replacement part and charged a fair price repair and reassemble. I had been searching hi and lo for a sparkly modern gold chandelier for my white and gold formal living room. I walked in to this store and loved the chrome n silver crystal chandeliers on display in the front of the store but I needed one with gold in it. After I showed Max my inspiration piece that only came in chrome finish he pulled out a huge binder and was able to find a piece that matched the look I was going for. What impressed me was the product knowledge he had. It's hard to pick a chandelier from a picture but I was able to place the order with Max's help. Can't wait to receive it and have it installed. Stewart was awesome! I brought in a connected line of crystals from a crystal ceiling light. I had dropped a full line of them while cleaning and broke several. There were 6 different kinds of crystal shapes and 4 different types of gold colored connectors that needed to be replaced. I was told it would take 2 weeks to be delivered and it pretty much was. Today my hubby picked up the box with all of the ordered pieces. I was nervous to look inside, but when I did I discovered they are all a perfect match! However, I think what sets them apart is their customer service - our first time visiting the store and we were helped by a couple of people - they are very knowledgeable about their products - this is what sets them apart from buying from Amazon. They always do everything they can to help me out and generally I have left with what I came for. The staff seems quite knowledgeable and has been able to help come up with solution for some pretty tough problems over the years. Today was no exception. Great selection. Awful customer service. Stuart should NOT under any circumstances be allowed to have direct contact with customers - over the phone or in person. His demeanor is condescending and downright nasty. I think he needs to be reminded that the reason why he is employed is because customers come in to purchase products from Lofings. The most recent encounter with Stuart occured last week when I brought in a broken part that needed replacement. He is quite dismissive in his manner of speaking, not allowing you, the customer to explain your needs. I am not a confrontational person by nature, but he put me on the defensive. I needed to get some more information about part numbers before he could assist me further and asked that he keep the part (so that it could save me another trip to their store) and he refused because he said "they might lose it". I was extremely annoyed by his behavior up to this point and decided just to bypass him as I asked another employee to please hold onto the part until I could get them more information. Joan was more than happy to hold onto the part for me, took down my information and told me she would take care of it. Joan has had to come in and save the day for Stuart before. To my suprise Stuart's behavior now diminished into downright childish behavior where he loudly and sarcastically replied "Oh, wow!' to my request for Joan to further assist me. I continued to ignore him and he repeated no less than 5 times "Oh, wow!' as he slowly walked away from the counter and back to his desk. Joan winked at me and again repeated that she would "take care of it for me" as I stood there wide eyed with disbelief at Stuarts antics. I walked away from the counter and one last time Stuart yelled "Oh, wow!" I couldn't ignore him any further and turned around and said "Stuart. I don't need to hear another comment from you, your behavior is beyond unprofessional." He replied "I wasn't even talking to you, I was talking to Joan." I just turned around, shook my head and muttered "unbelievable' as I walked out the door. Lofings, After 3 generations of doing business with your company I and my husband can and will no longer patronize your store. Let us know when Stuart is no longer employed and we'll be happy to come back. read more

I had long admired the gleaming lights in the windows at Lofings as I went about after dark on J Street but never ventured inside. One night, before Christmas, I saw the perfect gift for a musician friend of mine in the Lofing's window. I mean to tell you, I stopped dead in my tracks when I spotted this softly glowing, amber colored guitar lamp. It looks a lot prettier than I am describing it. We began our remodel of our kitchen and family room (aka Great Room) without a real lighting plan (shame on us) and suddenly decision time was upon us. We had received multiple conflicting opinions about the requirements of Title 24, California's lighting/energy code that looked like our choices were very limited. My first time with Lofings; I just moved from Southern California. I have an old chandelier and an old wall sconce (at least 35 years old), family items of mostly sentimental value, that needed to be overhauled before they could be installed in the house I just bought. Lofings provided new wiring including a ground wire, new sockets with new sleeves, new chain, and a new canopy. Joan was patient in explaining things and answering my questions; the staff made good aesthetic choices in matching new parts to old frameworks; at pickup time a staff member carried the chandelier to my car for me; I received a detailed accounting of the work and the cost items. In appearance, atmosphere, and fact the store combines attractive displays with professional workshop competence. The repair did take a few weeks, but I was in no hurry and hadn't asked for a specific schedule. If I have special lighting needs again, I will try Lofings first. read more
