For people visiting Morro Bay for the 1st time from the bigger areas, like LA or the valleys, know…read morethat this store is not only a grocery store with a deli, a Starbucks, a liquor store, a flower shop but also a sundry stop. Like, I raced in for some Cranberry caps a bit back. No separate stop at CVS or Rite-Aid is usually required. It's actually one of my favorite grocery stores pretty much any where. Always clean, their produce is generally excellent, an overall great selection and their service is good.

I'll drive to Ralph's in Los Osos, or speak to the happy smiling employees, at Spencer's. Both times, the cashier did not scan in the discounts. When I pointed it out to her, she looked at me as if I had punched and berated her. a sad sneer,no eye contact, and malevolent body language. it was as if it was my fault! Dang, where do they find these people? I checked my receipt, there was another $3 miss. I took it to the extremely sad and volatile no eye contact ex use for a human being allegedly, in charge. a big sigh, I deserved it, she had been standing there, looking into space. How dare I! I don't hold grudges, but shame on me.....yep, missed every single sale item. My partner took it up to the managerial monstrosity, and she said it wasn't her job to correct the cashier Anyone remember the great Fawlty Towers comedy series? Id get angry with these people, but....its comical. oh, spoke to several people who also cowered for the audacity of pointing out errors, anyhow, you can read it all on Next Door. And yet everyone else in town is so friendly!

Everyone smiles and anything you are looking for most of the staff can lead you right to it or will find someone who can. This speaks greatly to their culture. I'm assuming that the administrative team set up an expectation of service excellence and will have nothing less. I don't know if the are rewarded with better pay or conditions than any other grocery employee, however the genuinely look as if they love their job. Now to the less that great side of things, their selection leaves one wanting. They have just the basic produce, onions, carrots, potatoes, and the like. Their organic selection leaves a lot to be desired as well. Their prices would make you think that they are very proud of their product. They truly are the only game in town, which is why they can command a bit more along with their amazing staff. They are probably a solid 3, but get a 4 for their dedication to customer service.

I found myself in Coalinga, CA, and in search of a grocery store. We happen upon this Save Mart…read more As we walked into the grocery store, we didn't see any shopping carts. There were none by the front door, neither indoor nor outdoor. We asked a staff person and they said they're next to the front door. Nope. We even left the store to go back to the parking lot to try to find one. None in sight. But we still need groceries so back into the shop we went. I walked about the majority of the shop since my shopping list items ran the gamut of deli items, produce, drinks, snacks, baked items and toiletries. So as I walked about, I took notice of the number of customers with and without carts; there were not a particularly significant number of folks with carts. So what's up with the shopping cart shortage?! Possible bulk cart thievery? Who knows. But I do know it sure made it difficult to buy a multipack of bottled water and other items. The store was clean and organized. But by golly they need to get more shopping carts.
