Ragged Point Inn Convenience Store was such a convenient and charming stop during our trip. We were looking for something quick and simple to eat and didn't end up going to the restaurant since the menu felt a bit too extensive for what we wanted. This store came in so handy. It was a hot day, so we grabbed some cold drinks and light snacks, which were perfect. The space itself is really beautiful and full of character, it feels like more than just a typical convenience store. They also had a great collection of marmalade jams, which we were told are locally made, such a cute and unique touch. Overall, a very convenient stop with personality and thoughtful items. Definitely worth checking out if you're passing through! read more

Summer 2025 As a city person, to see gas more than $2 than SF/Bay Area is crazy. But I'm trying to be understanding too, this is the only gas station I've seen so far. When I go to San Francisco, I try to drive the Pacific Coast Highway when I have the time so I can avoid Interstate 5 or the more uninspired stretches of Highway 101. Ragged Point is a convenient break on the winding sections of the Pacific Coast Highway. I always stop to get a latte or cappuccino and that's all my wallet allows before it bites me and quickly retreats back into my pocket. The reason is that the gas pumps here charge some of the highest prices in California. The cost per gallon is always a blistering $1.00 or more per gallon than what you would pay anywhere on the coast. You paid $3.29 at your usual gas station? Well, then you'll pay at least $4.29 here if you're lucky. [Prepare before you venture on PCH. If you're driving south from San Francisco, fill up your gas tank at Highway 1 and Rio Road in Carmel. It's the last real gas station until you reach San Luis Obispo. If you're driving north from LA, fill up your tank in Buellton, Santa Maria or San Luis Obispo.] Ragged Point offers great views so get some coffee and walk to the shore. AWESOME place for a REST STOP! No, I did not eat at the restaurant or buy anything from the convenience store or snack shop which serves burgers, fries, etc. even though I was tempted to buy a latte from their adjacent cafe. There are clean public restrooms, an outdoor patio w/tables to eat at, a beautiful garden to walk around, and a nature trail in the back. Unfortunately, the mist was thick that morning so we couldn't see the great coastal view that we figured we would see but heard the waves crash beneath us. Plus, the nature trail was closed. Unfortunately, this is the only stop after Cambria on the long trip up the beautiful Pacific Coast Highway. First off, they gouge you on the price of gas, ($2.50 a gallon more than the going price at the time). And the "service," (I use that term loosely) SUCKS. OK, I could accept the price gouging on the gas, this being the gateway to one of the most traveled tourist destinations in the world. But what really floored me was the RUDE douchbag behind the counter. Not the older gentleman, (who also had a bit of a surly attitude but was tolerable) but the younger one with glasses. This guy has a problem and I would advise to avoid interacting with him if you are forced to stop at this place. Better yet, gas up and get your supplies in Cambria or San Simeon before you make the climb up the coast. AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS. You'll be glad you did! read more

It's a gorgeous location, but that's it. Unfortunately the place has literally gone down hill from even just a year ago. The rooms are not well kept and the restaurant is now gross. Food was old and not fresh at all. The place was dirt and if you look tables dirty as well as the containers on the tables. It grossed me out and made me wonder how the kitchen is kept. We use to really enjoy going up and having dinner or lunch and staying the night.... but now I wouldn't consider it. And I am seriously debating calling health department on them it was that bad. read more

I really do love this place because the views are spectacular but their customer service really is the worst... we stopped for gas at the convenience store and was told to leave our card until after the gas was pumped. Well, we pumped the gas but forgot the card. We called that same day to ask if they still had it but there was no answer. Called the next morning and finally spoke to a young girl. She took our names and said she would call us back. 6 hrs later no call so I called back. They answered and again explained the situation. She put me on hold for over 12 min. How long does it take to check? Well. ... we had already reported the card missing and last we checked nobody used the card since we bought the gas. Just the principle of at least getting back to your customer. I do want to add though... the store clerk was very friendly. Need better phone communication especially when it comes to your customers $$ What have I learned??? Don't leave your card at Ragged point.. you will not get any response from them plus they probably really don't much care. read more

The California coastline is beautiful and breathtaking as the sun sets. Driving up the 1 freeway is very impressive but it is also scary when you are unable to see basic necessities for over 70 miles on a winding road. There was no phone reception, no internet connection and had no other options but to drive onward and hope that there is rescue ahead when I was down to 3 bars of gas at dusk. Luckily at the clearing of the side of the cliffs, this convenient store was available for gas and snacks. Only down side is it was almost $6.00 per gallon. I guess if you are the only gas station for almost 100 miles, you can set any price. Necessity is very expensive in the middle of nowhere. read more

Quick stop for gas, restroom, and stretching. Friendly counter service inside the shop. Restrooms are clean and have several stalls. Views over the edge are beautiful. Parking lot is evenly paved. Seating areas inside and out are clean, quiet, open, and pleasant. We rode in for gas and didn't stay long, but if we're coming by another time with more hours to spare, I'd like to take some time and snap some photos and try the menu. Yes, the gas is expensive but hell, where else are you going to stop? Shut up and pay and enjoy the road, the ride, and the view. read more

There is an awesome view of the ocean behind the store. Just follow the trail to see for yourself. After admiring the view and taking photos, then head on over to the store. Of course, they are more expensive than your average convenience store, but the restrooms are fine. 5 stars for the view. 3 stars for the convenience store. Averaged it out to 4 stars. This is a nice stop to make before continuing the trip up North to Big Sur or heading down South from Big Sur. So stop by, stretch your legs, check out the view, and buy something. read more

This is a review for Ragged Point the stop. Located along Highway 1 in Big Sur this is a welcome stop for a bathroom break and some legs stretching. The area is beautifully landscaped and is a joy to roam about. If you walk behind the restrooms you will come across a gorgeous view of the coast and a perfect opportunity for a photo op. There are some tall purple flowers that attract monarch butterflies by the dozen, again, great photo opp. I always look forward to stopping at Ragged Point whenever I drive on Highway 1. read more

Ragged Point Inn is a little oasis for travelers driving along PCH and need a stop. I felt like a Coke so went into the small convenience store... it wasn't a 7-Eleven, but hey, captive audiences can't complain. I stopped off at this store while backpacking and photographing the Big Sur coast. This was one of the highlights of my day. The grounds are a photographer's paradise. Lots of Monarch butterflies and hummingbirds around the shrubbery and flowers and a nice view of the coast. The store itself was great. I couldn't believe all the military insignia, patches and pins they had for sale..and cheap! If you're into military, you will love this store. I found the Spearhead pin from my grandfather's WW2 unit. This was a tank battalion that he fought and died with in WW2 and it made my day to come across it by accident in my travels. Picked up a couple of "Ragged Point" T-shirts for my sons as well. The cashier was so friendly and helpful. In between taking customers, he kept going in back to check for a medium size for my son. I knew he was super busy, but he really wanted to help me find the right size, even though he knew I was still buying a large for him anyway. Really nice guy and very helpful. I had already heard about the high gas prices on the Big Sur, so I got gas in Cambria. I'm not knocking the price people charge in Big Sur, after all these truckers have to drive into Big Sur to deliver it, that takes time and money. Its good to know the gas is there if you need it, but some good planning beforehand will save you a few bucks. I'll definitely be back next time I hit the Big Sur area.
