Unfortunately, Volvo (like many European cars) has created an overly complicated system of acquiring a duplicate key. For 3 reasons: 1 there is no Volvo dealership on the Big Island, 2 keys are extremely expensive, and 3 they are complicated to duplicate. I called a few good locksmiths on the Big Island and both veered away from the problem explaining to me the complications of owning a Volvo. I finally ventured into a well-established Locksmith as my last resort and their guidance led me to contact ALI'I LOCK and KEY. I was told if anyone on this island would consider my request it would be Mr. DuFour. Having been prewarned about my Volvo conundrum, I called Mr. DuFour explaining thoroughly my situation and that I would accept my losses if it didn't work. Mr. DuFour took the challenge full-on and within an hour, he had created a duplicate "dummy" key and further educated me on the next steps in order to program a couple of new keys-fobs. The fact that I have a "dummy" key to unlock the car in case I locked myself out is priceless. The fact that I have to still deal with Volvo, well that's another story. In the meantime, if you are looking for someone who would consider a "challenge" that is worth every "lucky" penny, well it's worth every cent and in the long run, it makes common sense too.
