I'm genuinely confused about the other reviewer. You come to the Adirondacks to enjoy nature, nowhere in the Adirondacks is there a beach resort, and that's for a obvious reason, this is not the ocean! We, on the other hand, had a great time during our stay!
Locke Harbor is a great place to take a nice cool swim and lay your head after a day of hiking one of the many hikes in the area (Chimney Mt is a fun short hike for the family) or spending the day canoeing or kayaking on the beautiful lakes. You can also spend the day rafting down the Hudson River or if you're lucky enough, get a spot on that new rail car bicycle tour, but book ahead!
If being a home body is more your thing, you can grab one of the boats and spend the day fishing on the lake. We didn't pack our fishing gear but our cabin had photos of previous cabin goers and their nice catches. There's also an old trail/ path that goes back past the peninsula that makes for a nice nature walk.
We loved spending our early mornings on the porch of the cabin listening to the Loon calls while drinking our coffee! We wish we had packed binoculars to get a closer look. There are also a family of Osprey nesting in the causeway that if you're lucky enough, you can watch them swooping down and pulling fish from the lake.
For the technology driven, we had a few spots of Verizon and AT&T here and there, enough to load the voicemails and emails, but we came to the Adirondacks to disconnect anyways. If you really need service, we found driving through Speculator we had strong service and in North Creek we had very strong service (And North Creek has a bistro wine bar, bonus!). Both are about 20 minutes away.
Bottom line, we loved our stay and would recommend it to any of our friends who want to disconnect and decompress. We found plenty of activities to do and spent the rest of the time just relaxing and enjoying the scenery.
Oh, almost forgot! We also ran into the property manager (forgot his name, sorry!) who said if we needed anything we could call him and he would come help us out, his phone number was also posted in the cabin. We didn't find a need to call but it was nice to know if we needed something there was someone there for us. read more
