I often bid out electrical jobs from exterior lighting to tenant improvements- especially in this economy, to make sure I'm not getting gouged. This company almost always comes in at the lowest rate, with the shortest lead time on getting things done. There have even been a few times where they've even found less expensive ways to fix problems and save us money. I think they are able to undercut other larger firms because are a small operation without a ton of overhead. I'm a manager, not contractor, so I have to rely on these types of contractors to explain to me in layman's terms what's going on so I can make a good decision for the property owner. Jeff and his guys are always willing to take the time to make sure we understand what they found during their investigation and what needs to be done to make things right. It's vital that any vendor I send onto a property exhibits respect and courtesy to my tenants, and I have gotten nothing but positive feedback after sending these guys out to take care of things. That's rare, since most tenants have at least something to whine about when work needs to be performed in or around their space.

I'd think a handyman can replace a torn window screen. We had the parts to fix our tub faucet and were already told it was an easy fix, our faucet just was leaking water because it's stopper had rusted. He took one look at it and said "This is a nightmare. You need a plumber." The company website says they do plumbing. He also complained about how he's "over it" because our condo was too hard to get to. There's guest parking and it's off of a Main Street in La Jolla so I don't know how much more convenient we could make our place. He was clearly unqualified and wasted my Saturday morning with his unwillingness and poor attitude.

First time, I didn't write a review, I should have, it was a positive experience and I need to be better about that. I called on a Saturday morning when our door wouldn't go down at all leaving out stuff completely exposed. They were sympathetic, saying they would make it out the same day. It was obvious we needed a new door, the question was did we also need a new motor. They could have easily lied, we'd have believed them if they said we needed both, but they were very honest and adjusted the motor the suggested we let our motor live out it's life, which should be at least 2 more years. We bought and installed the door for a reasonable price. Yesterday I called called when I had challenges with the going down without having to hold the button, it was obvious to me that it wasn't the actual door. Today Brian came out shared it was simply bad luck that the wires to one of the sensors was old and broke/separated. He didn't suggest rewiring, he fixed the wires with some tools and electrical tape so no rewiring needed. I can't speak for others who may have had a different experience but I'm in a service industry, know what quality service is, and I'm also pretty high maintenance as a person. I've found my best contractors through reviews, and conversely, I've realized too late that the ones I've had issues with usually have a history of bad feedback--and Ace Garage Door Company / Brian is no exception. Brian originally installed my garage door. Recently, after some home construction, the door needed a simple realignment. I called him out expecting an estimate first. Instead of providing a clear quote, he went ahead and did the work without my prior approval. The entire job took him about 15 minutes, and he then slapped me with an unreasonably high $175 invoice. When I asked for a reduction, he claimed he "quoted it last time" (which I have absolutely no record of) and insisted the work took him much longer. When I reached out to discuss the unfair charge, he was completely dismissive, sending me a laundry list of reasons why he charges so much--citing his personal rent, $2,000+ monthly gas bill, and taxes. He showed a total sense of entitlement, seemingly forgetting that consumers also have bills to pay. I told him that if he couldn't be reasonable with his pricing, he would lose both my positive review and my return business. He couldn't have cared less. To make matters worse, after I paid him via Venmo, he sent me a revised invoice adding an extra $5.33 just to force me to cover his 2.99% Venmo seller fees. On top of the price gouging, he brought a terrible attitude to my property. On his invoice, he actually apologized for being "crabby," justifying his bad attitude by explaining he was "recently almost sued" because of a different job. To top it all off, he is misleading about his business history. He claims it "took him 35 years to get this good," implying decades of business experience, but public records show his business has only existed since 2006. There are plenty of skilled, honest garage door contractors out there who charge reasonable prices while maintaining a professional customer experience. Avoid this business and save yourself the headache.

My search for a good & fair priced handyman started in September. My mom rents out her condo in San…read moreMarcos and I live nearby so I help manage it. So whenever there's a problem (ie broken AC, leaks, anything broken) I have to find a solution to fix it. Well, problems started happening in September. My tenant texted me saying there were water bubbles forming in the ceiling, they were on the 3RD floor, and eventually traveled to the 2nd floor (it's a 3 story townhouse). Turns out, the AC line was clogged and the condensation was not draining properly causing it to flood the attic. At this point, I called an emergency plumber to fix it. That plumber came in, put 4 holes in the ceiling drywall, vacuumed the water out, and advised to let it all dry out before drywall can be patched up. After I paid the plumber, the plumber never followed back up with fixing the drywall. So the 4 holes in the ceiling drywall stayed like that till yesterday December 16, 2015.... 3 months. I had plans for my father-in-law to patch it, but he broke his hand so those plans fell through. Then I went to Home Depot in San Marcos one day looking at kitchen appliances and I asked them if they had handymen I could hire and that is how I found Sergio's Construction. Home Depot said that the handyman will contact me, and within 30 minutes, Sergio called. I went an unconventional way of getting an estimate but Sergio was still able to give me a quote. I had pictures of the drywall holes that needed to be fixed, I sent him pictures of it and he came back with a quote of around $1k. I think this was end of October beginning of November. Well, I kept putting fixing it off, then I called and sent another company to give me a quote (they quoted me $2k!!), then I contemplated some more, and finally came around and gave Sergio the ok to do work. I did drag my feet a lot to fix the drywall, but that's a lot of money for me! Sergio was professional. He emailed me a breakdown of the cost of everything, plus he said he could install 2 bathroom vanity lights for me as well. He said he could finish it all in a day as well and he did! I went by yesterday when they were painting the drywall, and everything looked great! I was really impressed with how fast he was and the tenants were happy with the results as well. I will definitely be using him again for any future projects (which is probably very soon, since I need an oven installed and he said they do that as well).
