Excellent experience at this local cidery!…read more The male owner (??) was soft-spoken, patient, and basically had the perfect flight for our group of 4. It was like he read our minds! He had 9 ciders on tap and they ranged from the standard cidery - just apple - to fruity blends. They also varied from dry to sweeter. The 9 pours worked out to $27 and the glasses were a good size! There were some seating indoors, inside the renovated farmhouse. The majority of the seating is outdoors, on wood picnic tables. Be aware tho 'cause the tables underneath the trees were covered in ants, there was a whiff of cow manure, & cidery is perched overlooking a main road so there are cars whizzing by. So if you don't like these things, best to sit indoors. Highlights for me were "Mint To Be" (tasted like spa water), "Ginspired" (tasted like gin), & "Just Peachy". Like the other reviewers said, it's a drier style cider, but honestly, they were still enjoyable to me and I don't like super dry wines! After we finished our flight, I made a mental note of the ones that I wanted to purchase, but to my disappointment only Crimson Crisp was available in a can. The rest of them were only available in 750mL bottles for ~$20/bottle. So I just ended up buying 1 bottle as opposed to a few cans. I'd say that that was my only complaint. A great stop in Picton if you enjoy ciders!

But that didn't stop them from welcoming people to purchase their wonderful cider in a drive thru format after pre-ordering. There was a Google order form and Black Creek Cidery advertised on their Facebook page. I ordered two four-packs. One four pack of their Orchard Tea and Dry Orchard, and the other four-pack was mixed, including jalapeno, rat bastard and blackcurrent. Pick up was the first Saturday in December for a couple hours. Everything was well marked, and directions were displayed on the Google form, the confirmation that came to my email, as well as a post on Facebook. When I pulled in, I was immediately directed by several groups of people, all wearing masks. They were all exceptionally friendly and jovial. I pulled up to the main area, told them my last name and my four packs were put in my backseat. Bonus, each four pack came with a tote bag, separating the bottles and making sure they didn't bang around, as well as a bottle opener, because you'll need one to open this delicious cider. This is the only cider I'll drink and I'll tell you why. I have tried many ciders because I can't drink beer anymore, and this is now my drink of choice when I am in the presence of people drinking beer and when I don't want to drink hard liquor or hard seltzer. Black Creek's cider doesn't leave you with that weird phlegmy thing happening in your mouth and throat. They aren't too sweet either. They are absolutely perfect. I can't wait to try the other flavors I purchased. This is a family-run business and everyone who I encountered while safely going through the drive thru was delightful. You can get Black Creek Cider at local retailers throughout the year, but they only open up their home once a year. If you want to meet the hardworking people who make this fabulous cider, stop by on that day. If you happen to see this in your liquor store, pick up a bottle, or 6 or 12. You won't be disappointed and you'll be supporting a local, hardworking family business. You can tell everyone is passionate and excited about creating cider and meeting people who enjoy consuming it.

Elsewhere, there were a dozen tables outside where young and old were relaxing in the sun. Some kids were playing whiffle ball, while a tag football game was taking place elsewhere. I wish they had can jam or cornhole but I didn't see it. Inside, others were sitting at the many tables mingling about. A separate area had food for sale and it looked like donuts and other baked goods. I tried the "Jostaberry Jam" (hard cider, semi-sweet, gooseberry & currant) and "SLAM" (hard cider, semi-sweet, Salt, Lime, Apple, Margarita) and both were excellent. They had too many to try and drive home safely. I wish this place was located closer to my house as I would come here every week to try their new stuff. Sadly, it is a 4-hour drive.

I started off with a flight of ciders/beer which were all delicious (I paid $10 for 4 choices). We also all ordered food ranging from lobster Mac n cheese, a vegetarian pasta dish, Caesar salad and arancini. Everyone enjoyed their food and I especially enjoyed their vegetarian pasta dish with garlic butter. This was a special pasta night so the menu was different than usual. The service is different too because there's no servers, you order everything up at the bar but it's huge and the line moves really quick. All n all we had a good time and I look forward to coming back when it's warmer out too.

Their dry ciders are delicious, and they have converted me into a Mead lover! Who knew mead could be dry? Even their sweeter ciders and meads strike the right balance and are not stomach-churning sugar water like most of the other local cideries around. I often go with friends who are beer drinkers and wish they had a few more beer options for them, but their new cocktails have helped round out their offering. The taproom itself could use some updates, but overall, it is clean and inviting. What has left the biggest impression on me is how much the person behind the bar can contribute to the atmosphere. I have been lucky enough on my last few trips to have been waited on by Matt. They have always had good bartenders, but Matt is standout. He is engaging and funny and I constantly have to ask him "What song is this" whenever his playlist is on. Overall, I highly recommend trying Seed + Stone and don't be afraid to try the Mead, it's really quite good!
