When we first got to the winery, at the parking lot, we had a little fun encounter with a dog owner who was trying to get his new puppy out of the cars she was hiding underneath in. After we successfully got the puppy out (thank goodness!), us and the dog owner just had the most amazing time chatting inside the bar area of the winery. It was such a beautifully decorated speakeasy. Not only the wine collection was tasty, the hostess LA was super friendly + attentive. We felt like we were just hanging out with some long time friends there and hours gone by just like that! The tasting room attendant was cheerful and friendly, telling us about each of the wines and sharing some of her favourites. I had six samples in total: the 2013 Windward White Blend (which would be great with spicy food), the 2014 Pinot Gris, the "Friend's Rose" (which is the one I bought - it was bright pink, with lots of berry and some rhubarb, a definite afternoon sipper), the 2013 St. Laurent, the 2013 Gamay Noir and the 2012 Meritage. Tastings were, I believe, $1/sample but they were waived with purchase. This is an environmentally friendly, solar powered winery with a sustainable mindset! It's not as fancy as some of the ones you'll visit in the county, but I think it just adds to the charm.

The outdoor seating area with Muskoka chairs has this nice view of the vineyard. Interesting. They make a Port wine but they can't call it Port (we're not in Portugal) so it's called The Navy Left PxxT. Cute. In addition to the wine, we were also treated to some pizza, made in their wood-burning oven. It was pretty good! Our tutoured tasting was led by Woody, who was celebrating his birthday. We serenaded (tortured?) him. Ah, that's what an afternoon of wine sampling sounds like! We took advantage of some extra time to explore the property. We came in for a quick tasting of their wines and the hosts are clearly knowledgable about their wines. They offered our large party 4 different wines for tasting at $7 per person, and it comes with a nice discussion on the flavours to be expected and a bit of background about the wines and vineyard. The hosts were very friendly and accommodating, and it's easy to see why there was quite a bit of traffic at this vineyard. No reservations are necessary but it's best to check with them if you have a very large group. Note that they have very friendly Goldens roaming the fields a bit (they are the "Branch Managers"), definitely adds points to the already 5 star review!

My boyfriend and I took a trip to Prince Edward County and a wine tour was a high priority on our…read morelist. I checked out a few options, and PEC Wine Tours gave you the most bang for your buck. We did a half day tour that would bring you to at least 5 wineries. We were staying in Picton and were advised that there was no problem picking up and dropping off at our location. Cathie came to pick us up in a limo. She introduced herself and explained what the plan was for the day and gave us a map of the area. She was cheerful and friendly throughout our tour. We picked up 2 more couples and were brought to 5 wineries. Each one gave us a unique experience; there was a carbon neutral winery, one with an outdoor sculpture garden, another one with delicious cheese accompaniments and more. Since we were making good time, Cathie even took us to a 6th winery! We had a great time, and ended up buying a case of wine and some meats, cheeses and crackers from the different wineries. I would highly recommend this tour, and Cathie in particular.
